The Nightmare Before Christmas Books

This is one of the most awesome soundtrack sheet music books I've ever seen! All of the pieces sound like they do in the movie, and the grand staff notes are close enough to the original melody to sing along to. The key is hard to get used to, but once you do, it's amazing!!

This book is a challenge even for the most experienced pianist. His music is fun and intricate and complex. I recommend this book for anyone who is not only a fan of the movie but a fan of excellent music who is looking for music that takes their knowledge of music theory to the max.

I love all things tim burton, especially the soundtracks to his movies. danny elfman is possibly the most talented composer in hollywood and it baffles me that not all his music is sold as a piano vocal series, since it is so very suitable for just that. consequently I was thrilled to find this little book, and I was not disappointed. it is simple enough for a novice to play along based on the chords, and yet sophisticated enough for the more experienced pianist to get a lot out of the instrument. as has been noted elsewhere, the guitar chords are indeed systematically drawn every tim they occur, which to me is a fantastic idea. every tim burton/danny elfman fan who likes singing and playing the piano should own a copy of this!

the second I got my hands on it, I went directly to my piano and did not get up for the next four hours. that's how great it is to be your very own nightmare before christmas soundtrack!

I'm not musically gifted like the rest of my family; I only took 4 years of violin to get out of gym, but wouldn't know what to do with one if I picked it up today. But I do know that this music/lyric book has every song from "The Nightmare Before Christmas" movie. anyone that's watched it KNOWS that every song is hauntingly, melodiously beautiful, just like any other Tim Burton production. Even if you can't carry a tune or don't know the words, you have to try to sing along. But with this musicbook you can! -at least know the words -you know best if you can actually sing... I would highly recommend this product! Kudos to the Hal Leonard Corp for making it available! :)

There's lot of stuff in this tiny cheap book. It's obviously not aimed at orchestrators but more at the movie fans who expect some nice evenings, singing these excellent tunes.
I give this book a 5 because of the guitar chords which are systematically drawn each time they occur. It wasn't expected, especially as we're dealing with a piano vocal song book, so: 2 thumbs up=5 stars !

Although this book is aimed toward the younger readers, it is the original poem of the Nightmare Before Christmas, so no matter if you are a Burton fan or study literature, this is an essential item to add to that collectio

Hmm, where do I begin... I LOVE JACK SKELLINGTON first off, and this book is SOO COOL! And yes, you can probably tell I'm a teenage girl so far... but yeah, I read this book when I was really little (same with watching the movie) and at first it scared the crap outta me (hey, I was little). But when I got older, I started to realize that this thing kicked @$$. It made me laugh, made me smile, made me cry a little, everything! Best holiday book ever! It's not really a little kid book, but it's not too scary either. The scariest part about it are the drawings, just cuz they're so abnormal. Also... if you haven't seen the movie, make sure you do. But all in all, this is probably my favorite book. GOOD JOB TIM!

I bought a copy of this book a couple years back, only to find my young nephew (only 5 back then) reaching to look at it often when he visited. I've now decided to buy him his own copy of this book, while it's still in print, because I see this movie's "legend" continuing to grow as an annual Halloween classic. Such is the unique and wonderful world of Tim Burton; his style often does not catch on immediately, but it slowly finds its way beyond "cult" viewing and into the hearts and minds of mainstream audiences. This book features a generous offering of pre-production designs (including many of Burton's own drawings) and behind-the-scenes photos, which are fun to look at again and again. A beautifully illustrated book, and fun to own

First time i saw this book, it gave me a shock! It's so beautiful and neat with those complicate stencils! therefore, really want to own one and look at it whenever i like! \(^o^)/

This book is one of the best pop-ups I have ever seen. The graphics are bright and fanciful. If you were fortunate to see the film, you will certainly enjoy looking at this book for many good times to come. The ultimate coffee table book.

This book represents the pure genius of Tim Burton. It is a beautiful and fun book to open. Every page is a story into itself with the delightful grphic pop-ups. A real treat for adults.

This book...is a must for any Nightmare collector. Along with a summarized version of Tim Burton's genious story, the charazters and scenes pop up along with a few movable pieces and "hot spots" that when you touch them something appears!!! The only thing wrong is that it's too short!!

The book gives great descriptions and walkthorugh for the entire game. Plus gives character info for all that you run into,and descriptions for each costume Jack turns into. Bradygames brand is a good name in general.

I bought this for my son, he loves to play the piano and his favorite movie is nightmare before chrismas, so I thought that he would really like this book, well needless to say, I haven't heard him play anything else for weeks now.

I got this book at Disneyland yesterday. It was SO great! I'm glad I bought this instead of a stuffed Sally doll. It was very interesting, and I'm very pleased to see storyboards and the very informative contents of the book, especially the poem of The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, I wish I could've read more of the poem Tim Burton wrote. Then I could compare it to the original poem of The Night Before Christmas. Tim Burton is an exceedingly creative man, and I'm glad he makes stop-motion animation, because I'm SO sick of all the stupid computer animated movies that studios make nowadays. Tim Burton follows his own ideas, and this movie inspired me to be a stop-motion animator when I grow up, alongside with a career as an author.

This book is definitely very illustrative about the process of creation of a film of the caliber of `The nightmare before Christmas'. With a foreword by Tim Burton, the book includes everything related with the making of this stop-motion animation classic. This book is more a documentary about the making of the film; it is divided in three sections (described below) and takes you through the whole process of creation of the movie. It is an interesting document indeed for people wanting to know about the creative process of making a movie of this kind. A perfect companion for the film!

The Film

The first part of the book focuses on the story ans the lyrics of the movie songs, beautifully illustrated with pictures from the movie, designs and Burton's sketches. Some movie facts are also given in this part of the book.

The Art

The original poem by Burton in which the movie is based on is presented in the firt part of the section. Most of Burton's sketches and character designs are here. The design of the sets, the characters and storyboards are well explained and presented in this section of the book with beautiful pictures, colored sketches and original drawings by Tim.

The Vision

In this section we get to meet all the people involved in making this film possible, and a little background on her profiles and how they were selected to partake on this project. Tim Burton, Henry Selick, Danny Elfman, Caroline Thompson, Kathleen Gavin and Denise Di Novi participate with comments and thought about the project.

I bought this book wanting to know more about the making of the movie, but didn't get as much as I'd hoped for. It does include many sketches from Tim Burton, but hardly an from others who worked on the film. Yes, it does include lyrics to the songs featured in the film, all except for the one I was hoping for ( I can't remember the name, but it's the last song in the movie sung by Jack & Sally... "if you don't mind, I'd like to join you by your side, Where we can gaze upon the stars, And sit together, Now and Forever..")
Most of the book is a pictoral reference on the movie, and though I certainly would have loved to see more, it was still a good buy. It's just too bad I didn't get to read anything on the making of the film, or Burton's thoughts on its production.

If you've ever seen Tim Burton's truly excellent stop-motion animation film The Nightmare Before Christmas, then you've probably wondered, "How was all this done?" This book can answer that. Inside you'll find the stories behind the screenplay, the music, the process of stop-motion animation itself, and see some of Burton's original sketches that gave inspiration to one of the most imaginative and outright magnificent movies in the last fifteen years. I'm a huge NBC fan & I collect just about everything that is related to it that I can afford. When I discovered that there was a manga version of the movie, I was overjoyed & purchased it immediately. While I did enjoy the manga, I just didn't get the same rush from the book that I did with the movie. I can't quite put my finger on why (apart from the lack of music), since the book is a very faithful adaptation of the movie. Perhaps it's because the book is told more from Sally's POV than Jack's or because the black & white artwork (while beautiful) lacks the colors of the movie.

Would I recommend this to a friend? Despite not getting the same rush, I would. It's very well drawn & very faithful to the movie. The plot is very clearly done, so it's possible for someone who's never seen NBC (if such a person exists) to read the manga & know what is going on.

If you love Nightmare Before Christmas and manga, you'll love this, too! A unique addition to my son's NBChristmas and manga collections!

The drawings alone are worth buying this manga. It is also in the traditional Japanese format which makes it 10 X more fun to read. The story is nearly identical to the movie which may or may not be a good thing.

If you're a fan of NBC, you already know the story forward and backward. This is just another interesting way to look at the story. The drawings are very nice. I'm not sure if the dialogs match those in the original movie though. Anyway, I'd recommemd adding this to your NBC collection (and play the soundtrack while reading it if you have one).

This is the Manga version of Tim Burton's masterpiece; A Nightmare Before Christmas. It comes complete with Japanese text SFX and English translation and is even published right-to-left! (which is authentic Manga style). I must say I prefer this way to left-to-right publications. The only downside to this Manga was it was more focused on Sally and her, not Jack. I'm a fan of Jack and reading it all about her disappointed me. But I still bought it to see the Pumpkin Kings reign live on.

i idolize the movie so i bought the book and was very happy, it has a different story then the movie so fans will enjoy it...

This is a fun book I enjoy reading to my children. It is much shorter than the movie but its a great quick read before bedtime. Another great book I recommend is The Url King, by Beau Beaudoin. He has that same macabre yet silly style as Tim Burton, also written in rhyme and the illustrations are incredible.

This book is Tim Burton's original version of this story. It is different from the film of the same title. It is basically a long poem, not unlike "The Night Before Christmas" as teh title suggests. The drawings are superb, the story excellently witty, and it is a must have for all 'Nightmare Before Christmas' movie fans, and Tim Burton fans alike. As I say it does differ from the movie, I can't say it is better because it is much more brief and less detailed, but it is by no means worse- just different. A cute, fun story all around! I recommend it highly.

My four year old daughter was introduced to "The Nightmare Before Christmas" the movie version by my brother last year and she loved it. The book,(which I believe came out before the movie) is a less scary version of the story (Santa does not get tortured)...she thinks it is hilarious and wants me to read it to her every night since receiving it as a Christmas gift. The rhyming prose is great for her age group and really keeps her attention. Plus, the illustrations by Tim Burton are really wonderful. If your child is fascinated by "spooky things" like mine, try some other "funny along the same lines books but not really scary" such as "Skelly the Skeleton Girl," by Jimmy Pickering and "Santa Claws", by Laura Lueck.

I love this book. My boyfriend is a huge fan of Tim Burton and all things "Nightmare Before Christmas." I ordered it as a Christmas gift, it got here in time as promised. However, I ordered and payed for a new copy and when it arrived the back cover was ripped and bent. I was very disappointed because it was a Christmas gift and there was no time to return it and get a new one.
