An excellent yoga book for every child-oriented family has finally been published. Children can understand it by themselves or with friends and adults.

This well illustrated book is clearly written on spacious pages. The real value of knowing yoga in today's fast-paced world is presented in specific ways. For example, positions for warming up or cooling down in sports such as gymnastics, soccer, snow/skate boarding, surfing, wrestling, etc. are presented.

Other chapters of interest are on double yoga (mirror-imaging with another), yoga games, and relaxation technics for stress-reduction in test taking, social situations, and competition and/or performance situations.

Iwould highly recommend this book for families with children.

This book has been a true inspiration as a mother, drama teacher, and storyteller. It blends movement with story in such a gentle and touching way, and has now helped me to create a whole new approach to warm-up exercises in drama classes with children aged 3-10. More and more teachers and parents are understanding the benefits of using yoga in classes and at home, but many people say it is hard to get children to focus on the poses for long enough. When reading this book, I thought, "of course, as a storyteller, why had I not thought of this?! Tell a story as you incorporate the poses!!" The illustrations are beautiful, and the story-poems divine. If you are a parent or a teacher, this book is a must if you would like to nourish the imagination and body.

Tootson and Tesoro in Global Performance Measurement Systems and companion CD provide practical insights into the often misunderstood field of performance measurement. Many business people talk a lot about measuring the effect of training, consulting, and other expensive corporate initatives this book shows you in detail how to do it. I'd strongly recommend this book to anyone who has to sell "big ticket ideas" internally or externally and wants to differentiate themselves from the superficial. It's about time we had a business book that wasn't generic pablum.

As with any "Cookbook" the results of your efforts will be directly proportional to the quality of the ingredients you use. This book provides clear guidelines and examples on the right ingredients and how to measure them. It is easy to follow - providing clear, concise methodolgy for global performance metrics which are applicable in a variety of business settings.

A great resource! Total Performance Measurement "A to Z"!

As an 18 year Human Resource practitioner, both on the corporate and consulting side, I've had to sell "big ideas" in many companies to numerous business leaders. This book contains, under one cover, a complete, thorough and tested methodology to form the building blocks to not only sell the ideas, but also to measure the outcomes for even better future programs.

The tools provided in the CD are excellent and make the book a valuable resource that you'll find yourself refering to time and time again. I'd recommended this book to anyone serious about making an impact from a Human Resource perspective or any "soft science." A must read in today's competitive environment where companies don't have time to not get the most bang for the buck.

Great resource for HRD/HPT practitioners and trainers
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-17
The book is a great resource for practitioners and trainers (especially those who are just starting) who are familiarizing themselves with the scope, processes, and issues involved in planning, developing and implementing a performance measurement system. It provides a comprehensive overview of performance measurement and related terms as well as illustrates succintly the relationship between theory behind measuring performance in business and industry, and practice related to performance improvement. The four steps that the authors outlined as their cookbook approach exudes simplicity of ideas that anybody involved in training and development, HRD, etc., can relate. The use of a case throughout the book provides a common thread that grounds you, the reader, to reflection and application mode as you attempt to make sense of how the analysis tools can be used in your own practice. Definitely a good buy and a great addition to a consultant's library. For those who are thinking of consulting or working in areas involving performance improvement, the book is definitely something you need to have -- great "how-to" content, usable tools, simple layout and easy to read.

The definitive EKG workbook and CD-ROM
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-03
Good news. You can stop contemplating which EKG tutorial you want to purchase. Through med school, residency, and cardiology fellowship I had used 9 EKG texts/CD-ROMs prior to finding Dr.Rimmerman and Jain's . Once I came across this incredible CD-ROM and workbook, I used it exclusively in preparing for the EKG portion of the Cardiology boards.

At the exam, many others were discussing the difficulty and time constraints of the 2 hour EKG module. Solely with the help of Dr.Rimmerman's text, I was finished in half the allotted time. By following the text/CD ROM of Dr.Rimmerman, I scored well into the top decile. Dr.Rimmerman is to EKGs as Netter is to medical illustration.

This text/CD-ROM had to take years to assemble and painstakingly reviews ~630 EKGs in three sections that are well delineated according to difficulty. The reader evaluates the hardcopy EKG and then codes his/her answer into the CD ROM. This is followed by immediate, constructive feedback through multiple channels. First and foremost, there are colored arrows that are displayed over the computerized EKG. Then there is an easily interpreted paragraph or two describing all of the intricate details of the EKG. There are also hyperlinks to similar findings in other EKGs. It kills me that I was unaware of this text as a student or resident. Quite simply, if you want to learn EKGs this text is MANDATORY.

This book is without a doubt for all levels. Allied medical personnel, nursing students and graduates, and medical students all the way up to electrophysiologists have so much to gain from this text. Drs.Rimmerman and Jain, through their meticulous attention to detail, have created the definitive workbook/CD ROM for learning EKGs. I am forever grateful to their endeavor.

This is an excellent resource. I am completing my cardiology fellowship, and this book/CD has quickly improved my ECG reading skills. The adage "practice makes perfect" is unfortunately not true for interpreting ECGs. If you are incorrectly reading ECGs, then you reinforce errors. This program includes about 700 ECGs in three sections, ranging from the basics of normal sinus rhythm to acute myocardial infarctions with left bundle branch blocks. You simply enter your interpretation of the ECG, and the CD checks your conclusion. It points out salient ECG features, further describes the findings, and provides hyperlinks to related ECGs in order to reinforce teaching points. "Perfect practice makes perfect." When used correctly, this tutorial reinforces the subtleties of ECGs and will enhance your clinical skills.
I recommend this book not only for cardiologists, but also for nursing students, nurses, medical students, residents, and general internists. Interactive Electrocardiography is my primary reference for studying for the ECG sections of the cardiology boards, however, it was the tutorial I needed as a medical student. I give this program five out of five stars and think it is a priceless resource for learning to read ECGs.

Perfect for transitioning medical students
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-24
This book proved to be an excellent book for transitioning from the realm of academic medicine (2nd yr med) to clinical thinking (3rd year med). The emphasis is on common diseases and simplified approaches, and thus serves as one of the few truly "readable" texts that simultaneously give a perspective of how to think from a case-based scenario. The format of the book in background/case/questions is perfect for emphasizing key points, and studying the cases strongly reinforces your understanding of disease by presenting you with a good "archetypal" model to work from. When used in conjunction with more detailed books for further study, one can gain a strong general grounding in common problems encountered in internal medicine. I would have awarded this book 5 stars if it included pictures (none at all). While this book is likely too simplistic for actual practicing residents/physicians, it is perfect for the transitioning medical student seeking a solid grounding to work from.

A great study guide
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-12
This book covers the major subdivisions of internal medicine by providing approximately 10 cases per subject. First, it presents the case, then there are several questions afterward that get you to start sorting through the facts of the case in your head. The next section will go over each of those previous questions with great explanations and discussions.

This book has the best discussions of any case-based text I've come across for internal medicine. Most other books only leave you asking yourself even more questions because they don't provide an adequate review.

My only complaint about this book is that there isn't more of it.

Joey Moses is a well-written account of a stray-turned-working-dog. Although aimed at a younger audience, it is enjoyable for people of all ages, dog lovers or not. Ms. Duncan's style of writing engages the reader immediatley and will not let go until the end of the book. The story is part adventure, part success, and all highly entertaining. It shows how persistance, love, and hard work can really pay off in the end. Joey Moses is an inspirational story that I would reccomend to anyone who likes to read.

When I saw this book I was trying to decide whether to train my own service dog or remain on a service dog provider's long list. After reading JOEY MOSES, I was encouraged and informed about the challenges and the hope that lied ahead. While I cannot claim that the mixed breed I rescued and trained to become my service dog will EVER win a national honor such as Joey did, I love my service dog partner and am grateful there was a book available like Susan's to encourage me along. An informative read about what these great dogs do for individuals with disabilites as well.

susan, who works for the delta society®, and knows all there is to know about service dogs, writes from personal, as well as professional, experience. a book not to be missed.

Written by veteran dog trainer JoAnn Dahan, Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes is a guide written to teach young children puppy training basics. Housebreaking, sitting or lying down on command, coming when called, and learning to stay or heel when told are all covered. The very simple instructions and color photographs make Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes quite easy to understand, and the accompanying DVD makes step-by-step instruction crystal clear. Enthusiastically recommended especially for young dog owners. "House Breaking: When you wake up, take your puppy outside. Once outside say, 'Hurry, Sam, hurry.' This will help your puppy go potty. When your puppy goes potty say, 'Good Sam.' (Remember to use your puppy's name.) A puppy will have to go potty shortly after you feed him."

"Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes" is simple to read. All the words are appropriate for those beginning to read. On most pages, the message is simple and concise. There is a list of tips that are in bullet point form.

There are two different puppies shown throughout the book. A little boy and a girl are shown demonstrating the training tips.

Repetition is used throughout "Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes." J.T. asked at one time if he was reading the same page over, because the concepts are the same in many cases. Throughout the book, it is stressed that the children/trainers must develop a relationship with their puppies.

J.T.: "This book is good. I liked it. My friends would like it, too. I do not have a puppy. I have a dog. I am going to train my dog with this book."

This book can be used with preschoolers, also. The pictures are attention-grabbing. The concept is simple. There is a lot of repetition.

I wish there were more children involved in the photographs. There are only two children in the book. To show some diversity would allow all children to relate more to the trainers/children.

JoAnn Dahan and photographer, Walter George, created a wonderful book. "Kids Training Puppies in 5 Minutes" is not only effective in teaching children; it is also enjoyable to read. This book will teach your child the responsibility they have when they have a puppy. It also will help your child create a bond with their pet.

The ease and enjoyment of the book, even for adults!

Dr. Gordon's pioneering book "Group-Centered Leadership" was published in 1955. Later he wrote best selling "Parent Effectiveness Training," highly praised Teacher Effectivess Training and this leadership book. I still believe Gordon is one of the most influential thinkers on the topic of working well with others. His "No-Lose" method was later re-invented as the "Win-Win" method of problem solving. Learning his active listening method and using it for the past 30 years has been the most valuable tool I've had in becoming a successful parent, spouse and business person. I've solved many problems by doing nothing except listen to others. I've also mediated many crisis situations for global companies and health organizations by teaching and using active listening with those involved in the conflicts.

Learning Journeys is such a pleasant book to read. This book is personal. It¹s personal essays by some of the great management and business leaders in the world. In the book, these leaders reveal the life-changing events of their lives. There are some sad stories, some funny stories, and some spiritual stories: some of the stories are business-related and some are totally personal. What struck me so much about this book is that it reveals the human side of business, something that is so often forgotten.

As an internal consultant in a very large organization, I was thrilled to find this book and could not put it down until I finished it. Senior leaders are expected to be the fount of all knowledge, work in a high-pressure environment, never lose composure and NEVER let them see you sweat! It is, of course, rare to devote any part of a business day to asking the kinds of questions posed in this book. We are using it as a pilot program for leaders to discuss and discover who they are, rather than just what they do.It has given us an opportunity to talk about the very personal issues that a leader must address, and they have taken to it with great enthusiasm. Finishing this book, you are not left so much with the impression of the "guru's wisdom" as you are left to reflect upon your own wisdom. Great book.

From Stephen Cover to Dave Ulrich, from Marshall Goldsmith to Robert Eichenger, these individuals have done much to shape current thought in the areas of organizational development and leadership.

The book is divided into eight different categories, including what were in my opinion the most insightful; "Unlearning what you thought was so", "Pain is a great teacher", and "Seeing yourself as others do". What makes this such an interesting read is that all these short essays within the eight topic areas reflect very personal insights into the people themselves. What events helped them learn and grow, what successes, or failures, helped them become who they are today?

We are given a rare glimpse into some very real personal experiences, in which we all can relate on some level. I was struck time and again at just how "normal" these leaders are, and behind the names, the publications, and the prestige of being well known and a leader in your field, are some remarkable stories of struggle and perseverance.

Highly recommended, but not for the organizational wisdom or business tips, but rather for the humanity and depth of the personal testimonies. We can all benefit from the wisdom of others whose own lessons learned can be encouraging and timely regardless of where you may be on your own journey.
