This is not just a book for Corgi owners (although if you are one, you will see your dog in Annie) but for everyone who has ever owned, loved or wanted a dog of any breed(s). For the new puppy owner, it is an absolute must. As "two books in one" Puppy Kisses is half puppy-training manual and half dog story. Although the puppy-training leaks into the story, and dog story leaks into the training, Puppy Kisses is laid out beautifully and is easy to read and entertaining. I would not want to "break in" a new puppy without this book!

Mailorder Annie teaches us all a little bit about love. If you've ever owned a dog, you probably know what a "heart dog" is. Each of us probably has one. Annie was Howard's, Molly was mine.

The book is a wonderful romp through the life and times of a dog and her people. It's also a must for not only potential Corgi owners but any potential dog owner. While of great value for the dog owner, the true value is to those of you considering a dog. This will tell you if a dog is right for you.

And it will tell you if a Corgi is right for you. Corgis are a tough breed and you really have to be up to the challenges. We like to say that ours are "too smart for our own good" and that we're "out numbered, two to two"

A Must for new puppy owners

Wonderful book with many common sense tips for the new dog owner, but do be prepared with tissues as it will make you cry. It will make you laugh as well though. I wish I had bought this book before I got my puppy

As an owner of two lovable welsh corgis and past owner of one who is enjoying life over the Rainbow Bridge (probably frolicking with Mail Order Annie) this book was an absolute joy. The personalities of Corgis are so similar and yet each had its own quirkiness. The story of Annie's demise was so similar to what we experienced with our Indy it was a stirring and poignant memory. Indy also died in our arms on the way to the vet. Indy was also bred at Terenelf. I hope everyone has the experience of life with a dog, it is as rewarding and joyful as Mr. Weinstein beautifully illustrates.

I couldn't ski without it
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-26
Years ago I ran into this book in my local book store (long before Amazon.com) and bought it. I had taken 2 ski lessions in my life and got started downhill skiing later in life, perhaps I was in my forties. I struggled along with the green and easy blue slopes, but the majority of the mountain was not open to me. If I tried something more difficuilt, I would fear and fall. No matter how hard I worked the green slopes, I just wasn't getting any better. I lacked skill and confidence.

Then I started reading this book. What struck me was how I felt like I understood what Lito was trying to get into me. I remember copying a couple pages of each section and placing them in a zip lock bag when I would go skiing. I'd pull out the lession points I had selected and read it over and over carefully and practiced exactly what he said to do.

I realized that each chapter was seemly long, but also easy to read and then I realized that what Lito had done was to explain the same lession many different ways and one, at least, was sure to hit me right on. That was his key, and what made the book so thick; he explained it over and over but each time from a different perspective until each reader would click on at least one of the explainations and just get it!

As I write this today, I have just skiied all over Kirkwood's black diamonds, I'm 58 years old and 13 years ago had quad heart bypass. I buy a season pass and ski as many days as my schedule and the weather permits and have for years now.

I looked this book up today on Amazon to see if I could buy it for a friend as I seemed to have loaned my copy out and haven't seen it in years. If you have started skiing, taken a begining lession or 2, you will want to read this book like no other. And if you think that you can't really learn to ski well from a book, just remember this "old man" skiing the black diamonds of Kirkwood and every other place he visits.

Ski Bible

Wow. This is like the ski bible, if there is such a thing. In this book, you learn how to create beginner wedges, transition to wedge christies, progress to parallel, and finally ski parallel dynamically like the pros do. You also learn how to carve and ski in various conditions using simple but effective techniques. There is even a chapter on tactics for Nastar racing. I was skeptical whether this would be a good how-to-ski book when I browse through the book because the illustrations are in black and white and look so simple. But after I read the book cover-to-cover, I realized this is the best ski book I ever read. I found the instruction in the other ski books very hard to remember as they are complex. Time and time again when I'm on the slopes, I would fall back to the techniques and tactics taught in this book.

Amazing!

I am a 29 yr old non-athlete, who started skiing last year and could only go upto the wedgie turns level down the green slopes. Thank heavens I found this book and bought one copy. After reading three chapters, I hit the slopes, pushed myself to moderate and difficult blue slopes. Oh boy! I couldn't believe the way I was skiing. I couldn't conceal the wide grin on my face as I was making those smooth parallel S turns. I never believed one could learn skiing by reading a book. This book works, delivers everything it promises. Thanks Lito, for teaching me how to ski.

Just buy it and read it

This is not just the best book on skiing available, it's the best way to learn, period. I never thought I could learn a sport from reading a book, but I skied for twenty years and never got any better. Then I read this book and in one week I was three times the skier. It was like a new sport. Since then I have encouraged a half-dozen friends to read it, all with the same results. My friend Al neglected to actually read the book for years. Then one time we went skiing together and he was suddenly doing everything right, looking like a new, confident, expert skier. I was amazed, and I remarked "your skiing is SO much better!" He replied "I read the book!"

A must-have for any skiier

Review Date: 2002-03-25
It's happened to just about any skiier. You get over the initial fear of falling, and learn how to get from the top of the hill down to the bottom. You move from the greens to the blues, and get a sense of what skiing is generally about. But you're not *great*.

This plateau is hit by skiiers of all ages and backgrounds. They know the mechanics of skiing, and they know what to do. But they marvel at those people zooming down the slopes effortlessly, as if they were dancing on the snow.

The solution is this book. I didn't even buy it on my own originally - it was given to me by a skiier friend who had read it and loved it. The book made a circuit through our skiing group and soon we all had copies of it. We then lent those out to friends, so they could learn too! This wasn't the basics - how to snowplow, how to stop. And it wasn't complicated either. It was full of great, practical, easy to understand *tips* that you could immediately apply to your own skiing.

Highly recommended!

I have been a manager for many years, and was able to take away information and new methods which I could implement immediately in my workplace. I found the section on personality styles unique and very helpful in dealing with both my employees, and with higher management. This book is fun, educational, and a must read for every manager.

I am a fitness freak and a fitness and dance instructor. I am always looking for a new way to challenge my body and take it to new extremes. This book really gave me an understanding of what I need to do to take my body and its strength to the next level. It is comprehensive and easy to understand. I reccommend this book to all my friends and anyone who is looking for a good fitness trainer but don't have the money for a live one, whether you are just starting out or you are stuck in a rut. He has developed workouts that fit your body type too, which makes it even more of an ideal workout because you can zone in on slimmming your trouble spots.

After reading this I can see why he is known as a fitness guru, and this book has sound advice that can be beneficial to attaining a better body!

You do need to spend some time building your own program sheets using the info in the book. I also bought his "Ultimate New York Body Plan" (it reflects on my obsessive streak that I'd buy both!)and I think that program would be difficult to implement for most ordinary mortals. Buy this one!

Review Date: 2004-10-07
I recently acquired my Network+ certification thanks to this book. It's very well written and does a good job explaining just about everything you need to know.

My only qualm is that Token Ring coverage is a bit light as I was very surprised to find a lot of questions about Token Ring on the exam. While I had enough knowledge to get through most of them, there were some that the book did not cover in this particular topic. You probably won't need another resource for it, just be sure not to underestimate token ring when you take the exam.

Finally, be sure to take the test at the end of the book. This is probably the closest test of the bunch (CD exams with $50 upgrade and all) to assess your ability to pass the exam.

The best part of this book was the last 72 test questions it gave. I did these right before I had the exam and they did a great job preparing me for what I was about to see.

Great for exam prep, not for beginners

I'll get right to it and list the good and bad about this book:

Strengths
1. The book is an excellent exam prep tool, it is organized and laid out with great focus on fulfilling the exam objectives and ensuring the reader is well-prepared. Includes some handy exam tips on the types of questions which you can expect in the exam.
2. It has a very useful "Fast Facts" section at the back which summarizes a lot of useful information concisely, good resource for revising for the exam and for memorizing facts.
3. Has a very good section devoted entirely to TCP/IP.
4. Includes better-than-average testing software which has harder questions.

Weaknesses
1. Considering this is not an 'introduction to networking' book, this may not be a big deal, but this book is definitely not a book for beginners, some background in IT and networking is required to make full use of this book. Many times a new term or abbreviation is used without prior explanation of what it means.
2. Although it was published in 2002, I found some of the information in the book a little outdated. For example I found the OS section to cover a bit too much on the older Windows 98/Me than I like. This maybe a reflection of the fact that the exam covers these 'older' OS too, but I'd like it if it has a more current feel. Also some of the hardware recommendations given in the book feels like it was made back in 1999!

All in all, an excellent tool to help you pass your Network+ exam. I know it helped me :)

Excellent, excellent book. This was my main study material for the Net+ exam and it didn't fail me. Like another review noted, read the Fast Facts! Memorize them, get a solid understanding of various environments with different OSs, and know how to troubleshoot networks (hands-on helps if you are new to this).

Definitely easy if you already started down the road of CompTIA certifications.

Who said it takes a three pound novel to get you what you need? Read Jeb's new book! You will quickly discover this book is not written by a consultant or researcher with book knowledge but by someone that has been there and done it successfully.

The book does away with the fluff and is perfect for busy salespeople and sales managers not interested in wading through a swamp of hard to read words. Discover what professionals in sales, sports and business know. Success is about drill and practice on the right stuff. This book is how to develop yourself using secret powerful principles that will jump-start your career and get you to top performance.

What you didn't learn in school and what your company can't help you with is that personal success is what you must do for yourself. It does not come in a little blue pill or by going to weekend sales retreat climbing ropes. Selling is based on Talent, Skill and Desire and you must be willing to invest in yourself and your own education.

You can read this book in an hour. It will take a lifetime to digest. The genius of this book is in the simplicity and power of the 5 Principles.

Excellent reading for old pros and new sellers alike. A reference guide for sales managers and a must have for any sales library. Jeb's website is a fantastic resource for sellers and sales managers, check out Sales Gravy for the latest in sales strategy, jobs and networking.

Jeb is one talented dude! This is one of those books I will read over and over and over again! I literally could not put the book down and have read it three times already! I love how Jeb simplifies gaining the winning edge. Many people aspire to have that edge, but never take action because they are overwhelmed with having to read a large motivational book. With this book, Jeb gets right to the meat of what you need to have that edge. It is one of those books you can carry with you and read throughout the day, especially if your soul needs a pick-me-up. Just sit down, read it, and you will get it!

The stories of the yearbook club were so motivating. If you put your heart and soul into sales, you will always be rewarded. When he illustrates his first big sales call, he shows that our mistakes can be the best teaching tool. If you haven't purchased this book by now, shame on you! Take action! Once you have done that, get Jeb to speak to your salespeople. What a difference he will make! You will be missing out if you don't.

My 18 month old daughter loves this book. It's a big part of our "pre potty training" reading. She likes the flaps (though has torn a couple off) and definitely "gets it". It hasn't seemed to make her all that more interested in using her potty, but I think it's pretty good for our purposes. I do adjust the words a bit - I say "yes, that's right. Tigers poop and pee on the ground and bury it". If you were having issues with your child pooping in the potty (as I've read many do as part of this process) it makes sense to read the book as is. But for our pre-training purposes I wanted to include the pee part. I'd also recommend the Potty Book for Girls for anyone who's in the pre training process.

LOVE IT!

Not much swing instruction going on here. This book is primarily for the player who can hit good shots and has above average skill but is still putting up disappointing numbers. It's not really earth shattering stuff. You know that by trying for eagles on par 5 you end up brining bogey and worse into play. You know that when you are in trouble the correct play is to just get back to the fairway. If you are like me you just need someone like Raymond Floyd to tell you these things before you listen! He will tell you these things and plenty more in this great book. It's not watered down a bunch of boring anecdotes - just the goods from a guy who knows how to go low.

I am a low handicap golfer who grinds to shoot in the low 70's. Typically, I hit 7-8 greens in regulation. After reading Floyd's book, I played a round and hit 14 greens in regulation. The next round I played in a vicious wind and shot 77. Better than scoring low, these were the two most comfortable rounds I've ever played.

Mr. Floyd's advice is about scoring. There is little about swing mechanics. I will read the first five chapters over and over. After reading these chapters, my mind is calm and clear. If I take this mindset to the course, I am fully confident that I will play my best golf that day.

I own over 40 books on golf. This book is at the top of my list. If I had this book when I was learning the game, I feel I would have saved years in lowering my score. Follow Mr. Floyd's advice and lower your score.

A must read for anyone wanting to improve

As posted previously, this book isn't about swing mechanics, but about playing smarter golf and being realistic about your game. I think this book would be extremely beneficial to the beginning golfer and would make a great gift. It's a quick read and well written. I try to read it a couple of times a year to remind myself to play within my abilities and keep a good attitude.

Highly recommended!

Excellent book for the experienced alpinist! After reading this, I begin to rethink some of my approaches to mountaineering.. tweaking my load, my rack, and food.

For beginners, please read this book with a pinch of salt. Mark is writing from the perspective of an experienced climber and his suggestions are meant for those who have a certain minimum level of experience on the mountains. His advice is good, but beginners may not survive well with some of his more extreme methods.

For those looking to take the next step in mountaineering, this is a MUST READ.

Highly thought provoking and inspiring read for the experienced alpinist

Learn from the best on how to climb hard, fast and high. Personal anecdotes and ideas to help you get to the top and make the most of your time in the alpine. Also read KISS OR KILL by the same author.

Twight tells it like it is without the BS.

This book is a work of art..a running narrative about physique, mental preparation, simple gear choices, food energy strategy and mistakes not to make. Delightful prose describing some unrepeated adventures is mixed with simple, quick 'n dirty advice. This is not a conservative, completely comprehensive guide to repeating some of Mark's famous routes; rather it is guide to teaching yourself and others how to ever get in & out, up & down so quickly that you make it!

I am not a climber, so I am certainly not qualified to talk about big portions of this book. I bought this books because it came highly recommended by a couple friend's of mine in the know. The sections about mindset and training are worth the price of this book alone. Mark Twight writes in a clear, concise and no nonsense way. You might not agree with something he says but you can't argue that whatever he presents is logical and well thought out. I recommend this book to anyone who's job, hobby or live style requires extreme amounts of focus and will power to succeed. Its money well spent and you won't regret it.
