This is a deceptively short (229 pages), remarkably rigorous and in-depth introduction to many of Word 2002's basic features. It gives you hands on examples of how to use these features and guides you through your first experience in doing them yourself. It forces you to explore different ways of accomplishing the same task so that you will have them in your arsenal when you are on your own. Upon completing this book, you will have learned, in short order, many essential business features of Word 2002. You will not be an expert in them, but you will be ready to take on meaty assignments with the software. Cosmetically, this book is sound as well. The pages are larger than your general computer book, the print is larger and easier to read, the graphics, while not full screen size, are large and clear enough so you can clearly see what they are referring to, and whenever they instruct you to click on an icon, a picture of it is featured in the outside margin next to the sentence making it very easy to find it on the screen itself. Finally, there are tasty little tidbits in the footnotes throughout the book. Unnecessary to read for the training exercises, they explore features beyond what is covered in the book itself giving you room to develop your skills on your own with your own examples. All in all an excellent introductory training manual that will get you up to speed in no time at all.

A great refresher

Review Date: 2008-10-08
I am a 30 year veteran of IT. I took the ITIL Foundations course long ago (before there were any version numbers). Being unemployed, I realized that it would be a good idea to have the Foundations V3 certification on my resume.

So - my choices were to spend about $2000 to take the 3-day classroom course again or buy this book (under $100) + pay for the test fee ($200).
I've "lived" ITIL for almost 7 years, so all I really wanted was to brush-up on the definitions (and the V3 updates) to take the test.

At first, paying around $80 for this (large-type) "booklet" seemed a bit steep, however it did cover the material nicely AND the on-line course is "worth the price of admission". It fit my requirements quite nicely.

If you are new to the world of ITIL, I would not recommend this book as a substitute for a classroom course. However, if you've "been there, done that" this book is great prep for the exam.

The product includes a book and an online course.
During my 2 day research online and in book stores (borders/barnes&nobles), I found this to be one of the best available courses in the market. I skimmed through some other books but this book was more focussed and objective for the V3 ITIL foundation exam

The book is written in simple language with relevant examples. The pace of the book simplifies the learning curve as it slowly inmerses the reader into the ITIL fundamentals and then pulls into deeper waters detailing the finer aspects. The authors explain the concepts very clearly and concisely. The book content is sufficient for passing the foundation exam.

The reader has to register for the online course separately. The registration is quick. I got the account started within a few hours. In fact there were multiple response. (To be frank, I was bit skeptical initially on when my account will be activated). It turned out to be a pleasant experience. The course perfectly compliments the book (plus more). I used the book at home and the online course at work.

I am planning to take my foundation exams later this week. This book certainly has helped me making the initial big strides for the V3 foundation exam.

I hope this review helps the undecided candidate trying to certify in ITIL to buy this book online especially on Amazon. This book was not easily available in any of the stores. The shipping was quick and I got it by 2-day service.

The book/online course is worth the investment.

I had only heard a few buzzwords regarding ITIL before purchasing the certification kit from The Art of Service. I viewed the online content and read the book the week before my ITIL V3 Foundations exam. The online content and book complemented each other very nicely. The online content presented the materials very clearly and the study guide highlighted the relevant material that was on the exam. The use of diagrams and the examples highlighted in the study guide made it very easy to understand the ITIL concepts. I recommend this certification kit to anyone that wants a solid understanding of the ITIL foundations and wants to pass the exam on the first attempt.

ITIL Foundation Prep - Must have for self study and those on a budget

The book and corresponding online course were all I needed to study and pass the ITIL Foundation test. However, this is not a simple test-prep book. The kit takes you through all the concepts with decent detail and passes on a good understanding of the principals, processes, and interconnectivities (lifecycle) of Service Management.

This is a must read if you are self studying and is by far the best "bang for the buck" for those of you with a limited training budget or are self-financing your professional growth!

Lessons Learned: 1) One Complete Certification Kit is sufficent and 2) folks at "the art of service" believe in service!

I purchased the Art of Service ITIL V3 Foundation complete Certification Kit for $82.90 from Amazon last week and the book arrived in a few days. When I opened the front cover, I read online eLearning connection instructions. Once online, I inadvertently purchased another "Certification Bundle" that included another exam preparation book, coupled with online learning, for which I paid $154.40 (US). Since I had already received the book, I realized I might have overpaid for the online learning "bundle" at a total cost of $237.30 US. Realizing my possible error, I immediately contacted customer service (Germany) by email on Friday afternoon. I received very rapid email inquiries as to the steps I took that put me in this situation. I was refunded within hours on the same day of the second purchase. On the following Monday morning I noted many email messages inquiring whether the problem was resolved and whether I had returned to the online study course. Lessons Learned: 1) One Complete Certification Kit (sold on Amazon) is sufficent and 2)folks at "the art of service" believe in service! Back to studying...

This book is one of the best reads of all of my school books, simply because Lehne doesn't try to sound hyper-intelligent to impress. He keeps it simple, and interesting, and that definitely gives one the desire to continue reading. I have learned so much from this book already. One of my favorite school reads by far! This book will continue to be useful in my future studies. Worth every cent that was paid! LOVES IT!

This book has a lot of detail in it, which makes it a lot easier to understand the difficult terminology. I recommend this book to anyone who is in nursing, pharm or medical school. Very helpful! Puts knowledge into words that are easy to understand and uses a lot of examples. Great text! It also comes with a CD that is extremely helpful

This classic text is simply the best. It's great for an undergraduate nursing pharmacology course, and it's also good as a review prior to advanced pharmacology for NPs. The text is well organized and gives a solid but not overly technical treatment of pharmacology. Definitely a must have for any nurse!

Pharm was definitely my hardest subject during nursing school. I had a hard time keeping all the drug classes straight, but this incredible textbook gave me the exact tools I needed to understand the drugs. With Lehne's sense of humor (in chapter 1 she writes a note to the "chemophobes" - those of us who are scared of chemistry class!) makes this text book interesting and easy to read.

I had another text for my pre-nursing pharmacology class, and after suffering through it, found this one. Even though I had already finished the class, I bought this and read it cover to cover. It's worth it. Not a lot of details on the chemistry, but it's great for the practicioner who needs the practical information. The background parts that discuss physiology and some chem are excellent to keep things in context.

I picked up this book "on sale" thinking it would eventually be useful. It turned out I needed it almost immediately to prepare some high-priority training presentations.

I'd used PowerPoint before to do some presentations for school but hadn't used any of the really cool useful features because I didn't know they existed. The importance of this work-related project motivated me to sit down and work through the entire book. I was impressed with how fast it moves from one useful topic to the next. It took me two days (part-time) to get all the way through the book but an inspired reader could do it in a day. By the end of the book I'd learned enough to complete the training presentation project very successfully.

I typically hate application instruction books because they are usually so patronizing. But this one is definitely useful and easy to read. I'm now interested in checking out more titles in Microsoft's "Quick Course" book series.

Fran Vincent goes through a nuts and bolts approach to MySpace that was incredibly helpful for me, especially since I am not HTML savvy. She also includes a great list of helpful websites to help edit your MySpace page as well as an insiders look to promoting your music on MySpace.

This book is the most comprehensive, most up to date, and well thought out book I have seen on the subject of Myspace and social networking. To my knowledge it has been the only attempt at covering all the "need to know" information for people looking to use Myspace for their business advantage. I have used several of the principles presented in the book, and having it as a resource has proven to be invaluable. Whether you consider yourself an expert, or just a casual user, this book will help you maximize the effectiveness of your social networking experience.

This book is mainly for beginners of myspace.
I didn't learn anything from reading this book, everything I already knew.
I definitely recommend it for the people just starting out with myspace.
It tells you everything you need to know and how to make your myspace yours.
It seems that it goes more in-depth about myspace it self rather than telling you what myspace musicians should do.
more than half the book wasnt even directed towards musicians.

If you already know myspace, save your money and just search the web.

Pretty good for getting an idea of what to actually expect

You can have anyone tell you that you will have to study more, focus more or spend hours online at 2:00 AM but this book actually gives you an actual example of what to expect...and how to handle each step. I think that the author may have been involved with University of Phoenix online at some point as his sample course seems to model the UoP course format but it is a good starting point for someone who has no idea what to expect. Not that expensive, easy read and really does try to break everything down to a level that everyone can understand. While other study and organization books are better overall, this is the only one that I have found that offers detailed advice & tips regarding how to work with an online forum.

You can be a successful online student. Never doubt yourself.

Advice from an online Masters Education graduate:

Anyone can be a successfull online student but there are a couple of things that the person must have in order for him or her to be successful in the subject courses that he or she will be taking at any of the online schools that exist in this great nation(USA).

1. You must have a great relationship with your computer. Know your computer like the back of your hand. Know how it works, of how it operates and make sure you have the necessary programs installed in it so it can make your online class experience more smooth. Many of the programs can be downloaded at the online school website, or for free at the internet(if you look for them on particular websites). The school that i went to required one to have Java.

2. Know APA Citation. This is very important especially for students who are majoring in Education but it seems that APA Citation is more important or seen very highly by more teachers at many of the online schools than MLA. Many teachers get technical with one (the student)if one does not know APA very well. So please learn it. In the end you will see that APA is better than MLA. It is faster to memorize.

3. Always be a team player, believe in Synergy. Online is no place for solo runners. Because you will always be working in groups for the most part.

4. Buy used books if you are on a tight budget. It really helps.

5. Always keep in touch with your advisors (at the school that you are in), either through email, telephone or both, and especially with your teacher. You need to know your progress.

6. Always use [...].Many online schools have[...]as a service. They have great tutors who are very knowledgeable in many fields. For example, English, math, Spanish, Calculus, and Government.

7. Always be positive because some classes are lonely so get the drive to strive ahead. Think about puppies, or your girlfriend, or of special memories of people you have helped back then(e.g., the elderly, your mom, or kids at school)..which will motivate you to do good in the class you are in. See the higher goal...that you want to make a difference in this world that you are in. Be a change agent.

8. Never post your photograph in the course room even if you think and are an attractive person(e.g., an attractive russian lady or an ex model of the past). Online education regardless of what people think does have social prejudice and so looks or non looks may do you in(in failing the class). The most important key is the knowledge that you will be submitting in the course room as well as the information you will be sending to your professor via email.... No one needs to know how you look like. The less they know about you or anyone else reading this the more you are in control.

9. Have alot of patience in everything you do online, and have patience when you type because the answers you give in the course room will be long. How do you say? Love the keyboard.

10.If you like talking, then learn to love the keyboard as well. The keyboard will be your mouth/pen in the cyber world. *Another benefit is that you will get more typing experience. Always give good answers. Remember you are paying alot of money to be online so make every answer count. Never give clown answers (baseless answers).

11. This is very important, but make sure your school is accredited. If your school is not accredited then your degree is worthless. You may have a hard time finding employment.

12. You will spend alot of time on your computer. The machine will be your new friend, so get to know it well. In case you work and travel-you may use the computers at the printer places or use the public library computers in case of emergencies-when you need to send that RTF or DOC Attachment paper to your online professor.

You can be a successful online student. Just be positive, always, as well as work hard. Never doubt yourself because at times no one will believe in you. It helps one to Pray. I Prayed and it helped me move beyond, and great thing i succeeded.

The benefits outweigh the disadvantages but online is worth it. But just becareful...follow the steps, and you will be okay.
