Actually, I haven't read this book---my daughter did. To me. Shes a beginning reader and did quite well. She was able to enjoy the story and read it capably---which says something, I think, about the excellent quality of the author. The illustrations were fun, too. Henry's cousin, Annie, "deserves" a nice pet. Search out the perfect pet for her with Henry and his parents.

My name is Morgan ...... and I am six years old. I have read all of the Henry and Mudge books and this one is my all time favorite. I am a big pet fan and Annie finding the perfect pet (she got to choose from a bunch) made me very happy. I could not wait to turn the pages and find out which pet Annie would pick. I was very happy that she choose the cute white bunny. Henry and Mudge books are the best! And my mom loves them too!

A new batch of playful poems to celebrate the seasons and holidays! This is a beautifully and whimsically illustrated book that will delight the kids and the adults will have fun with it too! The poems are silly and so much fun.

I am impressed that this includes poems for many different religions and ethnicities. For example there are poems for: the Chinese New Year, Rosh Hashanah, Hanukkah, Ramadan, The Nativity, Kwanza, New Years eve, and Martin Luther King. There are many other occasions that have been 'poemized' like camping and fishing, sleepover fun, summer, mother earth and arbor day, flower party and the list goes on.

This is a treasure that you and your kids will enjoy, and you'll wanna keep this book long after your kids are gone! (because don't we all need to be reminded how to be a kid again once in a while?) I loved the author's first book "Lunch Box Mail." -So, be sure to check that one out if you haven't already. Both are great!

I read this book to my daughter's Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. She then read it to her 2nd grade class! Last year I read it to my son's preschool class and will be reading again this year.
The kids of all religions love it. Its a lovely simple story with beautiful pictures. The kids I have read it to get so excited to see the menorah with all its candles lit.

This is a terrific book for youngsters who feel left out of Christmas! My 5 year old son took this book in to share with the rest of his kindergarten class. It's educational and easily explains Hanukkah to kids. The book is very engaging and the illustrations are wonderful!

A christmas tradition

This is not only one of my favorite christmas stories of all time, but it was also a christmas tradition through all of my childhood. Each year on christmas eve my parents would hold me up to the trap-door for the attic as I listened to "brown mouse" scampering around above me. I have never forgotten this story, it remains my favorite to this day... wonderfully descriptive, sweet and playful, a must have for any child's collection. If you can find a copy snatch it up!

The Perfect Christmas Eve Story

This is the dearest Christmas book I've ever read. The first time I read it to my daughters, ages 4 and 7, we had to read it again right then and there, because it was so wonderful. I even phoned my ex-husband, their father, to share it with him!

The story is set on Christmas Eve in a large house filled with a human family and a family of mice, including small Brown Mouse who is so young he's never been in the people part of the house. The mice venture downstairs after midnight for "a long night of feasting and merrymaking" and return to their attic home at nearly dawn. The excitment, the sights, and the adventures they encounter make Brown Mouse's very first Christmas one he'll never forget.

The writing is marvelous. You can see, taste, and smell everything the author writes about. I think the story has so much more feeling to it than "... and all through the house, not a creature was stirring...". For instance, the description of the Christmas tree begins like this:

'A tall, tall tree all spicy and green hung with hundreds of twinkling, glittering things of all sorts...' and ends with 'and silvery light trembling on every branch, casting crisscross shadows on the ceiling . . .'

I think this is a delightful book, and I am so glad that it is still in print! I am even getting a copy for my mother, whose absolute favorite holiday is Christmas.

About 28 pages; darling pictures on every other page to hold your littlest one's attention.

Refugees' voyage to freedom
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-20
My third graders like this book very much and it sparks a lot of discussion about America and freedom. It's about a family that must flee a Caribbean island because of political persecution. They escape in a crowded boat, where they face hunger and fear. On their trip they are even robbed and shot at. Finally, they reach a friendly shore where they are welcomed and invited to share a feast, for it is Thanksgiving Day in America. They agree there is much to be thankful for. The text is very simple and the illustrations convey the mood of fear and uncertainty. This little book may bring tears to your eyes, and will definitely make you proud to be an American.

Eve Bunting has managed to describe at a child's level the fear, anticipation and exhaustion that often accompanied many of our ancestors as they came to America. This book is a reminder of the people who both came before us and those that still come with hope to America.

It is a beautiful, meaningful and heartwarming book to share with elementary students and families either during the Thanksgiving season or while studying history and immigration.

Fun tool for teaching your flower girls about weddings

Bought a copy for each of my two flower girls, ages 3 and 4. They love them! One mom has to limit the amount of time her daughter plays with them because it's now her favorite toy. The story is adorable and cleverly written. The two girls love "practicing" to be in the wedding and using the items included in the book.

Every bride should buy this book!

I originally found this in my local library 18 months ago. When we returned it after two weeks, my 2 year old kept asking me to read it again, so I bought a copy. We continue to read it often. It's a delightful story about Shabbat and family, and why it's all so special to a little boy. In addition to being a wonderful story, the illustrations are beautiful, and the typography is far better than most children's books. It looks like this book was an act of love for everyone who contributed to it.

The triumph of inner strength over external disabilities

Superbly written by Alexis Rae Weaver, Hunter Bunny Saves Easter is a charming picturebook colorfully illustrated by Jennifer M. Kohnke and is about a bunny and a duckling who are different from the rest of their siblings and neighbors. Hunter Bunny needs a motorized wheelchair to move about, and Clark the duckling needs glasses to see. They become friends and embark upon an adventure to help the Easter Bunny, in this remarkable story about the triumph of inner strength over external disabilities. Hunter Bunny Saves Easter is highly recommended for young readers and offers an entertaining and instructive message which will resonates with children the year-round.

My kids love it....every time we read it.

Thank you for such a good book which teaches such good lessons.
My kids fell in love with Hunter and Clark and were instantly mesmerized by the story and the beautiful pictures. My children are five and seven years old and surprised me with their questions and comments about the obstacles each character overcame, such as being made fun of for being different. The happy ending had all of us tearing up and some of us cheering for the two "misfits" who became heroes.

My daughter says "if Hunter Bunny can do it so can I". She has some special needs but like Hunter is not Handicapped by them.
A very appropriate gift for any child or special person.

Happy Holidays and God bless.

This book is a "true-true" part of Bahamian history. Very few books have been written about the history of this cultural festival and this one is phenomenal. Nash-Ferguson gives a first person account of the entire process and history of the festival and the reader truly feels a part of the experience. The graphics and layout of this book are also wonderful - from the scene displayed through a piece of ripped cardboard on the cover to the shots of the costumes throughout it is easy to see why Junkanoo is considered true Bahamian culture by many.
