my grandson is an advid reader and likes silly titles and books. he had this book read in one day and asked if he could get more of the series. I told him I'd get them for him. he has a wicked sense of humor and to watch him read and giggle though a story is heartwarming.

Fabulous series

I teach 2nd grade and have met Dan Gutman. I have read most of his books and loved them. The Weird School series has been a hit with my class this year. I have read each one orally to them and they beg for more. I pause at certain places in the stories because they know what lines come next. I'm going to begin the Weird School Daze next.

The text is simple and correct. This book is a perfect gift for all nature enthusiasts and all those interested in paleontology and dinosaurs respectively. Especially recommended for young readers

This is without a doubt my son's favorite book. He takes it everywhere with him and has most of the 80+ dinosaurs names and habits memorized. Five year old says- "Daddy, this protoavis is a lot like the archaeopteryx", or, "Daddy, this dilophosaurus, it's the one that ate Newman in Jurassic Park, he spits poison". The illustrations are excellent, the text informative and interesting.

"New Dinos: The Latest Finds! The Coolest Dinosaur Discoveries!" written by Shelley Tanaka and illustrated by Alan Barnard is a great childrens book for ages 9 through 11. It is well appointed with colorful illustrations and has new dinosaur discoveries within its pages.

I don't usually do children's books for review but this book was striking in its appearence and was well illustrated with believable illustrations and adequate narrative making for a very informative book. If your child likes dinosaurs this is a cool book for them. In the back of the book, there is a glossary of terms for your child. Also, there is a pronunciation guide to help your child with all of the difficult names of the dinosaurs within this book. And, of course, there is an index to help your child at finding the different dinosaurs listed.

There is an atlas within the book with different locations throughout the world of locations where there are dinosaur digs going on today with a brief explanation of what is going on where in the world. This book is current to what the new preception of dinosaurs are today complete with CT scan information scaled to the age level of the reader.

I would recommend this book for the reader of 9 through 11 with an adult to explain where the glossary is for the terminology used. There are Web Sites listed for further study and a recommended reading list of dinosaur books at this reading level. The book is only 48 pages long but there is a lot of information covered in these few pages that will keep a keen mind active for quite a while.

Well illustrated by the top dinosaur artists -- Douglas Henderson, Greg Paul, Mark Hallett, John Gurche, and others -- and quite up-to-date with the latest information, this nicely organized book looks over "what we knew then" and "what we know now." Every young dinosaurophile has to have it

Thank you for bringing these wonderful coloring books to Amazon.com! Year after year, at Minneapolis's Art a Whirl I look forward to finding Kendall Bohn's art studio because of the colorful and intellectual art he produces. Kendall is an artist who has not forgotten our children (and the children at heart) and their need for abstract, creative and fun art. Each coloring book is a flawless masterpiece which makes them a fantastic gift for cultivating imagination. At any age, anyone can color one of these beautiful pages to match any room and frame them for all to admire. I look forward to your continued releases!

I have worked with scott before he became famous and know that he is a brilliant writer. I hope Scott reads this because I have been trying to get back in touch with him to no avail! Scott, if you are reading it's Steve Shepard here and I'm back in Sarasota and want to get back in touch with you. drop me a line. my e-mail is tranquil_union@yahoo.com

I'v e been to the bookstores and have seen a lot of your books and find the characters to be believable and empathetic. Young people seem to really enjoy your style and ability to create surprise, mystery and excite, all the while weaving very grounded principles and morals to the stories.

Great Work!!!!!!

Steven.

Return to the Dinoverse

Review Date: 2000-10-02
In this third installment in the Dinoverse series, the time machine that caused all the chaos in the first two books flares to life once again, bringing three new teenagers and a teacher back to the time of the dinosaurs. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and highly recommend them. These books show young readers the value of friendship, as each teen must put aside their personal problems to help one another, so they can all return to the present day safely. The teens also begin to see their teacher as a trusted friend rather than just another adult authority figure. These books would be great for boys who may not be interested in reading; they contain a lot of adventure and excitement. These books also present good values associated with friendship and "fitting in" with a peer group as a teen.

A book that makes learning about dinosaurs fun for all ages.

Rock and Roar Dinosaur captures the imagination of young dinosaur lovers like no other book has. Children respond to every song, from the title song Rock and Roar Dinosaur to the lullaby Mother Maiasaura, to the jump up and dance finale Dinosaur Dance. It is a colorful, musical feast that makes learning about dinosaurs fun! Parents will love the intelligent lyrics, the artistic illustrations and the wonderful rhythms and melodies. Parents will also appreciate the incredible talent that was brought together on this project, from the writer, Sam Austin, to the musical talent to the illustrator, Amy Appleby, this is a phenomenal piece.

New Dinosaur Book and Tape is Refreshing and Fun!

Review Date: 1999-01-02
Sam Austin's "Rock and Roar Dinosaur" is as wonderful as its name. The book with accompaning tape is educational, colorful, and musically pleasing. Unlike other material available on Dinosaurs that focuses soley on whimsy, this work combines the fun of of that whimsey with true facts about Dinosaurs. The book/tape is a series of songs that each focuses on a different dinosaur. The entire work begins with a prologue that sets the tone and excitement for what is to come. My favorite is the title song, "Rock and Roar Dinosaur". This is a foot stomping, hand-clapping, sing-along number that encourages children to listen and take part. T-Rex lovers will adore, "The One and Only King" which sings the praises of the king of the dinosaurs. The work ends with the delightful "Dinosaur Dance" that is impossible not to get up and dance to.The entire work is worth a look and a listen. Parents will love its catchy tunes, and colorful pictures, teachers will love its educational value, and children will just love it! Treat yourself and your children to "Rock and Roar Dinosaur" a book that is sure to be cherished for years to come!

Indispensible for the specialist

Review Date: 2006-03-09
For palaeontologists with an interest in sauropods, this volume is simply and unequivocally indispensible. Matt Wedel's chapter on postcranial skeletal pneumaticity is a particular highlight, but most of the papers are very valuable. The contributions are on the whole more substantial than those in the recent Carpenter and Tidwell volume on the same subject, "Thunder Lizards", being mostly written by sauropod specialists.

Be careful, though! This is not a book for the casual dinosaur enthusiast: the chapters are academic papers that are heavy going for those without the necessary background.

Favorite with both my children!

I have two daughters, 4 and 2. Both of them have loved the Pop-Up Sea book. My older one wanted "The Sea Book" every night and would identify the creatures and then we'd count them too! Now my 2-year-old (all on her own) asks for the "Walrus Book" every night and goes through the pop-up pictures just like her big sister! The pop-ups are actually pretty durable considering they've been through two children and have sustained only minor damage after being so well-loved!

Fantastic book
