Selling is an ethical profession

The author presents the best thinking about selling. I liked this book for its very professional approach to customer satisfaction and segmentation rather than the link between number of cold calls and number of appointments. The CD does a great job of presenting the basic concepts of the book and is so sensible for those of us that are on the road so much of the time. Basic concept -- get referals by being a professional and dealing honestly with your customers.

From the very first time I picked up the book, it amazes me, how many of the points the author makes, that I was unintentionally guilty of actually commiting.

Initially, I was apprehensive to even speak to a suspect, prospect, or an existing client, until I finished reading the book at least once. I was fearful that if I had not, I may say or do something that would prove fatal to yet another sales call.

In all the years of education, self help books, seminars, and motivational speakers, I have finally found an author who hit the mark for me. Thanks Bill.

Account management for results

Many of the sales 'How to' books on the market are formula based and would like you to think selling was simply a matter of memorizing the right phrases and smiling at the right times. I found Mr. Cakey's book, Same Game, New Rules to be refreshing and from my experience exactly on target for developing the right thought processes for account management in today's fast paced and competitive marketplace. This isn't a book on just making a sale. It's about doing the right things for both your company and your customer. This means profit for your business (not just low margin sales revenue) and a customer that recognizes the 'value proposition' your organization brings over your competition. Logically organized and well written.

When I first read the philosophies in this book, I was excited and relieved. It was what I had always been looking for as a sales professional. Selling, with intention and integrity. I see all the ways that I got in my own way and sabotaged my own sales success. By implementing the insights in this book, I have already closed new business and am working smarter than ever before.

Great tips for any public speaker regardless of the audience size. All of the lessons can be translated to the workplace and your personal life. These principles differ from traditional public speaking training items by giving more abstract advie so you actually understand how to present yourself more effectively.

Terrific content for new and seasoned speakers!

This CD is packed with great tips and advice for public speaking. Whether someone is brand new to speaking, or a seasoned "pro", there is something for everyone here.

I particularly like the fact that the CD includes a lot of interactivity and gives the listener practical tools to practice what they are learning. Mr. Zeoli delivers his topic in a way that is very engaging and easy to understand.

I'd recommend this without hesitation!

Practical, straight-forward, effective...and easy to implement. A must-consider for those who make high-visibility presentations, and a great-to-have for all those who report to you, and from whom you expect clear, concise feedback on a daily basis.

The tenents presented with respect to Public Speaking can be applied to all aspects of intra-department communications. I believe this will help my staff attain reputations for being on top of subject matter, and become the pro-forma "go-to" authorities for our clients and senior-most management.

It is now part of our library, and we hope to bring Mr. Zeoli on-site for more intensive training to a wider audience.

Highly recommended.

Zeoli's audiobook distinguishes itself from any other product in this market in that it's purpose is not to simply teach the listener how to public speak in its most traditional form. What Zeoli is able to leave his audience with is an appreciation of how public speaking is inherent in all that we do. It's a skill that anyone can master and understanding and believing in the 7 principles will help get you there!

I highly recommend this product. Zeoli takes an entertaining and practical approach to delivering his message. All listeners, regardless of age or profession, will benefit.

This book is so fantastically written - B. Allan Wallace sheds light on the Seven Point Mind Training like no-one else. He uses modern language to explain this ancient wisdom, and shows how the dharma really can be brought into every part of our day, not just the moments when we are sitting quietly in a cushion. Having seen on Amazon how many other books he has written (does this man ever sleep?!)now my biggest problem is deciding which of his books I should buy next...

So you noticed Wallace wrote two books on the Mind Training . . .

Realize they are two very different books! If you are looking for something to benefit your practice then "Buddhism with an Attitude" is the way to go. Although repetitive at times, this itself is helpful, and it is written in a more instructional tone. If you feel your practice has fully matured (lucky you) and you are simply interested in a concise, more academic exposition of the seven point mind training, then "The Seven-Point Mind Training" is the one for you. Also, for being more condensed, the "The Seven-Point Mind Training", will be the book you will want to carry around once you are familiar with Lam Rim practice.

I have had mixed reactions to this author's material in the past and so have others. However, I found this book to be extremely practical, well-written, balanced and applicable to a modern context.

B. Alan Wallace has very impressive credentials, but for some reason, I feel he missed the mark with some of his earlier books or at least didn't hit a homerun. This book is one that I can wholeheartedly endorse.

In short, what the intention of the book is to make the teachings and slogans of Atisha accessible to the average aspirant living in the world. It provides a good interpretation of the teachings on training the mind to be more compassionate and provides a context for these teachings.

There is good commentary on various slogans that are the central point of the Lojong teachings and some good direction for performing Tonglen meditation. Tonglen is called "taking a receiving." The essence of it is to experience a flash of absolute bodhichitta (unconditional love, infinite space, emptiness).... and then commence taking in suffering and breathing out light, compassion, love, etc. This is a very crude description, but it's a type of meditation where you focus on particular and specific pain that you can identify with and increasingly make it more universal in order to develop your mind in the direction of compassion.

This is also a very manageable book and fortunately, Mr. Wallace does a better job of explaining Tonglen meditation than I did above! As a companion to this book, I would also purchase Good Medicine: How to Turn Pain into Compassion with Tonglen Meditation or even better The Pema Chodron Collection: Pure Meditation:Good Medicine:From Fear to Fearlessness.

The resources above provide additional information on Tonglen, guided Tonglen practice, lots of useful practical information on developing the mind, compassion and using everyday events as the stuff for a meaningful spiritiual practice. Mr. Wallace's book compliments this material and brings additional depth to it. You can also find additional resources under my listmania lists.

This Computer-Based Training (CBT) is without a doubt the best course (live or e-Learning) I've ever taken. Complex processes are explained in a clear and easy to understand fashion. The extra materials are worth the price alone (i.e. the virtual PC image, the code samples, the PPT decks and user's manual). My company provided Microsoft training in-house but I got 10 times as much from this DVD in much less time. This course was so good I suffeered from seperation anexiety when Andre finished the training. DESPITE WHAT OTHER REVIEWERS SAY, DO NOT BUY THE "SharePoint 2007 Fundamentals: Interactive Training Course (DVD-ROM)" SINCE ALL OF THE MATERIAL (AND MORE) IS INCLUDED IN THIS PACKAGE.

This is the best CBT I've ever used.
Before stating it, I was completely new to SharePoint.
After completing a half of the course I became rather proficient in my current project (customizing Microsoft SLK --SharePoint Learning Kit).
.
I strongly suggest downloading a disk image with preinstalled SharePoint and MS Visual Studio2005 to be run inside of VirtualPC (there is a link to company's web site with that file).
Playing along with course material helped me a lot.
It's worth every penny.

The presentation covers from set up to detailed development of lists, eventhandlers, and work flow. There is a load of information in the presentation, the presentations are then followed up with demonstrations. The DVD has a lab manual that can be used as a walk through after the demos to do the same things yourself. The DVD also has sample code and various SDKs for information on Sharepoint. The price is woth the sample code in itsself. The presentation is split up in easily accessable segments to review and re watch the segments you need to use as a refresher.

The book appears to be geared to the Middle School High School athlete. Don't be fooled!, Mr. McDaniels is actually giving very good advice for everyone on how to not be taken advantage of and how to succeed in spite of what life hands you. He shows how just about anyone can succeed, IF they put their minds to it. He uses his own life and stories from his and others successes as easy to understand examples for the reader. He shows how the only thing that is holding us back is ourselves and that we cannot blame anyone else for our own lack of initative or lack of planning.

An excellent book for everyone for everyone to read and practice, and he shows that it is possible for any one to succeed, if they want to and won't take no for an answer.

These cards are a terrific workout aid. With them, I can select just those exercises I have time to do, or I can divide up the workout into different parts (lately, I've been doing upper/lower/core in rotation). The instructions on the card are very helpful for checking form. I wish there were supplemental decks; I'd buy those too.

What is great about the deck is that you can pick and choose the cards with exercises you feel you can tackle at a given time. It works especially well for the periods I can't manage a full workout but know I have to do something to stay in the game. I particularly like the "Four for Life" exercises. Along with these and a few from the warm-ups and cool-downs, I select 3-4 from the lower, upper and core groups, and I'm good to go. Very practical, easy to use, and the colors and packaging are beautiful and inviting.

Portable Gym in a Box
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-11
"Strength Training" is like a mini-portable gym in a box. The 52 cards take you through a series of exercises that use a fitness ball (small one you can lift over your head), resistance band (one size/strength will do), yoga mat, exercise ball (size needed according to height), 3-5 lb hand weights and ankle weights. If you have been exercising for years, you may have these items, but you could also use cans instead of the weights or a pillow cover filled with rice for the fitness ball.

Once you have the items needed to follow along with these cards, you will find them very useful in most workout videos. If you have been doing workout videos, a quick glance at the cards is all you will need to start the exercise. The back of each card does give detailed instructions for each picture shown on the front of the cards. I find this pack of cards especially useful and healing when I'm listening to CDs (books, lectures or music) and it makes me feel like I'm making progress physically while I also educate my mind.

Some of the Cards Include the Following Exercises:

Side Stretch
Wall Push-Up
Front Lunge
Alternating Biceps Curl
Side-Lying Lateral Raise
Advanced Planks
Calf Raise
Lat Row

These cards are perfect for travel since they come in their own little sturdy box. Keep one of these with you wherever you go and you will always have an exercise routine. I also loved the Stretching and Reflexology Card Sets.

If you do the Strength Training, Stretching and then the Reflexology Cards all in a row, you will feel strengthened, more flexible and emotionally nurtured. The Reflexology Cards can be done alone with a little creative adaptation.

I was amazed at how easy it was to follow along with the exercises and how good I felt after I had tried most of the cards. If you don't like an exercise, you can skip it and move along quickly, unlike with a DVD where you have to fast forward, etc. You can also organize the cards in any order you prefer for a customized workout.

On the information cards, there are Recommended Sequences so if you like to alternate Upper Body with Lower Body you can take out just the cards you need. I like using all the cards for a full-body workout and even enjoyed discovering a few new twists on some old favorites. If you enjoy working out, you may recognize exercises from Weight Lifting, Pilates, Yoga and Ballet.

Most Resourceful Guide to Raise an Intelligent,Trustworthy Child

This illuminating book is full of wise and valuable advice that are derived from Professor William Maxwell's and his wife Mary Maxwell's life-long research into child rearing, multiple intelligence development and education. It also illuminates the collective wisdom of the world's most successful cultures and modern child-development research studies. This book introduces the unique characteristics of families that produce the world's most successful men and women. Most instructive and interesting to me is the Chapter:PARENTS TO AVOID BEHAVIOUR THAT PRODUCES THE AUTOCRATIC PERSONALITY. Erikson found that Adolph Hitler and Mahatma Gadhi were almost mirror images of each other in a scientific sense. To avoid producing a child like Hitler, and to raise a child like Gandhi, Prof. Maxwell proposes a four-step Interpersonal Skills Training Strategy as the chid grows from 0 to 11-year old.

I just had the pleasure of reading SuperParenting, and I don't think I can adequately describe how much I enjoyed this remarkable book. The authors utilize a very effective technique of presenting many many short chapters, which makes it easy to read and follow. Each chapter is full of useful information but none is so long as to overwhelm you as a reader. I also loved the way Dr. Maxwell and the other authors used examples from other cultures to explain and support their ideas--I fully believe that we have a lot to learn from other people throughout the world on parenting as well as other topics. I found the information in the book to be very thought-provoking as well as filled with a great deal of common sense. As an example, the suggestion that babies be born in rooms with dim light is a very good one, and the explanation makes complete sense. This is a great book for people who would like to become parents, expectant parents, and parents of all ages. I think it would also be very useful for grandparents as well. I look forward to the next book by this team of authors.

We are required to take classes to read and write, to drive a car, to install new plumbing, or to perform an operation, but what requirements are there to have a baby and raise it effectively and successfully? None, except perhaps a fertile, ample body. The accidental human being, a dangerous experiment, has proven to be a costly, tragic endeavor, whereas the designer human being -- going beyond mere material concerns for eye color and body type -- is not only possible but inevitable with books like SuperParenting at hand.

Now, at last, here is a book for parents and prospective parents that goes beyond the obvious instructions of diapering, bathing and feeding. Finally, more subtle needs are addressed as well. The authors have considered every aspect of the precious opportunity that exists when having a child, elevating the experience of parenting to one of the highest services one may render... from the importance of the psychospiritual and emotional climate of the mother and father during the prenatal period to the carefully constructed wholistic environment needed during and after birth, from infancy to adolescence.

Imagine the implications of life in just one generation with a beginning that is as well-planned and thoughtfully prepared as this book suggests. Not only is this book invaluable for those who are in the process of pregnancy, it is also an important book to give to people who are in a pre-parental stage in life. I would hope that a curriculum for high school and college students would include this book. Then I can rest assured that the children of the future will be in good hands, and we will indeed progress as an "ever-advancing civilization".

As the former supervisor of the Minneapolis Police Academy I made Charles Remsberg's books mandatory reading. Nobody has done a better job of explaining the hows and whys of uniform patrol.
If you work as a uniform cop, security officer, or military police officer your education is not complete until you read Charles Remsberg's books.

This book is one of a series of three by CALIBRE PRESS. This series is primarily what my academy traing in patrol procedures was based on. If you don't read these three books you are cheating yourself (and your loved ones) out of some information that could save your BACON! (pun intended)
