Better Than Bullet Points Is Better Than The RestReview Date: 2008-01-20
I have several well respected books on elearning, but their encyclopedic presentation is overwhelming. Jane's book is very well focused, flows topic to topic very naturally and logically, and most importantly, is substantive without dumbing down. And while she covers some PowerPoint techniques, the focus stays on pedagogy and field-tested design. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get their first elearning program right the time. This is your user's manual.
Great book for practitioners!Review Date: 2008-01-16
Excellent for trainers in general not just for PowerPoint users.Review Date: 2008-02-10
Margaret Driscoll's "Web-Based Training: Designing e-Learning Experiences" with CD-ROM would make a great companion book to this one for anyone creating e-learning in a variety of delivery formats.
It's about time!! Review Date: 2008-01-12
I have been to several workshops that promised to teach me to use PowerPoint for elearning, only to spend hours inserting clip art and making text fly. This book shows how to use it to create LEARNING.

Excellent NKJV bible!Review Date: 2005-11-12
Also the type size is very good, I usually read larger print, but this one is very acceptable because the verses are well spread out with meaing there is more space between each sentence, in other words, the verses aren't all smashed together like some bibles I've owned and sold. This also makes for less eye strain and faster reading.
I've owned and do own many bibles, and will have to say that Billy Graham's notes are to the point and easy to understand which can be highly appreciated if you are somewhat confused about some bibles lengthy discussions on theology. It's to the point Christianity in a nutshell!
Another good point about this bible is that the concordance is substantial. On the downside, this bible could have had references in it, that would have made it awesome. But I give it 5 points anyway because I'm so impressed with the thicker paper, minimal bleed through, large concordance and the short and to the point reference material by Billy Graham.
I own the NAS, NIV, NASB, AMP, NLT, GNT, ESV and the KJV and I purchased this one last because of all the bad reports I have heard about it being a poor translation. I have done research on the background of the manuscripts they have chosen, both good and bad research, and am still eager to read it as my sample readings have been very enjoyable. I used to be bent on just picking one translation, the best one, but in many years of studying them all and researching the critics, I have found that none of them is perfect. So I have decided to use several of them to get a grasp on God's word more clearly when I sit for serious study. Since doing so, I have really been blessed. God does protect his word despite man's attempts to develop the "best" translation. Good luck and God Bless.

Fun for Parakeet owners, a Must for Parrot owners!Review Date: 2007-05-10
My second bird Snoopy spent time outside before I got her and is afraid of her own shadow. With clicker training she started enjoying life again. She learnt fast what the "click" means and has fewer panic attacks. Soon, she'll be ready for the target stick. Now I can actually "do something" with my birds rather than just talk to them.
The step-by-step instructions in "The Bird School" by Ann Castro are very easy to follow, and the pictures are worth "a thousand words." To my surprise the book came with a clicker and a target stick!
But reading the book also brought back sad memories. Years ago, I had a friend who always showed up with bite marks on her arms, inflicted by her own parrot. I found the explanation in the "Bird School": The bird was lonely and bored. The punishment for biting (screaming and yelling) was his reward, and that's why it never stopped. I wish a book like this had been available then!
Clicker training is a fun activity for budgies and other small birds. For parrots, clicker training is even more important to socialize them and make life enjoyable for birds and owners alike.

Existence Loves You!Review Date: 2001-11-01
Discourses on Mind Training. This one whispers the Truth. Wisdom you find in words but Truth is in the gaps between the words, in the spaces between the lines. It is a silent, unspoken whisper. Between the lines read, 'Existence loves you' It comes like a fragrance from every page. Osho says it takes courage to find the truth. People are not ready to up their dreams and their dreaming. They are not ready to drop the mind and move into the immediate. Only few people have dared to discover truth...It is risky; it may shatter all that you have known before and you will have to rearrange your whole life. It is dangerous. It may destroy all your illusions, it may shatter dreams. Only Silence communicates the truth as it is. We have God's words and his silence. A Book About Getting Things DoneReview Date: 2000-08-07
James Murphy has written a book about getting things done. His style is informal and accessible ... he writes as if he's sitting across the table talking to you. And he remains focused on his message: the planning, execution and debriefing required to build a successful business or organization.
Getting into this book requires the reader to accept that the skills taught to fighter pilots apply to business. The amazing thing is that they actually do. I've not received this training, but I have been in business for a long time. And the information imparted in this book can help anyone run a business better. From handling 'task saturation' to staying focused, this book provides useful insights in an entertaining way.
If you're looking for a book on the latest theory on business, skip "Business is Combat." If you want to pick up some ideas you can start using immediately to get things done, I highly recommend it.

Finally: THE Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Book!Review Date: 2008-03-02
The single-minded sport focus of the book is very reassuring for any buyer looking for a full treatment of the sport of Jiu-jitsu, as I was. Also it is wonderful that the book does not deal with MMA or no-gi submission wrestling. It is very focussed on what it treats, and it treats it as fully as any book could ever be expected to.
This is a masterpiece of a book and I think it could serve as an excellent model for books treating any other combat sports.

A milestone book on LD childrenReview Date: 2008-02-14
Having met so many other mothers who also have LD children, eventually after the end of WW II, Pearl decided to publish her true story on Carol, which turned out to be her first and sole real daughter, in order to share her own difficult experience with these mothers. Meanwhile she adopted several orphan children including Janice Walsh with her second husband Richard Walsh, a talented editor who published "The Good Earth" very successfully.
In the early days of Carol's youth, Pearl had a great difficulty in being willing to admit that Carol's brain had been permanentally damaged. One day, however, at a small hospital in the United States, an old German doctor privately approached her and explained, though in his broken English, to convince her that her daughter would never grow further. To me, that particular scene was the most moving and unforgettable in this book. For I am a retired molecular oncologist who has been trying to develop, particular during my stay in Germany, the first effective therapeutics for a genetic disease called NF1 (neurofibromatosis type 1) which causes not only tumors but also frequently LD in many young children.

A moving family storyReview Date: 2002-06-10
Jablow notes in her intro that "Child" first appeared as an article in "Ladies Home Journal" in 1950 and was shortly thereafter published in book form. Jablow notes that the book is "a landmark in the literature about disabilities." As such, I consider "Child" a fitting companion text to a book like Helen Keller's "The Story of My Life." Jablow notes that mental retardation "carried a shameful stigma" when Buck first had this story published; Jablow provides further useful historical context for the main text.
Buck writes very movingly of her heartache at the discovery of her child's plight. She documents her awareness of the stigma against people like Carol, and also tells of her search for an institution where Carol's special needs might be met. Buck passionately defends the humanity and worth of the mentally retarded, and tells what her experiences with Carol taught her: "I learned respect and reverence for every human mind. It was my child who taught me to understand so clearly that all people are equal in their humanity and that all have the same human rights."
Walsh's afterword continues the story of Carol. She fills in some of the very obvious gaps in Buck's story. Walsh's contribution to this book is very moving, and includes photos of Carol.
In addition to being a work of historical and sociological importance, I found "The Child Who Never Grew" to be a moving and very personal piece of American literature. For another good companion text, try William Styron's "Darkness Visible," in which the distinguished writer tells of his battle against clinical depression. Also, try "On the Way Home," by Laura Ingalls Wilder; this book has additional material by Laura's daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, and like "The Child Who Never Grew" is thus a sort of mother-daughter literary collaboration.
