I am usually a big fan of romance novels. I bought this at a school book fair becasue I did not ever get to see the movie! I read the book and I was good but It did get a bit confusing at times concerning the location. It also could have used a bit more detail. If the book was made first the author would have described things a lot more than they did because a good author always wants their audience to feel like they are in the setting. And by the way that is difficult to do if you are lost.

In the story Rosalee has always been friends with this Guy named Pete. Rosalee is a beautiful and random girl who just like to have fun and loves to look at cute guys. She is a bit of a dork. Petie is the manager of the piggly-wiggly that Rosalee's Father owns and she works at. He is a bit of a dork, that is because he is in love with Rosalee, the other dork in this story, and always has been.

Rosalee enters a contest to win a date with a her famous movie star "Tad Hamilton" Well she wins and goes on the date. After she goes home Petie is so happy that she protected her "carnal treasure" her virginity, since he is known for short romps with young girls. Tad shows up in Rosalee's town and takes her on a few dates. He makes Petie feel of a lesser value than himself. When tad gets another filming job he asks Rosalee to go with him and she says yes.

When Petie finds out that she is leaving he goes to find her and ask her not to go because he loves her. She just gets angry at Pete. When she is in Tad's private plain she finds out that Pete told him to tell her that she has seven different smiles. She goes home to find Pete.

When she goes to Pete's apartment and all she finds is the girl that loves Pete like he loves Rosalee is there and she tells her that he has left, not planning to return soon. Rosalee drives to find him. She cathces up to him in her car and she makes him wreck. When he gets out of the car they make up, kiss, dance, etc, etc, etc, the end!!!!

I would watch the movie you actually get to see cute guys at the same time!!!!!

Cute Movie Novelization

Tad Hamilton, big-time movie star, has recently been named a bad-boy. To continue getting the parts that he really wants, he needs to clean up his image. That's when his agent comes up with a brilliant scheme to have him loved by all once again. A contest called Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!, where any girl in the entire country can win a date with the heartthrob. Bring in Rosalee Futch, a small-town girl, and Piggly Wiggly grocery store clerk. Not to mention Tad's biggest fan, and the winner of the contest. After the agreed one date, Tad is so in love with being a part of "the real world," that he moves to West Virginia, just to be near Rosalee. Much to the chagrin of Pete, Rosalee's best friend, and boss at the Piggly Wiggly. Who just happens to be desparately in love with her, and has been his entire life. Now Rosalee's got to choose between the glamour of Hollywood, or her best friend.

Cristina Fox has done a fantastic job of making a novelization out of a cute romantic comedy. Tad is a macho, self-centered, egotistical, actor, who thinks that he can change his ways in one night. Rosalee is somewhat of a clueless girl, who's sweet, with a cute personality. And Pete is a funny character who will do anything to get the girl, including threatening a big-time star like Tad Hamilton. With quirky dialogue, and a plot that every teenage girl wishes she would be so lucky to experience, WIN A DATE WITH TAD HAMILTON! is guaranteed to be a surefire hit with the tweens/teens market. Especially around Valentine's Day.

as a conference program. I thought there might be information on types of moustaches, with illustrations, plus a bit of history. It's just some information on a meeting of a moustache club, with bios of some of the members, and some details of who won prizes. There isn't even a complete set of pictures of the contest winners.

I attended the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Carson City on a lark, and entered myself as a contestant in a bout of sheer madness. It was pretty difficult to imagine what these people would be like. Before long, I learned that anyone willing to transform his face into a piece of abstract art is fine by me. This magical Halloween weekend of October, 2003 is well encapsulated in this amusing and photo-filled masterwork - and I don't just say that becuase my photo is the final image in the volume. Come to Berlin in October for the next competition and feel the excitement - just don't touch my beard.

I was excited when I received this book, but my interest soon turned into anger. What a rip off. There's little information about the grants and awards, and worse yet, I found....by doing some research which the author certainly didn't do....that some of the awards no longer exist! Pity the poor writer who uses this book as a reference. Terrible.

This book opens up some opportunities for people like myself. That is, someone who loves writing but has no experience with it. Without this book I would have no idea that there are actually things I can do with my work. Besides file it and read it to friends and family. But I do feel the book lacks some important content when dealing with organizations. And maybe some more ideas on presentation and subject are needed.

I was excited when I ordered "Money for Writers" in mid-1997. I've been freelancing full time for 17 years and I thought I might be able to land a grant or project that would let me concentrate on a "from the heart" project. No such luck -- the info in "Money for Writers" is profoundly disappointing. Billot doesn't provide enough info about the listed grants and fellowshops for serious writers to be able to make smart decisions about whether it's worthwhile to apply. Introductory chapters provide no helpful advice on successfully applying. Worst of all, when I returned the book, Billot ignored my request for my money back...it wasn't until several writers from the American Society of Journalists and Authors started clamoring together for refunds that any were forthcoming. Overall, a great idea torpedoed by its execution.

As a professional journalist, let me describe this book as economically as I can. It sucks. I was fooled by the title. It is a book that the author could have had compiled by an intern. I would be surprised if she spent more than 45 minutes of her own time on it. It is nothing more than a list of available grants, with names and addresses of the sponsoring organizations. No information about the award. What good is a book like this without giving a few paragraphs about the criteria for each award, or a few examples of recent winners. Arghhh! It pains me to think of the editing and severe scrutiny I have endured by editors, while this piece of crud made it onto the shelves. Who does the author know?

A "short list"

Review Date: 2003-06-23
I found "Money for Writers" extremely helpful. It lists hundreds of grants and awards with small snippets as to what they fund -- i.e poetry, fiction, drama, etc. The purpose of Ms. Billot's book is to provide writers with a consise listing to contact for more information, it is NOT a listing of federal grants, or what is known online as "free money". If you are looking for specific details ... merely type "grant money" in your browser search box.

As to some of her entries no longer existing, Money for Writers' copyright is 1996, and 1997... 6 and 7 years ago. Take a look thru WRITER'S MARKET 2003, or POETRY MARKET 2003. Find a trade journal and join or write to them.... do a search for an award, etc you're interested in -- find their dotcom; whatever you can think of. But Money for Writers is not a detailed guide.

That would be the federal government, or private funding sources. Try Grant Seeker Pro's site. Or the Guru of Grants, Mathew Lesko. [I must warn you however, that Lesko's book is 800 pages long]

Anyway, I have been writing FOR YEARS, and found "Money for Writers" very helpful. Just take what you find in it's pages as a "short list" that you need to investigate and follow up on.

Hang in there, and good luck, I know what a writer's life is like.

Nasty Stinky Sneakers
If you like mystery books you will like Nasty Stinky Sneakers by Eve Bunting. This is an awesome book. Colin has spent weeks making his shoes smell really bad for a contest. If he wins he will get three pairs of slam Dunker shoes. One for his little sister Amy, one for him self, and one for his best friend Webster. But now after weeks of working toward stinky sneakers, they are mising. Will he find them. I think this book is really good because it is funny, and my socks have smelt really bad.

My 7 yr old really enjoyed this book. Light mystery with nothing scary but lots of fun is right where he's at. I appreciate that this book is also well written. I feel it's important for kids to read books with good sentence structure and interesting vocabulary, and this book has it. (There are some "series" and other books out there with fun titles and stories, but poor writing.)

But Enid has a dark secret that she shares with Liz.

The second book in the SWEET VALLEY HIGH series takes drama to a new level that readers will eat up.

As a fan of the original books, I was disappointed. Wow, could they make it any more obvious that this is 2008? Way too many pop culture references, and unrealistic dialogue. The real Enid Rollins would NOT be wearing Juicy Couture, that is for sure. Also, the scene where Enid tells Liz she was arrested and paralyzed a 5 year old is way too dramatic and I don't feel that it's real. They could have just written it so she got in an accident, blah blah blah. EVERY page they have to make a reference to a magazine, TV show, band, or fashion label that is commonplace today.

Oh, and for those of you complaining about how the twins went from size 6 to a size 4: In case you have been living under a rock, clothing sizes are DRASTICALLY different than they were in the 80's/90's. What used to be a size 6 is the same size as a 4 or a 2, nowadays. So you should feel lucky that the author didn't write them as a size 2 or zero. Before they redid clothing sizes to make women feel better about themselves, I was a size 6, now I struggle to fill out a size 2 pair of jeans.

And what about issues that real teens face today? Like sex and drugs? Those are hardly mentioned.

I miss the old Sweet Valley...

No substitute for the original.

I have been a long-time of this wonderfully crack-tastic series. Be warned as the other reviewer stated some of the changes they made are somewhat bizarre. A burger joint is changed to a Mexican restaurant, a character's clothing style and band name are changed...that however is nothing compared to the insidious fate handed down to slutty rich boy Bruce Patman. His beloved Porsche has been traded in for a CADDY(!?)
The name brands are a bit ridiculous, I feel and saying all this I will tell you that I cannot wait for the other books come out, so I can compare/contrast with my "old skool" collection.
Here's the plot of the book: Jessica wants to be prom queen. She finds out her twin sister's BFF has a druggie past and spills the beans to Enid's jealous boytoy, Ronnie.
There's also something about Jessica's BFF tormenting a French teacher because the teacher is dating her father.
W#hile Sweet Valley High books are not at all deep, they are quite fun.
I would highly recommend getting the originals before starting the reissues

no thanks

I was at the bookstore earlier today, and I picked this book up and flipped to a random page, but as soon as I read a sentence that consisted of one of the characters wearing a juicy courture outfit, I immediately put it down. And to make matters worse, I've heard that the pants size that Jessica and Elizabeth wear has gone from a perfect size 6, to a perfect size 4. Are you serious? Nice way to add to the growing issue of teenage body issues.

I have been a fan of The Sweet Valley series ever since I was a little girl, and have since then collected a majority of books from the several series that the world of Sweet Valley consists of. So ill say, I was excited when I heard that they'd be reprinting the books with new covers because I saw it as an opportunity for a new generation of sweet valley fans to discover these wonderful books. But I didn't realize that they'd also be changing some of the things in the book. I mean I can understand why they'd want to update some of the things such as the fashions and the use of cell phones, because I know things like that will appeal to todays audience. But still.

The next time I feel like re-entering the world of Sweet Valley, ill just stick to the old fashioned version and pick up one of the books off of my bookshelf.

This book is not detail or very descriptive as a how-to guide, but there are some good creative ideas, if you can see ahead and personally know how to expand on them. I was slightly disappointed after reading the Penny Whistle party planner and birthday planner, and the Family Fun Parties. But since I bought at a discount bookstore online for $..., it was adequate. I use it for coming up with ideas and expand from there to other resources are the internet.

Not quite a how-to guide but contains inspiring theme ideas.

This is a collection of more than 30 party themes submitted by parents throughout the US with party tips, recipes and suggestions by the authors. The themes vary in originality from "Barney" to a "Make-It and Bake-It Party" with some themes being repeated in subtly different forms (Beachless Beach Party, Splash Party, and Backyard Seashore Party). This is not a book for the mom who needs specific directions (try the Penny Whistle series) but, for the creative mom, this book has several original themes. The Mystery Party is especially well thought out and has a realistic number of activity descriptions (at least four). Others such as the Dump Truck Party for a 7-year-old had only one activity description - "Pin the Wheel on the Truck" game. Not for everyone, but a parent with imagination and time, can turn many of these themes into a their child's "best party ever."

Riverol's research and preparation for writing this book seems almost exhaustive, but his presentation is unexciting and repetitive. With only 96 pages of text to read, 25 pages of photographs, 15 pages of footnotes, 9 pages of "works cited" and 5 pages of index , the book seems unbalanced, but Riverol admits in his foreword that this is a "scholarly" study. The most interesting portion of the book is his "Preliminary Thoughts" which speaks of how and why beauty pageants arose in history. After this initial chapter, he goes through each decade of the pageant, beginning with the 1920's. We learn from him when talent became a factor, when the "Miss Congeniality" Award began and why it was stopped in 1975, and other important changes along the way, but he only lightly discusses incidents with the contestants and winners and there is almost no dialogue in the book. Instead we see repeated program lineups, lists of preliminary winners, and finalists, in at least six key pageants. The changes that TV brought are shown as well as how the pageant survived ups and downs such as the Vanessa Williams Penthouse incident and the feminists' protests. This history of the American icon which is also the largest scholarship program for women ends at 1992, the copyright date of the book.

If you are looking for a detailed, fully documented history of the Miss America Pageant then L.F.A.C. is your book. It is not only specific and insightful, but also looks at the pageant's evolution as a media event. It is scholarly in its approach.

This isn't exactly the best in the Sweet Valley Twins series. It's not very realistic at ALL. First of all, Jessica lies so she can win the "Most French Family" contest. OK, who would even come up with such a dumb contest idea? The most French family? Jessica wins, by some wild coincidence by lying that her family is French. The judge flies out from New York or wherever to visit the Wakefields. Turns out the rest of the family knows that Jessica has lied, so they play a trick on her. I'm sorry, but DUMB! I LOVE the Sweet Valley Twins books, but this one was a flop. If you are considering getting a Sweet Valley Twins book, try getting a different one.

GREAT BOOK! Its about a kid (Max Carmody)who wants to be a stand up comic and when he sees a poster for a contest for The Funniest Kid in America he has to sign up and for him it all goes down hill from there.
For me it all goes up hill from there. The problems this kid faces is hilarious and with hilarious results. Good read for the plane! Another Gordon Korman book which was great! I loved No More Dead Dogs. Great book and I love his name he changes it to, Maxx Comedy!
This should spawn a sequel or maybe two, but man is this a good book.
