When Karen is going shopping with her Nannie, she sees a back to school display and is disappointed that her summer is almost gone. Since there are no holidays in August, Karen and her friends decide to create a holiday, named Augustania. To Karen and her friends, this is a big success and she and her friends will always celebrate this holiday! I would suggest this book to anyone because this has a lesson to teach and keeps kids reading!

This book is so neat, and it encoureges younger kids to believe that they really can make a differance. It all starts when Karen is window shopping downtown with her grandmother Nannie and she sees a back to school display in a window in Augest. School didn't start until next month! I won't ruin the rest of the story for you exept to say that Karen decides to create her own holiday, and things get out of hand. I know you'll love it!

This is a good book that is easy to read and understand. It is great for pre-teens and teens who need information about world religions for a report. It has every religion you could think of and a lot of information about them. There are a lot of really great pictures too. This is a must have for any teacher or school library.

Not only is the story marvelous, but the illustrations are astounding, better than any illustrations I have ever seen in a children's book. This book is the perfect book to read to your whole family during the holiday season, and highly recommended.

The talented artist, Demi, has outdone herself in this latest book. It's a wonderful showcase of beautiful and brightly colored chinese kites incorporated into a story of chinese traditions that children can understand and appreciate. Imagine my daughter's surprise when she saw several kites in this book identical to those we have hanging on our walls at home. I highly recommend buying this book!
Another awesome book by Demi!

If you have a child at home in preschool or early elementary school, and are looking for a good book, this book is for you! This is a wonderful Easter-time story about a hedgehog named Gilbert, who meets up with his seldom seen cousin, Wally. Though related, Wally and Gilbert are the opposite when it comes to manners. I am a substitute teacher, and I read this to a class of first graders. Even though it was time for recess the kids were "begging" me to turn the page so they could find out what happens next!

Let me tell you a feel-good story. It involves love - the love of a mother for her daughter, and a child's passionate, exhilarated, uncomplicated love for books. This is the true story of Deb Raymer, and her daughter Sabrina, and how I came to know them. This holiday season, I am grateful that Deb has shared parts of her story, and that through her mom, Sabrina has shared a wonderful cast of characters previously unknown to me.
A couple of months ago, Deb asked me to help her find a series of books. All Sabrina wants for Christmas is "Gilbert". Deb needed to order multiple copies of each book in the collection, she explained. Sabrina loves the "Gilbert" books so much, that she reads them to pieces. Literally. While I am always thrilled to see someone who loves books that much, that's not even the best part of the story. Sabrina is mentally and physically handicapped. She has a job at Partners in Progress that she enjoys. Whenever she rides to work on the bus, she has a "Gilbert" book - or two, or three - in her bag, and she "reads" them to the other passengers. Sabrina has memorized her favorite books. Her mother needs to keep buying new copies of them because Sabrina pages through them so much and so often that they fall apart.
Gilbert, the hedgehog, and his sister Lola, are creations from the paintbrush and pen of Diane de Groat. This author/illustrator started working in children's literature by doing the artwork for some well-known children's authors, such as Lois Lowry and Eve Bunting. De Groat started on her Gilbert series in 1996 with "Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink", which is still Sabrina's favorite.
I hadn't heard of de Groat, and Deb gave my literary ego a boost by reassuring me that I'm not alone. Often, when Deb and Sabrina have searched for Gilbert in libraries and bookstores, he is nowhere to be found. So, it's time to spread the word. Diane de Groat has created a fun, inexpensive series with sympathetic characters, situations that kids can relate to, and a little lesson that doesn't come across like a 2"x 4" to the forehead. The titles themselves produce a smile for kids and adults alike. Now there's a Gilbert for every season in a child's life. A reader can start school with Gilbert in "Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books" and end the school year with the companion volume, "No More Pencils, No More Books! No More Teacher's Dirty Looks!" In these final months of the year, we have been enjoying "We Gather Together, Now Please Get Lost" for Thanksgiving, and "Jingle Bells, Homework Smells" for Christmas.
The Gilbert books have been so successful that now his sister Lola has her own series, books for slightly younger children, that often include Gilbert, but from Lola's point-of-view. When Lola can't decide what to be for Halloween, she finally decides to be "a Gilbert", because she knows he's an original. I think Sabrina and Lola are on to something good.

Ronnie, Claude, and Fleur are back! One year after Blackwell Live, Ronnie is dating Jimi Steele, has a new baby brother, and the LBD have gone through all kinds of fun. Once again, its time for Astlebury Festival. Now that the girls are a year older and wiser, they are sure that their parents will recognize their maturity and let them go this year. However, the parentals still hedge, and conveniantly wait to deny their request until tickets are sold out anyway. Then, a miracle happens: Spike Saunders, who they met last year, sends them 4 tickets! The LBD schemes, and get permission to go, as long as they are accompanied by Fleur's older sister, Daphne. The girls encounter several complications, but get to the festival in one piece. They are having the time of their lives, dancing, meeting boys, and hearing great music. But when Fleur disappears, will the LBD be in the most trouble of their lives...or will they find her and come out on top, with the help of Spike's special passes.....

This is a beautifully and sensitively written Haggadah based on the Jewish customs of the Passover Seder. The fact that it was written jointly by a rabbi and a minister adds considerably to its breadth. For a Christian community whose members are already familiar with the basic structure and rituals of the Passover Seder, this Haggadah will add new layers of understanding as these same Jewish structures, rituals and symbolism are re-interpreted in light of Christian teachings. It is not intended for a mixed faith group of Jews and Christians together. It is directed at Christian groups who wish to better experience and understand this part of Jesus's life story and its underlying Jewish basis.

I really am pleased how it approaches its subject matter. Most children's books about international holidays are too technical and long to be used as a read aloud. This book can be useful and provide useful information. If a student wants more they can read a more complex book later. It also helps include an ESOL child's holiday in class, even young kids.

What a really cool and different kind of book for a bedtime story. Not only that this book will grow along side your child which I really like! The book includes a small flashlight that is connected to the book. At first your child can listen to the simple 1 -2 sentences and then as they grow make up their own story that goes with each page. The pages consist of a Cat & a tree, owl in flight & tree, lighthouse and a old sailing ship with big billowy sails, a car parked onto of the hill and a witch and cat.
I am hoping that they will maybe make another book so that it can be read all though out the year.
