Inside The Tomb Of Tutankhamun is a children's picturebook that tells the true story of the boy pharaoh Tutankhamun, the creation of his tomb, and the discovery of the riches within it that would give people of the twentieth century a glimpse of the wonders of ancient Egypt. Straightforward text, color illustrations, and photographs are packed with information throughout concerning the details of Tutankhamun's life as best as can be reconstructed by history, the incomplete ransacking of his tomb in ancient times, and the expedition that revealed the boy pharaoh's resting place as well as the remaining ancient treasures buried with him and the controversy over the so-called "mummy's curse". A highly educational introduction to ancient Egyptian culture.

An African Hunting Classic

Martin Johnson's Lion is a African hunting classic. The red cover Blue Ribbon edition is the fifth impression, Sept. 1931. Of course, Martin and Osa Johnson went to Africa to film the lions, not shoot them. There is no blood and gore in this account, just an interesting story of an film safari with trucks and Kodak in the late 1920's.
"Many sights that we have seen in Africa still impress us as being unique; but for drama, for power, for sustained excitement, no other experience that we have ever had approached those hectic days that we spent on the fringes and in the heart of the ten million zebras and wildebeeste that made up the great migration of 1928."
It was a world passing away.

The people of Africa have a rich heritage of storytelling. Included in this book of African folktales are a lion who claims to be the father of some ostrich chicks, a brave boy who has a meeting with the wind, a hare who outfoxes a jackal, and a clever boy who is mistakenly called foolish. These are just some of the entertaining characters you will meet who display the spirit of the people.

We loved the stories in this book as well as, the wonderful artwork.

Voltaire has left us an account of a great general that is never dry, always entertaining, and honest. While Voltaire gives Charles his due as a charismatic leader and great general, he seems to have written this book more as a vehicle to expose the King's dark side. Charles waged war for war's sake and is not glorified here as might be the tendency among other writers. Charles was among the most daring, colorful and skillful military leaders ever to take to the field. He was also a reckless, thoughtless, war monger who inherited one of the most powerful countries on earth at the time and in a few years, lost it. His selfish ambitions also cost the Swedish people dearly in lives.

Altogether, a fine entertaining, informative, and instructional read.

What can I say. This book is perfect. Well, almost. Lions are and always have been my favorite animal in the world, with tigers very close to a tie. This book is filled with terrific and fun info on the golden king of beasts(not king of the jungle, it lives on the African plains, DUH!)and the photos are out of this world. In fact, you might even say that the lions in the pictures are the most buff and beautiful felines you've ever seen. Any lion lover needs this book immediately, it gives lions full respect and glory, nuff said! Buy it when you get the chance!

This book will capture the attention of older elementary school students. I would recommend this for grades 3-5. Well-written text complimented with interesting photos.
