Vincent Tyler is a remarkable person and poet. He breathes life into what seems to be ordinary words on a page. His writing affirm what sisaths are dying to know.... that there are brothas out there who understand our deepest desire and needs. This book also affirms that it is okay for a man be in touch with his sensual & romantic side and not be considered a whimp. After reading this book and hearing the cd, I have included some of Mr. Tyler's works in a pamper gift basket for my sistah friends. They are truly in for a treat!!!!

This is a wonderful book Vincent has open new doors for us to explore.We now know that men can be as sensual women.If you are looking for a good read this is one but don't let it get away from you because you will want to go back to this one.

I received your book, "I thought about you today" and your CD "chocolatecoveredcherries",
from my boyfriend Deronti Milam tonight. I could not put it down until I finished the last page. I thought that it was very interesting. On the back cover it states that "this book is for adult women". Men need to read it as well so they can learn what is pleasing to a woman. If more men and women catered to each other needs, there probably would be more committed ralationship in the world today. Keep up the good work and thanks for the autograph.

I passed my NCLEX using this one fantastic book. It is comprehensive in detail and leaves nothing out. The questions at the end of each chapter are as close to those on the board as you can get. The included disk has thousands of questions and various testing and quiz options. After practicing with the "test" mode on the disk I found taking the actual boards easy to handle. If you want to pass the first time then BUY THIS BOOK. Make sure that the disk is included or you will be losing out big time. Good luck to all of you nursing students and recent graduates!!! Think positive thoughts and don't waste time doubting yourself....You Can Do It!

I've only had this book for a few days, but I already love it! I only wish I would have bought this at the beginning of nursing school instead of the end... I just graduated from nursing school, and I'm now studying to take the NCLEX. I can't begin to describe how helpful this book it. It has tons of questions and the reviews are perfect... just enough information without overwhelming you. I would recommend to others to buy this book when you are beginning nursing school, to review concepts & study for the tests. The companion CD is also great. You can choose between quizzes (short) or tests (long) and take practice NCLEX style tests. The review function is also great and tells you how to eliminate answers to get the correct one, and what book to look in to review the concept if it was something you couldn't remember. Good luck to all you nursing students out there, and get this book! It's definitely worth every penny!

I purchased this book on the advice of my neice, an ICU nurse. I was having trouble studying for the tests in my nursing classes because there was so much material. I started using this book the moment it arrived and my test scores bounced up dramatically. I've had this book one month, and my test scores went from a C, to completing the course with a B+. What I love most about this book is that it has a review of all the systems and information in a complete concise manner giving just the information related to nursing, so I don't have to wander through all kinds of narrative to get to the facts I need to study. Best study guide I found.

This was an great help with Hesi test &: ATI's. I love the disk that came with it....it has hundreds of test questions & the book gives a very detailed review for each topic. I love it!!

This was just the book I was looking for; a detailed thoroughly documented and researched account of the battle. I felt like I was watching a newsreel of the events leading up to and through the battle. The writing style is direct and clear but not dry or boring; it contains just the right amount of storytelling. You are not likely to enjoy this if you just want an overview of the battle, or if you are a casual reader; this book is written for someone who is interested in WWII strategy and tactics.

For all serious students of WW2 in the Pacific, this single book corrects all the errors, exagerations, mistatements, lies and wrong conclusions concerning what happened leading up to and during the Battle of Midway, the turning point of the Pacific war.
The authors worked for several years with documents in Japan and the USA plus interviewing living survivors as well as certain prior authors on the subject. Far different conclusions have been reached in many vital points before , during and after this battle. Vast amounts of personal egotism , face saving and self grandizement are revealed and corrected. Japanese self inflicted shame and Bushido Code behavoir which caused them to report incorrectly in many cases are revealed and corrected plus research into US military reports of the time which stated things incorrectly too frequently and lead to wrong conclusions in the post war period, which in turn mislead all postwar writers and researchers.
This book is the definitive work to date and may possibly never be updated or revised.

"Shattered Sword" is an excellent analysis of the Battle of Midway which all readers with an interest in this great battle will want to read. Its main strength is its analysis of the Japanese side and its command of detail in this regard. Recommended.

This is not just another war book, but a treaties on how to evaluate a complex situation including a battle. There were lots of new material to me, as I've only read the classic book on the Lexington. But what I found most useful was looking at the battle from a "military doctrine" point of view. How does the organization plan, what happens when the plan meets reality, what happens afterward. Does anyone learn anything from the victory or the defeat? It's pretty clear that the battle at Pearl Harbor shook up the American Navy to the point of learn or die. Not so for the Imperial Navy after Midway.

Students of WWII Pacific battles will love this book whether or not they agree with the findings of the authors. About 1/4 of the book is appendices and bibliography so if you were starting to research this battle this book will lead you to many of the key sources.

I'm off to find a book on the battle of the Solomons next, and you will be too after you read this book.

Picked up my copy at the 65th Anniversary seminar on the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Met Parschall and found him to be very knowledgeable on his subject and very entertaining. The book's coverage of the subjects of why the Japanese carriers were so vulnerable at Midway and the Aleutian diversion theory was as entertaining as it was informative. This is one of the few revisionist history books that I really enjoyed.

Cassie is tired of the missions. She's tired of the secrecy. She's tired of being an Animorph. So she quits. But the fight is far from over. A human-controller has discovered Cassie's secret.

Synapsis: Cassie decides she's had enough of the war with the Yeerks and with the Animorphs, so she quits the team. She's lost the capacity to feel anything, love, hate, even fear, as it blurs into a kind of emotionless nothing within her. Unable to cope with the lies to her parents, the stress, and the inhumanities of war, she tries to leave it all behind. To make matters worse, her parents are going to lose the animal rehabilitation center which they run. Yet, even that, she finds herself unable to care about as much about it as she knows she should. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the fans of the series), things don't go anything near what Cassie plans, and she finds she has someone watching her. The watcher is revealed to be a little girl, who Cassie rescues from a bear, then finds herself swept into a river, washed into the heart of a forest. Without any idea of which way to go, against the elements, and the very real threats of dying of exposure, Cassie would normally morph and fly to civilization. To complicate things, however, the little girl is with her. It's easily discovered the child is a Controller, and the Yeerk inside her mind wants to learn everything about Cassie. Throughout revealing herself to the Yeerk, yet survive, Cassie is forced into some tough problems which have nothing to do with battle. There's also an added problem in an escaped leopard who is determined to make an easy meal out of the wounded Controller or Cassie.

This is one of the more thought provoking books of the series, and isn't focused on the battles as others have been in the series. We get a look at the Yeerk race as never before, that not all of them are the evil, cowardly creatures like Visser Three. Although not precisely nice beings, it presents concepts such as a parasites view on its right to live, expand, and experience the world of sight and colors as opposed to blindness. This is the first book of the series which introduces the idea of the Yeerk resistance members.

As for my personal opinions of the book, I'd have to say that in thinking about the entire series, this is probably my favorite book. I don't have a favorite character, because each one is great in his or her own way. There's enjoyment for me reading about each one for many different reasons. Cassie, however, has always been more or less the keeper of the morals of the group. She's always had a feeling for people's feelings, and been relied upon to help judge the right from the wrong. For her to suddenly lose her ability to care is like the character losing her own soul. From the other reviews I've seen by fans, I don't get the impression Cassie is as popular as Rachel and Tobias, but I see her as very much a critical part of the team. Without Cassie to help counterbalance Rachel, even "Xena, Warrior Princess" could easily go running headlong into decisions she'd regret later. Rachel is the group's courage, directness, and shares a bit of ruthlessness with Marco (all critical elements.) Cassie, however, helps keep the scales balanced, and never has such an in depth look been given to her character as this story. We see her make a tremendous sacrifice, and all of it, in her mind, to do nothing but make a small amount of peace between one Yeerk, one human/Animorph, and free a solitary little girl from being a Controller. In finding that one, small, fragment of peace, she's also able to make peace with herself and find where she belongs in the war. There are no easy, pat answers for her. She does, however, find a place for someone who regaurs all life as sacred -- yet is in the middle of a war to save the human race.

We also see what life is like for some of the Yeerks, some of which are equally tired of the war. Like any war, there's more than one side, and much like a common German soldier in comparison to Hitler in WWII, there's no utter black or white when you look at the big picture. This gives the series even more depth and realism overall.

The imagry of the forest is very well done in this story, as well. In the earlier Megamorphs: Time of the Dinosaurs, we were shown a world which was nearly impossible to survive in. However, that was largely due to the fact the humans went from the height of the food chain to the very bottom. In this novel, its a very mundane and normal forest which provides most of the opposition against the little girl with the twisted ankle who Cassie is trying to get back to civilization for the sake of the host ... or perhaps the Yeerk and the host... or even more possibly for herself. Cassie knows the best thing to do would be to kill the Yeerk with Kadrona starvation, or even kill host and Yeerk together. In her heart, however, she knows the "best" thing is not the right thing. This prompts long nights trapped in the wilderness which Applegate brings to life in a very vivid way for such a short work.

I found the book itself was also the typical fast paced read, although it didn't focus on fights, battles, or humor. The author moved her plot along well with a sprinkling of action here and there, keeping me interested with facts about the Yeerks or other tension which didn't have to do with physical confrontation. Highly recommended.

Wow! Iloved this Book! I think everyone was impressed because usually the Cassie books stink. This book is a turning point in the Animorph series. Cassie learns that she can't escape the war, but when she has to return, it will be even harder to fight . .

I bought this book on a recommendation. I took Spanish in high school, and even got a high enough score on the AP exam to qualify for college credit. But that was about 15 years ago. Since then I don't get much opportunity to use or practice Spanish, but I still enjoy trying to learn the language by occasionally attempting simple novels in Spanish, watching movies, etc.

This book conversationally and entertainingly explains a lot of subtleties that you will not find in your standard language text. Basically, it will help you avoid making particularly embarrassing mistakes. I also thought its explanations of the subjunctive mood and when and how to use it pretty good.

This is a good book to get one beyond the "como estas Senor Lopez" many text books start with. It contains common pitfalls, words that are cognates, and words that aren't (embarazada anyone?) - and lot of good examples of these. Highly recommend this book to unlearn some of the things you learned from your Spanish textbook.

My son is serving a Spanish speaking mission for our church. He is wanting to improve his Spanish and has asked for my help. He told me this book was recommended to him. He has thanked me for all the help I have sent him, so I assume this is a good help.

I purchased this book when I was diving into learning the Spanish language. Although not fluent, this book is a tremendous reference source indicated which word to use when. I still use the book to this day. The author makes it interesting and fun. I'd recommend it to anyone wishing to explore and break out of their gringo culture. I've written my own book and I've included some Spanish dialog that is not "proper spanish" in it.

Notwithstanding my recent romantic desires for a certain woman of Latin origins, and that I am a student of Spanish, I am not compelled to "speak Spanish like a native". The "gotta get it right" tone of this book (and many courses oriented to the beer-swigging tourist) isn't a selling point for me. But this is a good read, very informative and entertaining. Worth every penny. The discussion about the subjunctive is maybe a bit off-putting, not because the author fails to grasp the Spanish application of that somewhat unecessary tense (all you need is "maybe")--but because he seems confused about the English non-use of it in similar "situations" for which, he says, Spanish requires it.

It is not a good idea to ever over-concern yourself with idiomatic expressions, in any language. They come, they go. Like, read some dialog from an aging novel:

"Dig this," says one character, holding up a glittery item.
"Far out!" says another character ...

I am left, by Breaking Out of Beginner's Spanish, with the feeling that Spanish, deep down in the nitty gritty grammar, especially compared with English--whose main "problem" is its spelling--see, for example, The Future of Fonics: Spelling and Literacy--might be a bit too fraught with ancient cultural freight for a foreigner to worry much (not anymore, say, than using the big fork for salad) about ephemeral idioms and uttering shamefully quaint constructions. One asks himself how much of his personality, at home and away, is the result of his use (choices) of idiomatic speech, and, for that matter, perfect grammar? In other words, wherever your travels take you, just put your heart in the right place and ¡hablabla!

Our daughter-in-law was murdered recently. My wife and I relate to these thoughts on some days right now. With our grief being new we are sure that as time passes we will be able to relate a lot more. It is always nice to here what someone who has been there has to say.

This book was recommended to me after the untimely passing of my brother in January. I now read it at least once a day. The daily thoughts are both inspirational and realistic. i bought another copy for my mother, who is also benefiting a great deal from it.

I highly recommend this book.

Healing After Loss: Daily Meditations For Working Through Grief I got so much more than I expected from this small & affordable book. It's a GOLDMINE for those suffering a loss. After a loss, I often did not have the energy to read long or complex books. These daily messages are simple, to the point, and SO HELPFUL. The size of the book makes it portable, (for your purse, backpack....)as, I often can't predict when a grief reaction will hit me during a day. The author draws upon a diverse sources for quotes, and the readings have been amazingly affirmative. It feels like the author really knows what she's talking about...it's not "cheesy advice." The short, succinct messages have helped me get through some of the most difficult days after my loss....one day at a time. I really appreciate the genius mix of simplicity & powerful affirmation. I feel like writing the author a thank you note! I give a copy to people who have lost someone. I think it's a more practical gift than a sympathy card.

I wish I had known about this book when my father died from cancer. I had so many mixed messages about grief and what I should be doing that Healing After Loss would have provided a great beginning foundation to work through my rollercoaster of emotions especially when I found it hard to find a good grief counselor. I highly recommend this book to anyone facing a loss or for friends to give friends who have suffered a loss and don't know what else to do.

I received this book from a friend who lost her son two weeks prior to me losing our son at age 18. I had read numerous books, some helpful, some not really applicable. This is a daily reading that helped me tremendously. I now purchase copies to give to people who have lost someone important and are really struggling with their loss.

This was an amazing book. Marie Antonette was a beautiful young maiden who showed her worth to King Louis. This was a great historical story. She was the great queen of England. She was, sadly, forced into an arranged marriage. She then transformed Louis into a kind man. I like this novel because it had real life situations in it and how to get out of them. I would look up to M. A. if she was alive today. She is my historical hero. She is a great role model to all special people.

Marie Antoinette: Princess of Versaille, Austria-France, 1769 takes young readers and adults into the world of the Franch history through the eyes of a young Queen. All the cruelties and hypocricies are exposed in sharp contrast to the extreme devotion to fashion and petty perfections.

What a wonderful way to enjoy history -- and an excellent lesson in human nature, as well!

This royal diaries book starts out in Vienna, Austria January 1, 1769. The book continues while Marie Antoina (Marie Antoinette) goes from an Archduchess in Austria to a Dauphine in France. Marie Antoina becomes Marie Antoinette when she marries Louis Auguste. This book kept me entertained from the first page. When Marie Antoinette first arrives in France she is told to leave everthing Austrian behind and she feels alone. She encounters Madame du Barry, King Louis XV's mistress and ends when she makes up her mind to talk to du Barry after ignoring her for a while in the book. The Epilogue finishes up Marie Antoinette's life in a few pages and a brief description. A Historical Note explains how the world was changing and calling for revolution. A family tree that includes the Habsburg-Bourbon family tree with descriptions of Marie Antoinette's parents, husband and children. There are pictures in the last pages too of Marie Antoina, Antoina's mother, Antoina and her children, castles, and du Barry. There is also 2 and a half pages about the author.

This book was written based off of the diary of Marie Antoinette. When she is given a diary, she doesn't know at first what to write in it. She just writes her daily chores down & what she's done that day. She is born as the daughter of Empress Maria Theresa as Maria Antonia. Her mother is a very strict person who likes things done her own way. As custom, Maria Antonia is 13 & awaiting to find out who she will marry. Her mother picks out her husband just as she had done for her 3 sisters before her. She is only allowed to marry royalty because her mother needs allies for Austria. Years before, a ruler from another country had seized power of land that had belonged to her family. Ever since then, her mother had been making allies to take the land that she rightfully owned back. Unfortunately for her mother, Maria Antonia is a very headstrong young girl. She, also, knows what she wants & won't stop until she gets it. She obeys her mother but similtaneously listens to her wilder side. When she is told she is to marry the prince of France & live in Versailles, she isn't quite sure of what to think. She expects him to be a very handsome prince because his grandfather was. She spent months getting ready for the court of Versailles. The rules & manors are very different. This once independent girl has to learn how to let everyone else do everything for her. She isn't even allowed to give herself a bath. She doesn't adjust very well either. She believes that the manors are completely pointless. She doesn't understand why it is that in Versailles, belching at the table is considered polite. She also must change her name to Marie Antoinette to sound more French. The rules are almost opposite from her home. The worst part about her trip is that she cannot take anyone with her except for her dog. Her little dog will be her only companion as she leaves her home to join her awaiting new family & husband. When she gets there, Louis, the prince, is not exactly her idea of a fairytale prince. He's quite overweight, very shy, & has very bad acne on his face. For the first few weeks, he barely speaks to her. He is very sweet but she wants to get to know him better. She decides that if they are going to talk, she's going to have to start the conversations until he gets used to her better. She does, however, make friends with his aunts who aren't too much older than they are. She finds out a lot of important court information from them. Soon, she learns of a secret room in her apartments that had been used by previous princesses to get away from the constant media. When she wants time to herself, she can go in there. She talks to Louis about it & he has it decorated for her. Eventually, they warm up to each other & get to know each other better. When they don't share interests in a particular subject, they still support the other one & watch them anyways. They both teach each other a lot & do grow to like each other. Marie Antoinette knows that she will never truly love him but because they cannot divorse, they are at least good friends. They live a very good adolescent life together. The book stops a few years after their wedding. It doesn't go into her adult life at all but knowing about her childhood, I believe that she led a very independent lifestyle & probably changed some things about the Versailles manors when she became queen. This book was excellent & a good way to learn about history & a very important French ruler.

I personally thing that this was a very good book. I think it had a lot of good morals, and is apropriate for any age. I would recommend that you read it. I really like the main character i think she was an all around girl that just made a few bad choices. Anyway this is a great book and i think you should read it

Well researched and well written. If you want to know about Special Forces recon teams in Vietnam, don't pass this one up.

Read this book a while back and I just want to say it was a terrific read, with good stories about our fighting men who performed magnificently in an unpopular war for an ungrateful populace. Thank you Vietnam veterans for your service.

A very comprehensive account of until recently unknown military activities in Viet Nam. I purchased the book because it had references to my brother-in-law, Walter Shumate and it provided me with some insight on his role in this action.

This is a book I bought based on the VERY high reviews on Amazon. To me this one lived up to the high praise. I had no idea what SOG was - now I do ...& I am very impressed. There are so many great stories in here - almost all incredible life & death situations. I have the highest respect for the men who served in SOG. Worth buying for sure.

Excellent! As a Huey pilot who participated in a number of SOG insertions and extractions out of Quan Tri (CCN), it was interesting to read what was happening in between. At the time, we only told "were to put them and when and where to pick them up". We were not told their mission.... we did not have a need to know. I can tell you it was at times very exciting. There is nothing in the world like seeing tracers flying by or having the crew telling you we are taking hits. After my Huey was shot down, it was these guys who clipped me into the harness for my rope ride out. They were also the first faces that I saw when I awoke two days later in a hospital bed. They are truly the bravest of the brave... I recommend this book for anyone who wants to know what war is really about.

I gave this book 4 stars only because it was published in 1995, which is over a decade ago. It is a good source for background information about a corporate executive I respect--and there are few of those to be found. Buffett told the author he would nothing to help or hinder, and the journalistic quality and information is well-presented and -documented. A good place to learn more about the "Oracle of Omaha". I'd like to see Lowenstein do a follow-up covering the more recent years.

Before writing my impressions of this book, I think it is first important to identify the reviewer so others can see my perspective. I am a young graduate with limited to no investing experience. I became interest in Warren Buffett after reading a fair amount of articles on Buffett the person; his success in investing, his political views, his recent contribution to the Gates charity, and most importantly, his character. I became intrigued enough to inquire about the details of who this man is and his philosophy.

This was exactly what the book offered; it is a biography, not an investment guide. That said, it is not really possible to unlink Buffett the person and Buffett the investor. His core values are too in entwined for it to be anything other. Lowenstein does a great job of presenting information in terms that a layman like myself can understand (with some help from simple research) while still providing enough information to get the details about Buffett's investment strategies and core values.

I found the book to be both informative and enticing. It has instilled in me a great respect for the man, as well as an interest in becoming less of an investment layman. The book is a bit dated, now being about 13 years old, but after reading it, I find this point moot. Buffett's approach has been the same since he learned from Graham, just with more information and an increasing scope in which to apply his tactics.

In my opinion, Lowenstein did a fantastic job researching his subject matter. The book is ripe with references and further signs that he truly knows his subject. I also found little to no signs of a subjective approach in respect to either glorifying Buffett or demonizing him, as far as is humanly possible. Buffett's mistakes are presented as clearly as his amazing triumphs (and they are quite amazing). Lowenstein's approach is instead to provide as clear as possible a presentation of Buffett's character, which is again entwined with his (enormous) successes and (minor) setbacks.

Highly recommended for those interested in his character. Again, this book is a biography, not an investment guide, but it seems hard to separate the two in regards to Buffett.

Warren Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist is a touching, human portrayal of a true capitalist. Roger Lowenstein's portrait of Warren Buffett as a modern day mathematical wizard and financier was touching both in its humanity and educational in its documentation of the making of the most successful, modern entrepreneur.

One would be interested to hear more about what Mr. Buffet has been up to since the release of this book. There have been significant events that have followed.

This is the book to read if one is interested in a biography of Warren Buffett. Highly Recommended.

This is a biography. It talks about his parents, what he was like as a kid and how he got where he is today. It is college level reading, but flows nicely. Specific chapters fill us in in detail about some of the more complex times in his life like the beginnings of Berkshire and being investigated by the SEC.

I've liked the book. I'm not quite done, but it's kept my interest for like 500 pages - and that's not easy (if you knew me).

Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist by Lowenstein is one of the most delightful books I have ever read. It was difficult to put this book down. If you enjoy an enterprising adventure, you'll love this one. More than investment epic biography; it is an exciting light fun read. There are tidbits of investing genius around every corner. My connection came when I learned how enterprising Warren was even as a young boy and then it gets better and better. Our investment club, also selected this book to study in 2008 and it has been exceeding expectations. It is one of several books I have read on the topic of Warren Buffett and it is by-far-and-away, the best. This is one you will want to keep for your collection and share with your kids, friends and family.

friend ( a Presby. lay pastor)who took it with her from the WV mts. to
her family home in Fla....she read it while on the beach & upon returning used it as the basis for her sermon for Women's Sunday.Each time I find
something "new/eye-opening & worthy" in the examination of the shells to
our individual lives.

Everyone should read "A Gift From the Sea". This is a book filled with wisdom. Unfortunately I read it later in my life. I wish I would have had this book in my twenties. Anne Morrow Lindbergh was a woman who understood life.

There are a gazillion books out there on how to find yourself, follow your bliss, and cope with midlife crisis, but none more succinct or more profound than this slim and elegant volume. Each chapter is lovingly structured according to a particular species of shell, and the result is a beautifully observed prose poem about the evolution of the female psyche. With its compact size and attractive cover art, it makes a particularly charming gift.

Read it once, pass it on, read it later, pass it on, read in when even older, pass it on . . .

This book will touch your heart. I rarely ever read a memoir more than once, but this book is an exception. When you're reading it, you can feel yourself transported to the beach. There's a peacefulness that settles over you as Anne Lindbergh talks about shells, and oysters and the sand and sea.

Interwoven with the talk about the sea are her observations on life. How modern gadgets complicate life, rather than simplify it. Or how a good relationship is like a dance, where the two partners love so completely, they forget to ask themselves whether they're loved in return.

This is a beautiful and inspiring book, which continues to touch your life long after you read it.
