My daughter loves, loves, loves this movie. Sometimes she watches it three times ina row. It is entertaining to children with all its silliness, but it has a great message and it's higly educational. My daughter now knows the definition of mercy and compassion, and she's seen it practically applied in the example the movie gives. Obviously, it's up to my husband and myself to truly teach her these values, but this movie helps a lot. Plus, she learned a great Bible story in a truly entertaining and funny way.

My daughter and I really enjoyed watching this video. The animation is much richer than in previous Veggie Tales videos we've seen, with a 3-D quality and good sound track that made it especially enjoyable to watch. I also liked the fact that this animated movie follows the actual story of Jonah in the Bible fairly closely, with the exception of the fish slapping, which was bizarre and hilarious if not factual, and the Pirates who don't do anything, who added a lot of color, laughter, and life to the story even if they are two thousand years ahead of their time. This 5 star movie is great for the whole family.

With so many really bad CGI (computer graphics imagery) shows and movies out there, it's refreshing to see a great film made by people who obviously love what they're doing. The story of Jonah and the whale is told, or rather re-enacted by the pirates that don't do anything, who in 2008 came to theaters in a new Veggie movie. This story within a story is funny and fun, light hearted, told and animated with a light, sure touch. Even the opening credits are funny, but stay for the end and the "Song Under the Credits", a zany, light-hearted finale. The songs are as poetic as Godspell, and the film is far above the lesson- laden kids' shows that drag down so much of current kids' fare.
Some will dismiss this movie as religious moralizing, but by being up front about its message, normalizing it, as it were, the result it fresh and effervescent. Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly, mused Chesterton. These veggies are good for you, but they take themselves far more lightly than the bulk of kids shows. If laughter is the best medicine, the prescription is Veggie-Tales.

This was my first Veggiefilm I saw and the reason I'm a fan. You can really tell that it's been more work put into this film than the shorter ones. The characters are believeable, and the graphics is what to be expected. But the absoluitely best part is the songs.
A friend of mine, who's not a christian, heard the soundtrack to this movie and was impressed. The quality is to be compared with the big smashhits from Disney (and with me being a big fan of Disney mainly because of the music, this really says alot!) You can follow the story simply by listen to the music, and they are really catchy.
In this film, the humor that is present in all of the Veggiefilms have been taken up a notch. All of the films are funny, but this one is hillarious.
And the big underlying message (which is not so underlying)? That everybody deserves a secound chance. Before I saw this movie, I haven't thought of this story this way (call me stupid, being 24 and all...). The miovie has something to say to everybody. From the kids who's not willing to forgive their friends for doing something stupid, to the grownups in church who believe they are better that everybody else, not willing to see that neither themselves ever can deserve the grace of God. And finally, to the non-believers it tells the story of a God who gives a secound chance, no matter how "bad" you are, and no-one else believes you should have it.

The Doctor focuses on The Reader, and hammers away at making the point again and again that it is The Reader, not their partner, that must embrace change and improvement. It's a strong book. I laughed at how he puts into light how good my relationship is by his standards of trouble. My reasons for buying and reading this book are the same as anyone's for buying a self-helper: uncharted territory and the wish of self-improvement.
My only concern is that this book would most likely never help those who are the ones who really need it. It makes strong points to this itself: You cannot control or change other people. And those who need this book are probably not smart enough to even consider reading it or seeing the need to change and modify themselves.
Thanks Dr. Phill. I am glad I read your book. It is strong and helpful.

Dr. Phil just lately has been known in the Middle East through his program "Dr. Phil". I got to know Dr. Phil from quite some time.
This book is, as its name, a rescue procedure that the couples should follow. It starts with an inventory that each partner should do alone; evaluating him/herself independently, what were the weaknesses, how did I contributed to the failure/success of the relationship.
Then the real work begins..!!! Where the couple meets together and reviews the result. They should apply certain communication techniques. It is really very effective. At the end, the couple should agree and maintain certain techniques throughout the way.
It is not a book that you read for educational purposes, it is a life curing surgery.
For the best results, both couple should have the interest for the rescue. My advice, maintain the passion throughout the way, try to influence your partner if he(she) is not the driver for this process. It is a surgery...but very effective...
Wish you all the best while reading and applying this book...!!!!

"When you own your relationship, you must hold up the mirror to look at yourself. You will finally realize that whatever your partner is doing, you are either eliciting, maintaining, or allowing that behavior." ~ 97
It is difficult to work on your relationship by yourself. That said, Dr. Phil believes you have a lot more control than you think. By analyzing your relationship you learn about the areas that need improvement. The book begins with a questionnaire of sixty-two sentences. You choose true or false then instantly find out if your relationship is in distress.
It takes quite a lot of time to answer all the other questions including sentences you complete and analyze. You may think you have a pretty good relationship until you see what the test results are. This book may even temporarily make your relationship worse, especially if you try to get your partner to take any of the tests. The 17 page family history evaluation did seem a little over the top.
This book requires you to make a commitment to making your relationships work. It is an extremely detailed program designed to improve your relationship in a matter of weeks. You learn to agree to disagree or to argue more effectively. You develop relationship skills instead of relying on the feelings (infatuation) you felt at the start of the relationship. Dr. Phil then delves into the dark side that can sabotage a relationship.
Dr. Phil completes the book with questions he thinks you might want to ask him and then in conclusion he writes a separate letter to women and then to men. For the most part this book is complicated yet engaging. The tests are fun to take if you have the time and they do reveal aspects you might not uncover in a more casual conversation. Dr. Phil takes on all the difficult subjects and puts the ball in your court. In one sense it can be discouraging to work on a relationship by yourself and on the other hand your partner might actually get involved in making the relationship work. "Relationship Rescue" is one of the most intense relationship books I've ever read.

I have actually been through a long period of spiritual chaos. I have owned this book in the past. I also owned many other books that are of this kind. This book is actually useless. The best thing to do in times of turmoil is to keep things SIMPLY. That is the best solution. Think in a positive way but not to the extreme end that is advocated in all these self improvement books which are actually self DESTRUCTION books.
For those who question my opinion, I have been severely depressed for over 6 years. I stop being depressed back in 2003. I am currently a psychology major. REAL psychology books are VERY different from these SHAM books.
I hope my review have helped someone. If you have books like this, you should throw them away.

Active alcoholism and drug addictions are "drop dead deal breakers" according to Dr. Phil. A helpful book, for those living with an alcoholic, who do NOT want to leave the relationship is Getting Them Sober: You Can Help! (Getting Them Sober). Alcoholism is a "drop dead deal breaker" according to Dr. Phil. This is the same
mis-guidance that has presented itself in dozens of books for the last 20 years----books that basically say, "divorce him now!".
Well, 50% of American families (according to the National Institutes of Health) have "at least one or two active alcoholics in them". So, Dr. Phil----in essence---is advocating divorce for 50% of American families. Whoa! Most of us married to alcoholics are so frozen with fear of losing our relationships (I know this sounds weird----but if you live with an alcoholic, you will know what I mean) that we have often have trouble ordering pizza in without cooking------much less being able to leave him. And Dr. Phil is basically just shaming us who are married to alcoholics. What IS the answer for us? What book DOES gives us literally hundreds of practical answers to helping the alcoholic achieve sobriety------AND helping ourselves and our children?
"Getting Them Sober" ---- the million-selling book that is endorsed by "dear Abby" Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, the employee assistance program at Harvard University, Melody Beattie (author of 'Codependent No More', who said "'Getting Them Sober' is the BEST book for the family of the still-drinking alcoholic".)

I honestly think that Across 110th Street could have been a really good film as opposed to one that now has the reputation of being a B Movie. Yaphet Kotto was great as Lieutenant Pope but he was one of the few individuals in this production who gave his role the appropriate subtlety. I love Anthony Quinn but found his Captain Mattelli to be way over the top. Honestly, the amount of racism on display in the relations between blacks and whites is truly frightening and clashes mightily with reality. Indeed, such levels of racial animosity were likely not ever present in a northern city after the end of The Civil War. It just did not sit right with me and prevented my truly enjoying the film. The topic, the conflict between the mob and the Harlem syndicate, could not be any more interesting, however. The same can be said of the intense amount of corruption that plagued the NYPD during the 1970s.

This is one of those 70's classics that i was so glad to see become available on dvd. The acting was excellent and the story line was very nice and the script was well written. Yaphett Kotto and Anthony Quinn gave a good performance. It was cool to see Paul Benjamin's character take out the mob guys at the end. Unfortunately, his partner's were brutally murdered early on in the film. This is one film i recommend having in your archives.

It was worth seeing, but could have been so much better. Our story starts with the botched robbery of a "mafia bank in Harlem" which results in seven deaths, including two police officers. After that the focus splits and we follow three parallel stories as we watch the cops try to solve the crime, the mob try to remind the inhabitants that it is the mob that runs Harlem, and the thieves try to escape.
The main focus of the story is on the relationship between a violent, racist, older detective (Anthony Quinn) and his young, smart, honest, black counter-part (Yaphet Kotto).
Watching this movie you get the feeling that it was the "big studio" answer to the b-movie blaxsploitation craze. It has copious quantities of graphic violence (albeit lame 70s special effects type violence), it has racial tension, and it preaches a message of racial equality . . . and boy does it preach.
The story is interesting. The characters are very interesting and well developed (especially for this type of movie). You can't help but like this movie and want it to be better than it is. But boy does this movie preach . . . The white detective isn't just a racist, he isn't just an alcoholic, he isn't just a violent thug, no - just in case you didn't figure out that racism is bad and he is a "not good" character, they had to also make him be on the take.
If this movie had been just a little more subtle (and the above is only one example) it probably would have gotten four stars from me. I don't object to an "action movie" with a message. I do object to being beaten over the head repeatedly with the message. All in all, it's worth the effort to watch, if only so that you can speculate on how good it could have been

In 1972,this great action packed film was released, starring Anthony Quinn as NYPD Lt.Frank Matelli and co-starring Yaphet Kotto, Anthony Franciosa, Antonio Fargas to name a few of a brilliant cast, was in my opinion dwarfed by the screen release of "The Godfather". Time is running out on Matelli as he tries to find the Harlem perpetrators of a numbers bank armed robbery which goes awry as one of the held up "bankers" reaches for a gun and one of the perpetrators sprays them with machine gun fire, therefore conducting a massacre. Hundreds are arrested as Matelli's NYPD prescinct becomes chaotic.
Yaphet Kotto is a young detective lieutenant who the aging Matelli (Quinn) suspects is after his job. Anthony Franciosa plays a ruthless capo for the Mafia who still controls the numbers and prostitution rackets in the Harlem of the late 60's or early 70's. The leader of the black gangsters who's last name is Johnson, which is assumed to be an aging but still legendary Ellsworth "Bumpy" Johnson, the Harlem crime boss who works for the mafia and Franciosa.
I am glad this film was re-edited on DVD as it is definitely a classic that deserves to be watched by everyone who likes this genre.

I am glad this film was re-edited on DVD as it is definitely a classic that deserves to be watched by everyone who likes this genre.
Do not miss it.

I love Star Trek in all it's various incarnations, and I have to admit...I love making fun of Trekkies (who doesn't...really?). I loved the first movie for the focus on the extreme fandom (makes me feel just a little less geeky)...but this movie is even better for the great balance. It shows the funny and bizarre side of extreme fandom, but it also shows the the human side of being Trekkies - and what happens when you're a fan in a war torn country.
While not as side-splittingly funny as the first one, it can be argued that this is a better movie because of the way it highlights the Trek fandom throughout the world. The chapter on the Trekkies from Serbia is simply heartbreaking, and makes you realize how lucky we are to have all that we have.
I knew that this movie was going to be my new favorite when it highlighted the Star Trek tribute bands (you'll love No Kill I). However, for me, the best part of this DVD, are the EXTRAS. Included are FAN MADE TREK MOVIES. Get the popcorn ready, because this will entertain you for hours on end!
If you watched the first movie for the humor (let's face it, it really was hysterical), you'll love this movie too...the extras are really priceless. However, if you wanted a little more from the first film - a more balanced view - this sequel definitely delivers.

Trekkie is an insult and is akin to nerd or geek. Trekker is a more respectable term to apply to one who is a Star Trek fan. So I'm surprised that the sequel to "Trekkies", a film that took a certain amount of pleasure in debasing Star Trek fans for their obsession, didn't call their next film "Trekkers" a film that takes a little more care in their treatment of these sweet but kinda' crazy enthusiasts.
In the first film, Denise Crosby, explored the unusual relationship Star Trek fans have with the show and subsequently with the actors from the series. The result is one very funny movie that shows people not only obsessing over the realistic nature of their Star Trek costumes, but other fans who would turn their cars into shuttle crafts or their dental offices into the bridge of the Starship Enterprise. In the squeal the goals seem two fold, the filmmakers want to explore Star Trek fans around the globe and show that their obsession can also be a positive thing. The best part about this squeal however is its nod to the original movie. We catch up with some of the more memorable interviewees from the first "Trekkies". We learn that space shuttle van just disappeared one day and that it's owner, though still a huge fan, has other things on his plate...like his new wife. It's a pleasure to hear him laugh at his own fixation. Other past fans are highlighted as well and all are show in a much more positive light. The clips from Europe, Australia, South America, etc. are interesting but get a little monotonous as the film progresses. The extras actually seem a little more compelling as some clips explore the extremes a few fans go to. I also liked watching the two fan films, which are also included on the DVD. They're not very good, but the sheer joy that went into them is exhilarating.

This documentary trumps the first one in a major way by ignoring the main Star Trek actors. We don't have the millionth interview with Uhuru telling her Martin Luther King story and we don't have to watch the cast of the original series looking sicker and sicker (Rest in Peace Bones and Scotty) but we do still have the "Star Trek=World Peace" argument, but surprisingly less noxious as the Yugoslavian Trekkies talk about Star Trek as their relief from the rampant nationalism that led to some of the worst genocides of the 1990s.
The international Trekkies are delightful. The addition of Filk music (don't ask) and fan-made movies are great. And the kid from the first movie is there, supremely embarrassed by his screen presence in the first movie but ready and willing to make more gaffs (when he's not apologizing for the first movie mistakes) but he's definitely more entertaining in the second movie sitting next to his wife and wondering how he could have been so obnoxious at 17. (We all were. We all were. Just most of us didn't have a camera crew filming us.)
Like the first one, the main strengths come from the fact that these people are funny in their own right (and most of them know that they are funny) and the director never condescends to them. There are slow parts but they don't impede the movie.
Second to last note - the erotic poetry is worth the purchase price alone. It's hilarious.
Last Note - those Star Trek theme bands rock. I'm not talking about the filk singers (eh, never my thing) but the San Diego based bands whose lyrics might be silly but they play some solid sets.

The first "Trekkies" film managed to dig up some rather odd characters to give the average person an idea of what makes up a fan of "Star Trek" and all of its offspring. It gave us a cross-dressing dude who explains and performs a little "filk" for everyone. We were introduced to the lady in Arkansas who was made famous by attending Whitewater scandal jury duty in her Starfleet uniform and, alas, who could forget Gabriel Koerner. He was perhaps the uber-geek out of the whole bunch. The film also showed how the fans are very involved in their communities and world.
More of the same is offered up in "Trekkies 2," though this one was a little more emotional than the first. Denise Crosby bounces across the globe in search of more Trek fans. Once again we visit some pretty strange folks, but we are also shown how something as simple as "Star Trek" can have so much meaning to a group of people when Crosby goes to Serbia. Those people were so touched and amazed at how the characters in "Star Trek" lived amongst each other in relative peace even though they were pretty much all from different races, religions, etc. It was heartwarming to listen to these people talk about how their newfound freedom took on a special meaning through "Star Trek." I also noticed that out of all of people in this film, the Serbians seemed to be the least to play "dress up" as their favorite characters, holding more to the ideals of "Trek" and not so much the whiz-bangs and Klingons of it all.
There's one fellow who converts his house into a replica of the Enterprise. We get a better and perhaps more disturbing look into the world of "Filk" music and some of the bands in that genre. We also get a few nice clips featuring stars of the later "Trek" series and how many of their fans reacted to meeting them, funny letters, tattoos, etc.
The most fun part of this flick was when we get to look back on some of the more popular characters from the original film. We catch up with the guy who dresses his dog up in "Trek" costumes. We see Whitewater juror Barbara Adams interact with a group of people who question her about her motives for dressing up in a Starfleet uniform for court, and one individual gets pretty rough with her. Finally, we get to catch up with Gabriel Koerner, and learn that he is married, has steady work as a digital model builder for such shows as the new "Battlestar Galactica" and seems to have stepped back from, just a little, his love for "Trek."
In the end, if you enjoyed the original "Trekkies," you'll like this second helping. It might go overboard with a few of the fans, especially with the "Filk" singers, but we are shown that most Trekkies, Trekkers, etc. are primarily good folks with very big hearts(and many have graduate degrees).
Some folks collect baseball cards, some collect CDs, these folks just love their "Trek." Is that so wrong?

After loving Trekkies I, we ordered Trekkies 2, an obviously PC response to fan backlash from the hilarious portrayal of Trek fans in Trekkies I. Trekkies 2 is a yawn...slow and boring with very few colorful fans other than updates on megafans featured in Trekkies I.

FOR STARTERS, LET ME SAY THAT I THINK PRETTY HIGHLY OF THIS FILM. HOWEVER, THIS IS NOT A FILM THAT WARRANTS THE EXTRA MONEY TO GO BLU-RAY.
I OWN THIS TITLE ON DVD AND BLU, AND FRANKLY, I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE MY BLU MONEY BACK. THERE IS NOT A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN EITHER PICTURE OR SOUND QUALITY. WITH A FAIRLY LARGE COLLECTION OF STANDARD AND HIGH DEF FILMS, THIS IS JUST ONE THAT IS NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY IN MY OPINION.
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THOUGH, THIS FILM IS WELL WORTH THE COST OF A STANDARD DVD AND WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION.

The Patriot DVD
Mel Gibson is a pacifist who live in South Carolina circa 1776. His pacifism was caused by the violence he saw during the French and Indian War that he fought in. Heath Ledger plays his almost grown son.
Highly recommended for fans of the American Revolutionary war, Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger.

I like how he doesn't want to fight. He just wants to live in peace and raise his family and tend his crops.
Just like American patriots to this day he did not want war. No, we are a God fearing, peaceful people. But, if our freedom is under attack and our country needs us then we will accept the call to duty. Freedom is not free.
This is the true American spirit and even though Australian, Mel Gibson understands it very well. Perhaps it is his faith that ties him together with us. As in a previous film, "Braveheart", Gibson is a good man forced into action by circumstances beyond his control to fight the English. And when he does, put on your rain coat because there will be blood, and lots of it, pouring and spraying everywhere. If there ain't a lot of blood shed it's not a Mel Gibson movie. Farmer Mel does the Lord's work, quickly turning into an axe weilding colonial Rambo killing machine. I suppose one shouldn't be surprised at his dispatching of a fairly large number of Red Coats with such efficiency. The peoples' blood lust shall be satisfied with just killings of the wicked. And the English surely are wicked and cruel, at one point burning to the ground a little white chapel filled with innocents. No wonder our brave countrymen fought the Revolution. And watching this vivid and moving history you know God was on our side.
Actually, the movie is pretty fascist in it's conception. Leni Riefenstahl would love it. It does make you wonder when something like this is popular what percentage of the masses, particularly the peasantry, is inherently fascist in it's politics. Or if not inherently, at least very prone. Scary.

Analysis looks honest to me and although it's not an encyclopaedic work all important ideas are explained sufficiently. I can recommend this book for everyone you want to learn the Meran (like me who want to understand the queen's pawn openings).
