Bear reminds me of the Velveteen Rabbit, only more charming, if you'll believe that. It has its frights, but nothing too bad can happen in a story with a teddy bear as a major character...or can it? I recommend this one for all ages.

This is an absolutely fantastic Halloween story. My kids adored it and have read it every day since we got it. As my son said, "Mom, could that happen to us? Wouldn't it be just great if it did!" Bravo Jennifer Karin Sidford for bringing a great story to kids everywhere!

The perfect way to share your heart... The illustrations complement a touching story for all ages...with very minor religious tones. We share this book every year during the holidays with new found friends, teachers and family. Our girls, now 7 & 4, have this book tagged as a "KEEPER" in their library of places to go without leaving your room.
As long as we can find it in print...we will keep sharing it with others.

"Bear's Trick-or-Treat!" is an original "Bear in the Big Blue House" story featuring mainly the otters Pip and Pop. It's Halloween in Woodland Valley and all the kids are out trick-or-treating. Pip and Pop, however, get an idea when they find that Bear is passing out clam and fish shaped chocolates at the Big Blue House. They keep coming back over and over again, donning a variety of different disguises to fill up on chocolates. But they eventually learn that sharing makes Halloween fun for everyone.

This book features nice illustrations, combined with pictures of the characters from the show. Each page is fully illustrated and the fun and funny text will appeal to young readers and fans of the series.

Engaging essays about a complex man
Helpful Votes: 26 out of 29 total.
Review Date: 2001-10-11
Given the range and breadth of Western music, it is astonishing how often we fall back on the work of this German dude from the late 18th, early 19th century. Many people who find Western art music a snore have Beethoven records in their collection, and the complex mythology that has grown up around the composer and his works barely accounts for how often his works are played. This book, which grew out of a festival of Beethoven's works, provides some really fascinating material. My three favorite essays explored Beethoven and the concept of masculinity (he's typically considered a "masculine" composer for complex reasons), the reason for Beethoven's "scowl" (I won't give it away, but it's amazing), and a long thoughtful reflection on how Beethoven's image was shaped by his death in Vienna, and the public response to that event. If you want a standard bio of LvB, there are plenty of good ones out there. These essays give some non-standard perspectives on the most revered composer in Western culture, and may help you understand why people feel that way about him.

O'Neal's craft books are excellent and based on scripture

I am a former art teacher with an M. Ed. in Art. I also am a church librarian. In answer to my Sunday School teachers' need for craft resource ideas, I selected Trafton's books "Before and After Christmas" and "Before and After Easter" for them to use as resource books. These satisfy a real need for Sunday School crafts based on scripture. Each craft lesson is laid out with a Bible verse, followed by a tradition or a legend which illustrates the verse. Then follow the materials list and directions to complete the project. The books are well-designed, the directions easy to follow and nicely illustrated. I'd suggest you use them if you need additional ideas for Sunday School.

Before and After Easter

I have used this excellent book in teaching preschool teachers about the symbolism and the activities for the lenten season.

The activities are wonderful expressions of this holy season. The layout of the book includes a background on the activity as well as the activity and ways in which to use within the classroom or the family. Very spiritual and uplifting resource guide for any teacher.

In my particular teaching setting, I have encouraged all teachers to purchase this book.
