My 3-1/2 year old daughter loves this book! The colorful dot pictures motivated her to use her pencils and markers to connect the dots all by herself. The dot-to-dot activities also helps her with her numbers. And, of course, she loves to find out what dinosaur is revealed once she finishes. I've been known to complete one or two of the pictures myself!

Our almost 6 year old boy will go through these really quickly (and he has 2 younger brothers who will like them sometime) so I cut the pages out of this book and slipped them inside Mead's sheet protectors for 3-ring binders. He completes the puzzles with overhead markers and then when he is done (or makes a mistake) we wipe it off with a wet cloth and it is like new again! He likes mazes, too, so I plan to do the same with the Usborne maze books.

A Children book that seems to shine from the others. If you're having trouble to find a book that wants to attract the eye, this is the one. Big fans of Eric Carle, look no further, don't think, don't doubt, don't even blink... just hit the buy button. And let your child be open to an imagination like none other.

This book is imaginative and fun, as you see incredible illustrations with more than a little color, and a humorous fun twist on how the dinosaurs died. A friend recommended it to me and I am glad they did. The kids I read it to love it and they have not thought about the dinosaurs in the same way since. Awesome book and two thumbs up.

This book is a great resource about the history of the Mediterranean. Attenborouh does a good job in telling about the geological as well as human history. He has to lose the accent though. Get it if you get a chance. Only...

David Attenborouh does not have an accent, though I can understand that a colonial might think he does. It was a truly great TV series for those interested in history.

Whether or not Sir David has an accent is missing the point (in reference to previous reviews). David Attenborough is one of the most unique individuals and does exemplary performances on his productions no matter if it's a television documentary or publishing a book. He surely is an inspiration to any naturalist, or any person interested in life itself. His passion for the natural world is evident in any of his work and it surely does not fail to guide him in this book, which focuses on the natural history of the Mediterranean. It may be hard to recommend any resource simply assuming its quality based on the reputation of its particual producer or author, but David Attenborough is an exeption.

I'm rarely so impressed by a book that I write a review. This one, however, is special. The authors are able to convey a great deal of difficult to understand information in a way that is not only straightforward and easy to understand, but also fun and humorous! It explains evolutionary concepts as it guides you through fossil-finding techniques. It is sprinkled with simple experiments to deepen understanding of each concept. My five-year-old sat through the first 50 pages, then protested when I had to stop to cook dinner. I'm with him. We were both learning and loving it.

I just read Gwango's Lonesome Trail and I have to say it's a really werid and funny story. The pictures are really neat to look at, especially the pink Brontosaurus and the cool looking lizard in the book. The author Justin Parpan is a really funny person, and I can't wait to read the next book he makes. I hope his next book is Gwango part 2. That would be neat!

Gwango's Lonesome Trail by Justin Parpan was the coolest book I've read in a long time. The main character is a gigantic dinosaur named Gwango, and that's why I like this book a whole bunch. I've loved dinosaurs ever since I was three years old, and I would recommend it to any other kid who likes dinosaurs and corny old monster movies!

Here's a fun kid's story with a real sense of American style. Justin Parpan, who grew up in a rural California desert town, sets his story among the unique artifacts of American culture from this area--everything from Winnebagos, to fake Tiki huts, to the huge cement dinosaurs of Cabazon. This is a young illustrator whose work already exhibits great depth of personality, humor, and--above all--talent. And, as if that wasn't enough, at the center of his story is huge, pink, guacamole-eating dinosaur!

He tells this bird that he will help it find a mate, and in his journey he sees the many beautiful things that the rainforest has. He also sees the destruction that cutting down the forest has caused. He wishes upon a star that he could help save the rain forest and it creatures. After Orbit wishes on the star a wonderful thing happens. With a very nice ending, and a great moral this is a wonderful book. There are very colorful pictures, and it also teaches children the importance of saving our enviornment, and why we should appreciate it. I highly recommend this book to anyone that values our Earth.

Buy two of them.

The previous reviews say it all. This book is so engaging that my kindergarten-age son and I both love it. The illustrations are mind-blowing, when you hold them right up to your face and see how a T-Rex could chomp off your head with just a nibble. Other books don't do justice, even when they have the drawing of a human standing next to the dinosaur.

At our school's Scholastic Book Faire, we bought the Life-Size Sharks book for my son, and we bought this Life-Size Dinosaurs book as a gift for his class. When we got it home, he loved it so much that he insisted on keeping both books.

Now we have to get another one, so we can make good on our gift to the class. If you have a school-age kid, save yourself some trouble and just buy two copies. The price is right.

I agree wholeheartedly with the other 5-star review posted already, but have to add that this book is made even better by its great price. This is a huge book, and I almost didn't bother to pick it up at the bookstore because I figured a book this big must be $20 or more. But it is only *half* that, less than $10, which is nearly unheard of for modern kids' picture books. Buy it because it is a fantastic book that will fascinate you and your kids alike, and appreciate that it is a steal at this price.

Great Concept

Luckily for dinosaur fans, there are new dinosaur books coming out all the time. Just when you think you have seen all that a picture book can be, along comes one like "Life-Size Dinosaurs." It's title and concept is straight forward: Stuff each large format page with actual-sized artwork of different Dinosaurs. Many of the illustrations completely fill 4-panel fold out spreads from corner to corner. With an assortment of all sizes, there are dinosaurs small enough to be shown in entirety while others that can only be shown as close-up pieces such as the crest of a hadrosaur or the toothy mouth of a Tyrannosaurus. It doesn't matter that 90% of the critter can't even fit on the page because no book has ever brought us in so close like this before. The effect is a sense of real encounter with dinosaurs. As a bonus, the T-Rex mouth is also printed on the inside of the book jacket with the option of unfolding and hanging it up as a poster. All in all this book is a good example of how kids books are just better than grown-up books!

I just finished listening to this story with my 6 year old son for about the 20th time and liked it as much as the first. Odds Bodkin story telling ability is amazing! Using only a 12 string guitar, and his fantastic voice, Bodkin tells the story of a dinosaur named Little Proto and his adventure with the T-Rex King Geoffory and the Tricerotops Old Wrinkles. Although perhaps not as good as the first Little Proto tale, this is a wonderful tape and you should definitely buy it for your favorite 4-7 year old (or even for yourself!)

One of the best children's audio tapes around!

Review Date: 2002-03-14
My children, ages 9, 5, and 3, (a boy and two girls, none of whom are particularly dinosaur obsessed) all love both the first Little Proto tape and this one as well. Odds Bodkin is such as amazingly skilled storyteller that my husband and I don't even mind it when the kids ask for this tape for the umpteenth time! The story addresses wonderful themes: jealousy of the attention being lavished on a new baby sibling, compassion shown to a former enemy, courage and resourcefulness in the face of fear -- that makes it sound heavy-handed, but it's not at all! Just a good story, wonderfully told, that can serve as a springboard for discussion should you so wish.

This book starts right where the landing Place left off. It was definately the better of the two. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I really like how all of the Reg Danson books are about Biblical things. (Noah's Ark) I recommend this book and The Landing Place to anyone who likes a good book.
