In the third volume of Dragon ball Goku goes of to Muten Roshis island to learn martial arts. Muten Roshi agress to train him but only if he brings him a girl friend. After Gokus first try which dosen't work another martial arteist named Kuririn ask Muten Roshi to train him to. Muten Roshi refuses at first but then changes his mind after Kuririn gives him a gift he changes his mind. So Goku and Kuririn set out to find a girl for Roshi. After meating Lunch Muten Roshi takes Goku and Kuririn to train at turtle rock. After six months of hard traning Goku and Kuririn go of the the world martial arts tourtment where they meet some old friends and rivals. This is one of my favroit volumes beacuse it has good humor and action. This volume has some achool and tabaco use with some mild language and some tolit humor in it so I think it may be aproproit for some kids. Anyway good buy and part to the dragon ball manga series I also owen the Dvd box set of this saga.

This is the best Dragonball Z manga book since volume 12. In this graphic novel, Goku has just been stricken by the heart virus, while the Z fighters get their butts kicked by the newly awakned Androids No. 17 & 18. After getting his butt kicked by Android 17, Piccolo goes to Kami-Sama's Palace to fuse with Kami-Sama. But Kami wants to wait to see what will happen...... As seen in Viz's Shonen Jump Magazine. If you don't understand what i'm saying its best to read Vols. 1-13 before this one( they all are pretty good.)
The series continues...

Before I go into my review proper I would like to ask one question: how in the heck did the Red Ribbon army create androids as strong as #17 and #18 anyway? They couldn't even defeat Goku when he was a (Relatively)wimpy kid and now they got things that can wail on super saiyans? I don't get it. Anyway, on to the review. In this book Dr. Gero gets killed by the androids he awakened in the last volume who then proceed to kick Vegeta's butt. Piccolo fuses with Kami(which seems wierd to me, can a person fuse more than once?) Anyway, an evil alien shows up called Cell and that's pretty much it. I enjoyed reading it but it is probably not my favorite of the series, still it is a very good read for Dragonball Z fans.

If you've read any of the Dragonball manga issues, you've got to get the graphic novels as well. These are much more sturdy and more in book form.
Since Funimation ruined the american version of Dragonball Z, you can now read what Toriyama-san really made, or you could spend a fortune on the subtitled japanese videos and DVDs, but this is so much less exspensive and portable.

The Namek Saga begins with a bang (no pun intended) as Kuririn and Gohan play hide-and-seek with Vegeta and and his ex-boss,the evil Freeza, while trying to save a little Namekian named Dende and find the Namekian Dragon Balls so they can bring Kami-Sama, Chaozu, Tenshinhan, Yamcha, and Piccolo back to life. After seeing what power Freeza's forces are packing as well as Vegeta's newly developed ablitiy to sense Chi, things aren't looking too good for our heros until Bulma learns that Goku is on his way to Namek and Dende tells them of The Great Elder, the parent of all Namekians, who might beable to help them...if they promise to save Namek. Beautifully drawn and wonderfully told, this is yet another masterpiece in the DragonBall/DragonBall Z saga. Check out the Title Page Gallery in the back, two of the pictures will make you laugh. Enjoy!

A good friend of mine gave this to me as a present. I found myself reading those fine, short essays again and again. I'm a European with little knowledge of the Civil War of the USA. This opened new perspectives to this American tragedy. Even my son of 15 years have found it very interesting.

I admit I bought this book because I really liked the clever caricatures of Civil War figures like Lee, Grant, Jackson, etc. But the mini-biographies of each person are really fascinating too, especially chapters dealing with some of the lesser known figures like spy Rose Greenhow and Robert Anderson, the Union guy who surrendered Fort Sumter. The author dug up some little "nuggets" about each person that you don't usually find in the history books, and it is this kind of offbeat data that makes history come alive. By the way, the bios are one half Rebel, one half Union--equal time, I guess. I think the author has a slight pro-Confederate bias, but I didn't mind that at all.

In my view the personalities that make history are often more interesting than the events that make them famous. "Drawn To The Civil War" demonstrates that this is true, even for an event as significant as the the war that tore our nation apart. This book is a series of short biographies covering the major warriors, politicians, spies, and others who achieved fame on both sides of the war, focusing on the characteristics that made each individual unique. The book is layed out in a fashion that guides the reader through all the major events leading up to and during the war, giving the reader a good perspective on the sequence events and how one led to the next, without being strictly chronological and without dwelling on dates and places. The caricatures by Mike Caplanis are wonderful. They are humorous, but when viewed in the context of the biographical information they clearly capture the essence of each unique personality as well. I picked up the book from a coffee table at a bed and breakfast last weekend, and couldn't put it down. I'm not a "Civil War Nut", but I found the book captivating nonetheless.

Grosz created a gallery of archetypes representing the corrupt underbelly of post-World War I Germany. His wit is biting, his imagery striking, his vision acute, as he examines the results of an insane, lost war and a draconian peace imposed by victors intent on punishing rather than reconstructing an enemy who might have been turned toward more democratic ways by understanding rather than retribution. We are caught up in the demoralization he portrays with the poignant knowledge that a far greater corruption of Germany and of Europe, generally, would be created by a later Nazi regime which brilliantly exploited the moral degeneracy we see in this masterpiece of social criticism.

This delightful strip is about a Jewish family living in the Philadelphia area. Len, the husband/father is self employed and has a partner who is from India. Abby, Len's wife is a therapist and their two children, Colin and Carly are of indeterminate early grade age.
Len, whose mother is a hippie who rallies round causes and makes brisket the entire clan demands every Jewish holiday adds to the fun. The eclectic characters and topical issues tinged with just the right amount of edgy humor make this a brilliant, cutting edge strip. Abby's parents are an interparty union, one a democrat and the other a republican. Let's just say that political discussions between the two can get to be a bit....incendiary.
Len, like his hippie mother has a cool side. He plays bass in a band called, aptly enough "Midlife Crisis" and he wails about the current state of rock music. He does not win friends when he bashes the Beatles -even his bandmates understandably take umbrage in that. Still, funny hijinks ensue, such as when Led Balloon, a Led Zeppelin cover band agree to take Len on until he ruins a gig by jamming instead of playing "the songs people love and paid to hear," as his irate bandmate tells him.
There are some excellent plot lines and the diversity of characters leave no short supply of interest and entertainment. One of my favorite strips, which is not included in this book appeared in newspapers on 5/26/06 when Len tries to comfort Carly by telling her he thinks she is "the most beautiful little girl in the world." Carly rolls her eyes and says, "Well, duh! You ARE my dad," to which Len replies, "Even so, that doesn't mean my opinion is totally invalid." That is so common - in trying to cheer one's child with such hyperbolic praise, it is only natural for the child (of any age) to respond in a manner not too different from Carly's.
"Edge City" is good, cutting edge humor in high caliber form. I love this collection!

Jewish urban professionals - a modern family in a modern city, with typical modern problems: the perils of being self-employed, raising kids these days, bemoaning what's happened to rock-n-roll.
Abby is a psychotherapist, sharing an office with several eccentrics. Len and his business partner Rajiv, who is Indian-American (and still single, horrors!), run a delivery business. Carly and Colin go to school, play sports, and want more electronic gadgets. There are lots of contemporary comic strips about families; the twists in this one compared to, say, "Zits" or "Rose is Rose" or "For Better or Worse," include (among other things) the occupations, the family being specifically Jewish, and Len's hobby of playing in a garage band. These elements allow for jokes that other strips don't have.
Some of the plot lines in this collection include: the family's internet connection being down; the giant fuss over who in the extended family does the Passover Seder; Len's purchase of a taxidermy woodchuck playing the banjo; and a Led Zeppelin tribute band.

To my knowledge, this is the first collection from Bud Grace's excellent comic strip 'Ernie' (now known as 'The Piranha Club'). Not done in the typical comic strip book style of publishing all comic strips from a certain time period, this book is divided into chaptered segments containing some of Bud's favorite earlier work. A must have for any Ernie fan!

If you are not already an Ernie fanatic, look at the cover of this book. If you suffer a hernia or suddenly find yourself in a room with padded walls, chances are you liked it. If you want to read about erudite subjects like moose-milking olympics, going on a date with a chicken, cross-dressing, nose-hair removal systems, etc., or merely want to find out whether Quacko the human duck is a duck who looks like a man or a man who looks like a duck, or in fact a mongoose, buy the book immediately. If you don't like it, give it to your mother-in-law. On second thoughts, even if you like it, give it to your mother-in-law. Chances are she'll never bother you again.
On the other hand, of course, if you are already an Ernie fan you're probably too busy reading the book in your padded cell to read stupid book reviews.

I am a Booth FREAK. His hyper-detailed observations of "nothing" and "new yorkers" obviously influenced the sitcom "Seinfeld."
Also, anyone who loves animals to an almost "nutty" degree will appreciate the emotional dependence depicted in these little (cracked) windows on life.
Another book with humorous cats worth having is Henry Beard's "French For Cats;" Booth would approve!

Lee Lorenz has indeed captured the essential George Booth. Not only has he given Booth's adoring fans a beautiful collection of his work, he introduces us to the sources of his brilliance - his smart, talented, humorous, proudly individualistic parents - and he spices the book with just the right number and types of Boothianic stories to make us yearn for more. This is a rare find.
