Dinosaur Books

Paul Sereno's book on SUPERCORC is a great way to introduce students to the study of fossil hunting. The text is written to allow most grade ranges to become interested and not lose themselves. The pictures/photos bring to life the featured animal--so much so-- one wants to touch it. What Paul Sereno has done by bringing this "long tail" to the attention of students and parents should be enjoyed my many.

Thankfully, the days are long gone when anyone could seriously propose to build huge dams in a national park or a wilderness area, but as recently as 40 years ago this actually happened -- twice! In this book Professor Mark Harvey tells the story of the US Bureau of Reclamation's proposal in 1949 to build Echo Park Dam in the magnificent canyons of Dinosaur National Monument (Utah), and how concerned citizens got organized and persuaded the US Congress to say No. (There was a repeat ten years later with proposed dams in the Grand Canyon.)

Professor Harvey analyzes the diverse political forces that clashed in this first big campaign of the wilderness movement. He traces how citizens' groups unaccustomed to controversy got their act together and seized the attention of the national public, at a time when few people had even heard of the wilderness idea. He shows how eloquent citizen leaders such as Howard Zahniser and David Brower collaborated, and how a few courageous legislators took up the cause on Capitol Hill.

There were many legislative battles like this one in the years that followed, but this was the first big one, and Mark Harvey tells the story well.

McGowan's idiot-prof instructions proved themselves when me and some friends built this dinosaur in 7th grade. Although I am an avid model builder this was the first time I hade built a model made of things other than plastic. Surprizingly the chicken bones were easy to work with. We finished the model in about two months(working only one day a week). So if your looking to build an unusual model but this book!

For all those dinosaur lovers out there...this one is a must! T-Rex is perfect as we all get ready for the big show of Halloween Events this year. My Toddler and Preschooler love this book. It is a regular during our reading time all year long.

My daughter absolutely LOVES this set. She just got it for her 3rd birthday and she just loves it. It has 10 dinosaur finger puppets that co-incide with the dinos in the book numbered 10 through 1 (Dino #8 is the same one as the one in the book, etc.) and it also has a Scientist finger puppet with a 0 on it. This is a board book that is smaller than the regular book (which is oversized imo) and perfect for carrying around.

She loves the cantor of the sing songy words and just loves to jiggle the book to make the eyes all wiggly. Even if your toddler dosn't love dinos, she or he will just love this book. gladly would I give it more stars, if I had stars to give!

This is a great little book. The pictures are very colorful and interesting. My kids have all liked this book when they were little. My two year old likes finding and pointing to each animal as it comes out of the tent. Also, there is a part in the book where kids can read along..."Come on in".

I hope that TIFFANY DINO WORKS OUT elicits many giggles and laughs from kids...and adults and any dinos still lurking around. I also hope that---where applicable and appropriate---this story will open up discussion on the subject of weight. I was surprised to find that many publishers were reluctant to tackle this topic in a children's book despite numerous compelling statistics showing that almost a third of American children are alarmingly overweight.

In 5th grade, this book seared my imagination. I couldn't stop thinking about it for months. Then, I recently reread it (I'm 29), and was blown away, still, by the suspenseful participation in it. What makes this book so much better than others is it's historical accuracy. It has been the most influential source for informing my knowledge of prehistoric earth. If you or your child want to gain a familiar working knowledge of time from the Cambrian to the Cretaceous, and be able to identify every dinosaur with it's correct time period, habitat, and diet, then this book is for you.

This is a very special book in this series of adventures about a cute little mouse. It's part of a board book set, rather than the picture book set. It's not as long as some of the others and it's a bit simpler, but it's still a nice tale.

This book is about Toby dressing up and then going trick-or-treating for Halloween. The back of the book explains the rationale behind it --- that young children like Halloween, but may be frightened by monsters. So this cute little story provides a nice alternative.

The illustrations are as nice as ever and the story is perfect. Great book.
