We really like Ian Beck's illustrations and so ordered this book. The illustrations are lovely--suggestive, exciting or comforting, as the story progresses. We've been reading this for several years, and my son has recently copped on to the fact that Tom's journey is imaginary (my little one is a realist like his mom). Tom also encounters the brave and clever Katie, making this an up-to-date entertainment for boys and girls. There's a lot of fluff out there for children, but this book feels like a classic to me.

Hunting for Dinosaurs

Very interesting. I work in an office day in and day out and really enjoyed reading about Thom Tansey overcoming inertia to get out of his office and into the field to hunt for and dig up dinosaurs. This is not a textbook, thankfully. I can relate to the author's experiences of learning about dinosaurs from his field work and his research. The book is entertaining and enlightening. As the author points out, dinosaurs were not the lumbering brutes we had been led to believe, as I was taught. Some of them, at least, were probably warm blooded. Some lived in vast herds like the wildebeest in Africa or the caribou in Alaska. Some cared for and nurtured their young, sometimes in nests. I certainly enjoyed traveling with Thom Tansey on this journey of discovery. And I didn't have to even leave my easy chair, though I am now tempted to try a dinosaur field trip myself.

GORGEOUS EXQUISITE BOOK

The book is FILLED with GORGEOUS PHOTOS of ancient Buddhist artwork from around the world with excellent description and history. Better than a National Geographic and WORTH EVERY PENNY. There is an EXQUISITE photo on EVERY page with the paper being very thick and high quality. The book is on the larger side, so none of the detail from the artwork is lost due to being too small. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in art, buddhism and/or history. Bravo to Mr. Lowenstein.

My daughter is 3 years old and she loves to read. She enjoys learning about new things like dinosaurs so she chose this book when we went to the store. The colors are bright, the words are large, it's a "who's that?" and "what's that sound?" kind of book which she also enjoys. It tells you how to pronounce the words: Triceratops, Parasaurolophus, Pterodactyl, and Tyrannosaurus Rex. It's a simple book, but with big dinosaurs words and she enjoys reading the sounds then turning the page to see who's making that sound. I love it when she reads the book and pretends to be each of the dinosaurs.

Perfect Triceratops Beginner

This is a great book for any small child interested in Triceratops. It covers: where triceratops lived (including illustrated map), relatives of triceratops, tricertops biology, diet, predators, and how they came to their ultimate demise. The book also includes a hands on activity and a short glossary. Pictures are really good and clear. The writing is very fact based, but easy enough for even our four year old to understand (in fact, he now knows more about triceratops than most adults probably know). I highly recommend this book for the dinosaur lover in your family.

This book is great, we just got if from our local library, and my son 2 1/2 loves it! The illustrations are amazingly well done and the story is the perfect length for young ears. This book also has a place to store the CD so it's easy to keep track of. I would love to check out the rest of this series!

I found the tiny perfect dinosaur series to be truly wonderful! The books are full of colorful pictures and facts depicted in a way that is captivating to children of all ages. The bones are a real bonus too adding a real dimensional concept. At my son's school, this month's study is dinosaurs. He took the series to school for show 'n tell and the children loved it. His teacher chose to borrow the books, reading them aloud for storytime.

Fiction and Fact, fabulous vocabulary!

My two and a half year old son loves this book. I think I read it to him seven times just today. He has always been a dinosaur fan, but this book really brings the characters to life for him. He loves pointing out each dinosaur in each illustration and telling me their names. When we are not reading the book, he asks us to act out the roles of the dinos in the story. For some reason, I always get to be Tyrannosaurus Rex! I'm thrilled with the book because it is a fun story that also happens to offer factual information about the dinosaurs in it. It's been a great help to our discussion about which dinosaurs were herbivores and which were carnivores. Finally, the vocabulary is amazing, when I hear my son using words like "tantalize" and "serene" I know that the magic of reading aloud is working its wonders! Great book!

Dragons and Dinosaurs! Your kids will love learning more about them.
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-05
This is a book that should appeal to most children in the 9-12 age range in which the publisher has placed it. Kids of that age love dragons and dinosaurs and can't seem to get enough of them; this is evident in all the dinosaur/dragon toys on the market, not to mention the many video games that include these fascinating creatures.

The cover, by artist Andrea Cassetta, first attracted me to this picture-book because I enjoy reading about grandparents interacting with their grandchildren. A good work of art, in its own right, the cheerful cover suggests a warm bond between the little boy and his grandfather. I'm a fan of dragons, too, so the title was another draw for me.

Author Edward C. Miranda took a simple plot about a wise grandfather who's teaching his grandson about dragons and dinosaurs and wove it into a magical story, an educational tool that should be in the classroom.

Highly recommended.

Turok Dinosaur Hunter No. 1 (July 1993 )

COLD BLOOD BLAZING: Turok Dinosaur Hunter No. 1. Based on the old Gold Key comic books this series doesn't fail on the action! It begins with Turok, a native-american from "The Lost Land". The Lost Land is chock full of dinosaurs, ancient people, and time warps. When Turok is transported to today (The Lost Land is ancient) Mon-ark, a "binosaur" and his wife follow to present times too! They attack Turok who is only armed with one of "Mother-Gods" special technical bow and arrows. Wounded, he is pushed off a cliff by the binosaurs, and supposedly falls to his death. Barely alive, he takes refuge in a small South Columbian village, where they nurse him back to health. But elsewhere in Columbia, people are starting to wonder: what's going on? And Turok is also starting to think that more than two dinosaurs came through the time warp.. The story moves along with the anger of, well, a dinosaur, and has some great action scenes! And all of this within the first 20 pages! So get ready for an awesome conclusion! It's your standerd 22 page comic, 32 with ads. The Gold cover is extremly nice to look at, and the paper is also good quality. You can buy these comics at extremly low prices too, although they are semi-rare. They are only hard to find because Valient, the publisher, keeps going under. They have changed names, switched buissnesess, and are overall pretty unstable. If you find extra copies, you should keep them, since in good condition, all Valient comics are pretty much worth the price. The art is very nice, and the detail and dialogue great! Basically it truly is worthy of 5 stars and a grade: A.
