Great books for the challenging fours

My daughter went through a tough phase right before she turned four that involved a lot of emotion and difficult expressing her frustrations, anger, sadness, etc. This series of books was recommended to me by her preschool teacher, and she LOVED them. They are very relatable for young kids and also communicate the lessons I was trying to teach her about articulating her feelings versus throwing a tantrum. I'd definitely recommend them.

Mark Hallett provides the eye-catching color drawings which explain the lives and fate of the woolly mammoths. Text recreates their lives, world and habits while the color drawings bring these giant creatures alive - on the page. Good reading skills required.

Superbly written by Barbara Hehner, Ice Age Sabertooth is both an educational and highly entertaining picturebook for practiced young readers. It goes into amazing detail about these powerful and deadly long-toothed predators of the ice age, their habitats, their prey, the probable causes of their extinction, and their surviving feline relatives. Splendid, glorious, dramatic full-color illustrations by Mark Hallett enhance this picturebook presentation of a great and ancient member of the cat family. Ice Age Sabertooth is a simply fascinating and compelling nonfiction book certain to captivate youthful minds and imaginations!

This story asks the reader to feel the inner connectedness between nature and people. The poetry illustrates the history the earth leaves behind makes us what we are today. The descriptions of the landscape and the fossils encourages the exploration of the awesomeness of nature. The story reminds that civilization is not real but that nature is enduring, and that everyone shares this. The evidence of this shared past is a fossil and then later, it comes from the imagination. There is a pride in witnessing nature and understanding the inner connectedness of the world.

A truly wonderful book for children.

In the Days of the Dinosaurs is an excellent first book for achild. This book contains many facts about the world as it wasmillions of years ago and about the dinosaurs that roamed that world. Roy C. Andrews writes this book in a style that is very accessible to small children and in a way that also manages to spark the imagination. When dinosaurs are described they are compared to objects that a small child can understand and see in their daily lives. There are pictures on pretty much every page, definitions, and even a small quiz on the back of the book.

This was the first book that I owned and read as a child. I have had this book for nearly 30 years. With its yellow and ripped pages, crayon marks, and torn binding it remains the one book that I will never forget and will never give away. This book fueled my young imagination and even created a few nightmares. In the Days of the Dinosaurs is the book that I give credit for starting me in a lifelong enjoyment of books. I can not praise this book enough.

This book, Incredible Dinosaurs is ideal for those just learning about the "terrible lizards." With easy to understand text, which is in large print and quality illustrations this book shows dino bones, as well as what the beasties probably looked like. There is one sort of detailed pic. of a T-rex eating his meaty dinner, but that is all part of the reality between herbivores and carnivores.

My kids were into dinosaurs for a long time. There are lots of great books out there, both fiction and non-fiction. This is one of the good ones. Another good one is Dinosaurs by Gail Gibbons. That tells you how to pronounce all those great, long dino names!

Happy reading!

This book is packed full of information. It's very small in size which is nice for a reference book. There was much more information on plants and dinosaurs than what I was expecting. Actually too much for the person I bought it for! But I'm very happy that we have it for future reference. A good book!
