Get a head start in web-based computing.

When I first learned about computers, only a few of them existed in the world. Since then, something extraordinary has happened in computing about every ten years, like Aestiva's web-programming language HTML/OS which is the subject of this book. It grabbed my attention and turned my professional life in a new direction. ADVANCED WEB SITES MADE EASY teaches all major concepts of this exciting technology with many well chosen examples. It contains code and building blocks that can readily be used as the core of web-based applications. Included with the book is free access to a web site featuring solutions to the exercises, a user forum, book corrections, all the book's code in downloadable form, and your own copy of HTML/OS free for 30 days.

As you work your way through the book, you'll get a good understanding of this powerful and flexible language. Chapter after chapter teaches you how easy it is to make sophisticated use of it by adding just a few lines of BASIC-like code to your HTML documents. You'll also begin to think in a new way about web computing. HTML/OS frees you from the hassles of systems integration. Whether you just want to add dynamic features to an existing site, design complex web sites, or develop web-based software, you'll never have to worry about compatibility. It runs on all platforms and includes a built-in database engine.

You'll be well equipped to build advanced web sites with this clearly written book, its companion web site, the HTML/OS manual, and the Aestiva User Center with its many ready-made examples of commercial applications and utilities, collection of sample code, and extensive knowledge base.

"Advanced Web Sites Made Easy" is a remarkable book. I read lots of third-party technical books, and this one really stands out.

It's well written, the explanations are clear, the examples are not only useable code but paced so as to be make learning progressive, and there's no fluff or patronizing chattiness. What's amazing is how often the chapters answered the questions I was having AS I was having them.

I feel really lucky that this book was available when I came to HTML/OS. It's great software (I almost don't want other web developers to know how good it is) but the official documentation and help just aren't enough.

I especially appreciate the opening and closing sections, which give some historical pespective on this kind of software development, and illuminate some potential business uses that were obscure to me as a web developer.

Kudos on a really fine piece of technical writing.

i was not web programmer before and i found this book in aestiva H2O web site, it was my first advanced web programming and was really easy to achive perfect results

the only thing the author may need to add is a CD-Rom, book some time have long code parts or at least a web location where you can copy and paste the codes

also book did not mention that aestiva has released free and smaller copy of HTML/OS called H2O Gold, and because this release if free, it will encourage newbies to start learning HTML/OS rather than the $800 for HTMLOS PRO, the book is very usefull too if you just want to use H2O only.

last advice, if you totally new to web programming then get this book with a free copy of H2O and you really done, do not bother yourself again with complicated PHP and PERL things

Even for the novice

The Aestiva HTML/OS program makes creating interactive websites with databases, search on demand systems, and other usually complicated programming tasks quite easy. I have NO programming experience. Aestiva's near-English commands and simple coding structure mean that I have built and helped to build dozens of sites. The syntax is easy to pick up (learn by doing) and the online lessons that come with each copy make the learning FAST. If you want more control of your website and less dependence on gurus I urge you to read this book.

This book is a must for all web developers.

ADVANCED WEB SITES MADE EASY is simple, clear and easy to understand with lots of examples and exercises. It travels deep in advanced HTML/OS programming for the more advanced programmers.
I have been working with Aestiva HTML/OS for 5 years; I have used PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion and many other similar products. I haven't found anything else that can come close to the performance, flexibility and easiness of use of Aestiva's engine. It's a tool to be use by beginners as well as veteran professionals in the Internet industry, like myself.

This is very good book. I've created so many websites using AJAX techonlogy. This book provided me to check how secure the websites are. I am glad that I fullfilled all the details without having the through knowledge of AJAX security. But this book has collected all the security check point at one place.

A lot of examples shows how absolutely everything could be attacked and corrupted in the chain of components used for building ajax applications, from css (yes even css) to html, from javascript to http, from browser to server ... Sometimes there's too much lines about evident things and sometimes things seems more proof of concept than real possible attacks. But these guys know what they are talking about. This is an excellent book that every serious ajax developer must have read, specially if they plan to make mashups or let their users bring and share things using their applications.

Are you a web developer? Do you believe you can ensure that your client-side code will function as expected? Well, you are wrong. In Ajax Security you will find out why.

Ajax changes the game in that it moves business logic to the client. In doing so it increases the attack surface of the application. The authors get curious with some real world Ajax frameworks such as Prototype, Dojo, and Microsoft Ajax. They demonstrate with these frameworks how developers might be unknowingly building vulnerabilities into their applications. If you're home brewing Ajax, the authors cover important security considerations you'll need to know so that you don't make the same mistakes the industry leaders have made.

I learned a lot about JavaScript from reading this book. I learned even more about how JavaScript can be used maliciously. The authors describe techniques for function clobbering, JSON hijacking, storage attacks, and presentation layer attacks. One of my favorite parts of the book, not to mention one of the scariest, is an explanation of how to hide malicious JavaScript from signature based anti-virus software.

The authors explain why the Same-Origin Policy is broken and how it can be subverted. Also covered are security considerations for offline applications. An in-depth analysis of Ajax worms is covered. If you are curious about how Ajax is changing web security you should read this book. If your are a web developer or a security professional you should read this book, even if you aren't using Ajax. If you don't believe cross-site scripting is a "big deal", I dare you to read this book and maintain the same opinion.

how to prevent web/ajax attacks

Anyone involved in developing/testing AJAX should read "AJAX Security." It covers preventing a hacker from attaching your application. The audience includes developers, QA and penetration testers. While there are code snippets, they are explained well. While managers aren't in the target audience, I think they could benefit from understanding the concepts presented in the book.

The book begins with a brief review of AJAX architecture with an emphasis on security. The writing style is quite engaging including a chapter walking you through an attack from a hacker's point of view. All the major known categories of attacks are included including resource enumeration, parameter manipulation (with SQL and XPATH injection), session hijacking, JSON hijacking, XSS, CSRF, phishing, denial of service, etc.

I particularly liked the analogies to things that happen in the physical world such as resource injection into a roommate's "to do" list and hijacking another customer's paid order in the deli. These made it easy to visualize the problem even for people who don't code often.

The authors were realistic and included the limitations and drawbacks of each tool/framework mentioned. I liked the chapter analyzing two major JavaScript worms including the source code. This really hit home on the importance of certain practices!

All information was up to date as of printing including comments on all four major browsers (IE, Firefox, Opera and Safari.) They even mentioned the HTML 5 specification. The book is not server side language specific, which was nice.

Ajax Security was the last book I read and reviewed in 2007. However, it was the best book I read all year. The book is absolutely compelling and every security professional and Web developer should read it. It's really as simple as that.

I am not a Web developer. I was not very familiar with Ajax (beyond its buzzword status and a vague notion of functionality) when I started reading Ajax Security. I attended the authors' Black Hat 2007 talk and was thoroughly impressed and disturbed by the security implications they presented. I expected Ajax Security to be a good book, but one can never be sure if talented hackers and presenters can transfer their skills to the written word. Ajax Security gets the job done.

Despite being a traditional network security guy who prefers inspecting traffic to analyzing JavaScript, I had no problem understanding Ajax Security. The authors do a superb job leading the reader through the issues surrounding modern Web applications. They start by introducing a technology, which is critical for someone like me who doesn't deal with Web development issues. Next they describe how it is broken. They continue with defensive recommendations and summarize their findings in the conclusion. This is a perfect technical writing style that is too often lost on other authors.

Ajax Security makes very good use of case studies (both large stories like ch 2 and small ones throughout the text). The book also integrates code, diagrams, and screen shots. The text itself is very clear and the authors keep the reader's attention throughout. Histories for various technologies provide a welcome background, showing readers how we've ended up in our current Web 2.0 predicament.

If you'd like a positive critique of the technical components of the book by someone who is a Web expert, I recommend reading Dre's review of Ajax Security in the TSSCI-Security blog. Otherwise, I give my highest recommendation to Ajax Security, as my Best Book Bejtlich Read in 2007 award.

I am using this text as the basis for a university-level business web application development course. It is a better introduction to ASP.NET 3.5 than any textbook I have found. The chapters unfold logically, each new skill building on the last. The prose is clear and relaxed. The code examples are correct and clearly presented. Imar has used the same organization and logic skills needed for good programming to produce an excellent book!

Nice tutorial, with good forum backup

This is a good hands-on tutorial. The author will walk you through an operation, and then explain how it works. I like that approach.

The online resources provided to accompany the book have been very helpful to me. When you start working through a new chapter, you might find it a good idea to start with the official source code provided for the previous one, instead of relying on the results of your own work, especially if you skip some of the exercises.

There is an online forum for the book, and the author and the editor do a great job of answering questions.

To fully benefit from the code-intensive examples in the book, you may want to study C# or VB in its own right as well. If you have no knowledge of programming languages at all, you might find the book a little hard to understand.

The book could benefit from some more editing, which is why I have only given it four stars. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn ASP.NET 3.5.

I think this is a great start for anyone looking to get into ASP.NET. The entire book takes you through creating a professional-looking website. The book was very well thought out and I have yet to see any errors. I've found the author to be very responsive on the WROX website, as well.

Finally, an ASP.NET book worth its cost

I've picked up copies of Beginning ASP.NET 2.0; Build Your Own ASP.NET 2.0 Web Site Using C# & VB; Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 E-Commerce in C# 2005 From Novice to Professional; and Microsoft ASP.NET 3.5 Step by Step (the only one I can recommend). With all of these, I struggled to read them and didn't feel as though I learned much, or in the case of the last, failed to get much more than an overview of ASP.NET (albeit a good one).

However, with Imar Spaanjaars' book, I finally feel comfortable with ASP.NET 3.5.

In this book Imar works through the steps of creating of an actual, fully-functional, ASP.NET 3.5 Web site, that's actually not that bad (ignoring some questionable design).

Unlike other books, Imar covers both the Express and commercial versions of Visual Studio, in a very unobtrusive way. In addition, Imar doesn't rely solely on the ASP.NET components, but gives a good deal of actual programming, in both C# and VB (in a very clean, comfortable, way).

While it's true that he references a number of other Wrox books, such as Professional ASP.NET 3.5: In C# and VB (Programmer to Programmer), there is very little that needs to be examined to get a site up and running, that would suit the majority of business needs.

Overall, my faith in the ability of Web developers to write good books has been restored by this tome (and at over 700 pages, tome it is). A Web developer Imar is, and to us, as equals, is to whom he speaks. This is clearly seen in his summaries and tips, at the end of each chapter.

I give this book 5 stars of 5. If you've read the other books and been left sad, confused, and/or angry, this is the volume to pick up.

Note: I will be reading this book twice, once I've finished with Professional ASP.NET 3.5: In C# and VB (Programmer to Programmer). There is so much in this book that bears repeating, and many things that I'm sure I missed in my first read, since it's so full of (valuable) information.

This book is a great resource. While I could give teachers the link to THWT website, passing around a paper copy has led to even more discussion, collaboration and interest. We had a copy out in the faculty lounge, and teachers from grades k-8 all found resources that were useful. Clear, well-organized, and easy to read, this is fantastic for teachers who want to spend 10 min. scanning or those who want a weekend of reading. It is helpful on both specific content links and more general resources. Get a copy for your library or faculty lounge!

Mobile technology does some wonderful things; forcing us to read through Internet pages on small screens while worrying about battery drain is not one of them. Tom Daccord offers history educators, library media specialists, and other interested readers a solution to this very problem with the most mobile, functionally-reliable technology of all: a good old-fashioned book.

Mr. Daccord's Best of History Web Sites is the perfect guidebook to help you plan and succeed on your journey through the varied and often challenging landscape of historical resources on the Web. Anytime, anywhere, the book's pages are yours to flip through, mark up, highlight, dog-ear, and re-read as you peruse the robust compilation of well annotated Web resources. Furthermore, the introductory chapters offer simple, concrete, and productive steps that you can take immediately to begin making your journey through history on the Web an easier, more efficient, and more engaging one.

Whether you consider yourself an adept online researcher, a novice Googler, or a bona fide Luddite, you can learn from this book and bring your skills with identifying and utilizing history Web sites in education to the next level. If only there were a book and accompanying Web portal like this for every subject!

Tom Daccord has done a strange, but incredibly useful thing; he has delivered his tremendous online resource, www.besthistorysites.net, in book form. It is seemingly odd because you have to ask yourself why you would purchase a paper version of a website that you get for free online. The first couple of chapters, Locating & Evaluating History Web Sites and Integrating History Web Sites in the Classroom, cover very important ideas that are in tune with his other web site, Teaching History with Technology (www.thwt.org). This part of the book offers great overviews on how to seek out, vet, and use online resources for any teacher regardless of the subject. Mr. Daccord also discusses how to teach this in class. The meat of the book is valuable because it really lends itself to how teachers work.

I work as a Technology Coach for an elementary school district in a suburb of Chicago. As part of my job I am always trying to build connections with classroom teachers. One of the best ways for me to do that is provide them with easy-to- use resources that they didn't previously know about. When I got Tom's book I emailed all of our middle-school social studies teachers. I told them about Tom's book & suggested that if they had any upcoming units for which they wanted more online resources than they already had I would be happy to look them up in The Best of History Websites & pass them along. Within a few hours I got replies from almost every teacher with request for various topics like ancient civilizations in Egypt, Rome, & Greece, WWII & The Holocaust, The Cold War, The Middle East China and its culture, religion, economy, geography, history, government, and present status, various topics focusing on Europe, Vietnam, Civil Rights, Watergate to "New World Order" , The Post 9/11 World, and the second industrial revolution/ growth of cities late 1800s/early 1900s.

The next day I had teachers stopping in to borrow the book - and that's where I think the real value is in The Best of History Websites. Teachers do a lot of planning & note taking in places where they don't have access to the web, but this book makes thousands of web-based resources for teachers available for lesson planning at any time. As mobile as computing technology is, it's still lags, at least a bit, behind a book. And yes, I found one link that needed to be updated, but out of the 75 or so that I checked, that's a darned good ratio!

For teachers looking for new ways to integrate technology in the classroom Mr. Daccord has hundreds of helpful links, ideas, & suggestions too. There are specific lesson plans, online maps, teaching guides, and activities that extend outside the classroom. This book is a real goldmine.

Why buy an oxymoron?

I'm sure that anyone considering purchasing this tome has already become familiar with the remarkable "Best of History Website." The question that immediately comes to mind is why the oxymoron of a book about websites? There are three reasons: One is the comfort of reading through a book rather than scanning webpages. Anyone who flips through the 400+ pages will immediately be drawn in by the breadth and depth of the sites reviewed. The PBS, the BBC, the Library of Congress and The New York Times websites are well represented, but there are also many obscure, yet fascinating, sites included. The extensive index is a shortcut to discovering hidden gems. The second value of this book is as a step in the conversion of the technophobic social studies teacher. I brought the book to my faculty meeting and passed it around. It was wonderful to hear the little gasps of excitement from some of the, shall we say, mature teachers who didn't know that there were so many wonderful sites on Mesoamerica or The Great Depression. One colleague tried to abscond with it! The third value of this book is the excellent chapter "Integrating History Web Sites in the Classroom." This section summarizes the best-practice use of the internet in the classroom and gave me a number of ideas of ways to make better use of computers in my class.

This is exactly what I would expect of a book with this title. It's about time. Normally I would search in magazines, trade publications and newspapers for recommended web sites. This tended to be hit and miss. The BoTB Sites guide is concise, to the point and handy. I look up what I want the first time, rather than having to wade through countless search engine results (of which the majority are not pertinent to my search). I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't have all day to play on the web.

I found the internet a hassle to search. It could take hours to find anything pertinent and useful. On-line searches can give you alot of irrelevant results. So I invested in this book and I'm glad I did.

The best part about it was no surprises. The book is organized, well-written and up to date. The editorials let me know what to expect from each site so I can go to the ones I really want. Its a great internet tool that puts an end to the useless searches. It covers a huge range of topics and the spiral binding is a great idea. No more flipping the book to keep your page when you want to explore more than one site. Put simply --its my best search engine. I would recommend it to anyone who hates wasting time.

The main reason I purchased this book initially was because I was getting very frustrated using search engines on the web to find sites relating to topics I was interested in. Not only would the actual search take forever, I would then often browse through dozens of sites before I found what I was looking for. Well, no more!

This guide does what it promises to do...provide "the best of the best" sites on numerous subjects including activism, finance, health, law, and so much more! Not only has it cut down my surfing/searching time, but it's so handy to use. The coil binding allows it to lay flat for easy reference, the attractive layout makes it easy to find information, and the reviews are so informative, you know exactly what to expect from the site. I've even found some resources I didn't know were available; not just a shopping guide, but content-rich sites. For example, the sites on activism and philanthropy not only keep you informed on what's going on in the world, but how you can make a difference!

I also found the information on the travel and finance sites very helpful - there are so many of these sites out there and they've managed to narrow it down to the best I've seen yet. They've even included 10 wedding planning sites that I wish I knew about when I was planning my wedding!

I would highly recommend this guide to anyone who uses the internet - students of all ages, professionals, homemakers - anyone who wants to find "the best" websites without wasting a lot of time.

Excellent reference guide!

Do you like books that leave you hanging? If you do this is the book for you. This book is based on a farmer who is about to kill a pig, but the pig... Wait a minute. You didn't believe I was going to tell you. Did you? The pig met a spider named Charlotte. Charlotte was helping save Wilbut too. This book is recommended for 8 year olds and up.

As a child I used to weep when reading this book. I felt so sad that a pig becomes humen food. The straight forward acceptance of death made me afraid to die. As an adult I read the book to my children and realize they need to accept the fact that we use animals for bacon and ham. Some fear it is cruel and turn into vegetarians.

As for death, it is inevitble we have to accept it. We need to value our friendship and make most of ourselves. Life does not go on forever. Our friendship with others will.

This is the Best Book I Ever Read !!!

Charlotte's Web was a great book. It was touching. Some parts of it were sad but the characters fought through it. My favorite charracter was Charlotte. Charlotte had a great personality. She always was in the best mood she could be in. Thats why i gave this book 5 stars.

I like this book because the spider Charlotte and Wilbur the pig are good friends. It all began one morning when a girl, Fern, was in the kitchen eating breakfast and her dad went out the door with an ax. My favorite part is when Wilbur meets Charolotte. (...)

`'Where's papa going with that ax?'' Wilbur the main character grew up as a runt and a wonderful girl named Fern helps him. Charlotte is a very kind spider, that meets up with Wilbur and becomes friends with Wilbur. Avrey, not the nicest boy, which is Fern's brother is a typical boy and he isn't nice to nature. Templeton, a nasty rat, likes to collect things.
Charlotte's Web is about a girl who discovers and saves a pink little pig from being killed. Then Wilbur gets into trouble and Fern's family puts him in the barn. Then Wilbur meets Charlotte. After that other trouble happens to Wilbur. Like Wilbur trying to get loose, and Wilbur trying to save Charlotte. Also when Wilbur is about to get killed in the beginning.
I would recommend this book to someone that likes sad stories. Also I would recommend it to people that like adventure. Also maybe to someone who likes happy and powerful stories.

Great edition of a classic

This hardback edition is a fantastic value; grab this over the paperback edition. My four year-old daughter loved it. It was her first "real" chapter book. We'd read a series or two of the Rainbow Fairies and a Disney collection of princess stories, but this (along with Wind and the Willows, also superb) was the first classic. She balked at first (complaining that there weren't enough pictures), but soon she was begging for "just one more chapter, please!" The afterward is more geared towards adults, but is still a nice bonus. Good stuff.

Delightfully imaginative, a purely splendid experience for the whole family...

With the birth of my daughter right around the corner my wife and I have been doing a lot of thinking about the books we want to read to her. Now, despite the fact that `Charlottes Web' may not necessarily be a book she'll be read right out of the womb; it was the first book that came to my mind. The greatest thing about this literary classic is that it's approachable to all ages, boys and girls, and it serves up some of the most memorable scenes in children's literature. I can still remember reading this book as a class when I was in Grade School and I loved every minute of it.

The story, as some have already explained, revolves around Fern, a young girl who is devastated when Wilbur, the runt pig of the litter, is going to be killed. After pleading with her father to spare him she's again devastated when her father forces her to sell Wilbur to her Uncle only to have him plan to fatten Wilbur up in mind to slaughter him. But then Charlotte comes up with a plan to save Wilbur's life, and well, the rest is classic!

To anyone familiar with the story of Wilbur the pig and the girl who loved him, this edition will be a must have for the family. Filled with wonderful illustrations that bring this tale to life, this is sure to be a favorite of everyone in the house, the children as well as their parents. My wife and I are always talking about how we want our daughter to watch cartoons that we can enjoy and read books that we can stand, and let me tell you, I have yet to meet someone who doesn't absolutely love `Charlottes Web'.

One wonderful aspect of this book is that it's not just about a pig, for, like a lot of children's book destined to teach morals and goals and principles, `Charlottes Web' succeeds with flying colors to teach children the power of love, acceptance and being yourself. `Charlottes Web' shows children that they can be anything, do anything if they put their minds to it. E.B. White hand wrote a masterpiece here, a beautiful piece of children literature that's loved by all and worth every penny.

Even if you already own a copy of 'Charlotte's Web', the Signature Edition is a must-have item!

Fern Arable has always been an animal lover. However, she had never saved a pig from an untimely injustice until the day she learned that her father planned on shooting a runt, just because he had been too small. Begging her father for a chance to save the little oinker, Fern wins the battle, and is given the opportunity to raise the wriggling piglet as her own. Promptly named Wilbur, Fern falls in love with her new charge, and can't get him off her mind, even while at school. But as he grows bigger and bigger each day, things begin to change. Soon, Mr. Arable refuses to allow Wilbur to sleep in the house, then her father reprimands her for taking Wilbur for walks in her doll carriage. Soon, Fern is forced to sell little Wilbur to her Uncle Homer, where Wilbur is quickly swept away, and forced to live. Fern doesn't mind the arrangement as long as she can still see her beloved friend. But when she learns that Uncle Homer plans to fatten the little piggy up and then kill him, she's devastated. As is Wilbur. Confiding in the other farm animals, Wilbur begs everyone for their help in saving his life. Sadly, none of the animals seem to know what to do to keep Wilbur from meeting his fate. No one, that is, except for an intelligent spider known as Charlotte. Charlotte lives right above Wilbur in his tiny alcove, where she spends her days and nights weaving beautiful webs. When she decides to help Wilbur by spelling words and phrases such as "Some Pig" and "Terrific" in her webs, the county becomes interested in visiting this amazing pig, leaving Uncle Homer in awe, and giving him the chance to spare little Wilbur's life.

CHARLOTTE'S WEB has been one of my absolute favorite stories since I was 6-years-old, which is why this Signature Edition of the tale instantly caught my eye. Yes, it is the same tale that we all know and love from years ago, however, this particular edition features some exclusive content that is absolutely essential for CHARLOTTE'S WEB and E.B. White fans. Aside from the gorgeous, colored illustrations by Garth Williams; and the wonderful large font of the story, this lap-sized edition features an entire Afterword by Peter F. Neumeyer, which features black and white photographs of E.B. White himself, as well as a brief biography about the famed author, pictures of his home, information about his other books - such as STUART LITTLE and THE TRUMPET OF THE SWAN - and even has an exclusive area devoted to the illustrator, Garth Williams. Even more interesting are the illustrations of Zuckerman's Barn - which White modeled after his very own - and the various first drafts and changes to the tale that did not make it into the actual novel. Each and every one of these Afterword pages is an absolute marvelous addition to the tale, and gives the reader an even more in-depth into the man who created an array of lovable, unforgettable characters. Even if you already own a copy of CHARLOTTE'S WEB, the Signature Edition is a must-have item!

I never read this book as a child because I was a teenager when it was published. Our book group decided to read a good piece of children's literature for a change and we chose Charlotte's Web. We all loved it. Those who had read it as children welcomed the chance to read it with adult eyes. Nobody gave it less than and eight (out of ten) and I gave it a 9 1/2 because in my mind it is an almost perfect book that succeeds on many levels. It is amusing, instructive and also makes you think about how important values are in a life well lived. I hate spiders, but was almost in tears when Charlotte died. I guess I'll have to think twice before I try to squash one. I hope the new movie doesn't cheapen and trivialize this real treasure of children's literature.

Charlotte's Web Signature addition brought back all my childhood memories. The illustrations bring to life a story that is touching, imaginative and provides entertainment for all children, both male and female. The presentation of the book itself captures your attention with great use of colours which is continued throughout the book. The wonder and delight that this book has provided for my niece and nephew allows us as adults to see childhood innocence and wonder at its best.

HomePage 3.0 is an older program but it has the advantage of being cross-platform (meaning Mac and PC) on the same disk. I have made a dozen websites using it and it is a wonder to behold. Newer standards have overtaken the WWW so not all of the new functions are integrated into it.

It has a first rate tutorial on the disk which can help you to make perfectly decent small websites. However, this book is the perfect manual to go along with that tutorial. In fact I think it is essential to own this book so that you can address problems as they arise without having to bounce around between the program, the Help, and the tutorial.

As with most of the Visual Quickstart series, this one is filled with pictures so that those of us who cannot grab the meaning from the text alone can guide ourselves with the screenshots showing what the text just spoke of.

I recommend both this program and this book to my students who wish to build their own websites, even though both the book and the program are out of print.

This book delivers on its promise.

This book was very helpful getting me up and running and doing what I wanted to do--make my website. It was also helpful in stepping me through publishing my first database on FileMaker Pro. I would reccomend it to anyone wanting to use Home Page. I should say that Home Page is a very easy to use, but powerful program. It is quite intuitive. This book just happens to make it even easier to use. I just kept it on my desk and if I hit a snag it would unsnag me.

I found this book very understandable and full of explanations. It summarized much of what the help menu in Claris Homepage offered, but showed detailed diagrams and steps on how to complete the functions for most web page design. I recommend this to any beginner with Claris Homepage to use as a basis to learn the program and understand the buttons and capabilities of the total program.

This is not a childrens' book, and I'm not 12. If I were to teach a course on 'Color Graphics for Web Page Design' I would probably use this book as a text. I wish I had read it before taking a course in Adobe Photoshop, where it is all too easy to get bogged down in programming detail.

Computer Color Graphics takes some essential matters like screen vs. paper, CYMK vs.RGB, vector vs. raster graphics and explains them clearly with good insight and good examples.

What the book is leading the reader towards is the design of web pages. Very sensibly there is a discussion of the ten or so major graphics and publishing programs.

This is a book that can be read profitably many times

One Book Worth Buying

Tired of buying highly enigmatic technical books and realizing just how lost you actually are trying to master today's graphic software?

Well Harry Waldman has put an end to that all too familiar scene for computer newcomers and pros alike. In Computer Color Graphics, Waldman works as a personal mentor through this easy, fun, non-technical ride into the concepts that compose the world of digital color graphics.

Business professionals will love the book because it explores the concepts and tools with programs like QuarkXPress, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, and many others. Waldman removes the mystery of digital imaging by breaking down the basics: dots and pixels, vector and raster graphics, CMYK and RGB, Web technology, and much more, into non-technical, easy to follow language.

New-comers will love this book because of its layman's terms and full color illustrations that expand comprehension. Computer Color Graphics unlocks the secrets of enhancing or manipulating photos like a pro, producing websites and newsletters, and giving dynamic presentations.

Imagine understanding the software used by designers and printers simply by reading this book. Becoming a part of today's world of color communications has never been so easy!

Finally! Concise, useful instruction!

Industry leaders sometimes share their experience with the rest of us, but rarely is such a publication as welcome as this work. Waldman cuts to the chase, demystifying every major tool currently used by graphic designers, layout artists, web-authors, presenters and more! Each category contains a well edited overview that is sure to raise the skill level of novice and pro alike. The illustrations (tons of them!) are purposeful, well placed, and immediately demonstrate the concepts at hand. I've been in the graphics business for almost 3 decades, and can't imagine a more useful tool as a combination tutorial/reference source. With computer graphics spinning off into so many specialties, even a seasoned professional will find this a useful quick-start for tackling other segments of the industry.

You don't have to be in the business to make use of this. Family photos, community organization web-sites, newsletters, etc. can all be improved with tips in this book.

Credibility is on the author's side, since the Publisher is the GATF (Graphic Arts Technical Foundation) Press.
