A long roadtrip can be hard on kids no matter what they're ages. This had something for everyone. It had crafts for the daughter and games for the son. It included everything that was necessary (no hunting for makers or pens) and included a two page list of all the license plates of the US with a spcae to mark the date and where you saw them. They kep a look out for unusual ones along the way.

I have 9 year old twins who thought this was a good book. The packet of activities came with some items that needed scissors. Make sure to pack your own. They had a fun time with it and it was a good hit on the 10 hour road trip we had. While they didn't play it the whole time they did use it through out the trip. It was a good sturdy book that will last for some time to come.

This book was worth every cent to my girls ages 12 and 9. We took it on a trip just recently and it kept them busy for a long time. They love the friendship bracelet craft, the doodle area, the game boards, cats cradle string games and the licence plate checklist! My son was not particularly interested in this item since the crafts seem more geared toward girls. I don't recommend it for younger children, since it will be a little above their level. It's perfect for kids age 7-8 through teens.

There are some used ones for sale, but you need to purchase a new one for this type of book. The used ones will be written in, and have the activity pages filled in already which is no fun. Each child needs their own copy.

My children are getting a little older and needed some more engaging activities for road trips, and this book was just the thing we needed. The Klutz books are always fun, and this one is one of their best, and it is perfectly designed for back seat survival! We road test lots of different items because of my website, and this item was definitely a hit. I give it two thumbs up, and so do my girls. We will be bringing it on all our trips from now on.

It is a truly excellent book. It really does the job of keeping a child occupied. I bought it for my 9 y.o. and he was totally consumed by it. I didn't hear a single peep during the whole trip! He had some other activity books on the back seat, but this one was his absolute favorite! We played games from the book together, he tested the adults' IQ, he checked if we really knew traffic rules, he marked down all license plates of states other than his home one, and so on... Everything from the book was real fun for everybody in the car! Highly recommended!

I actually used this book as a child on long car trips. I remember it fondly. I have 2 sisters and we all played quite nicely with this...for a while. The only problem was we wanted to do different things in different parts of the book. This led to 3 little girls squabbling over a book. Not fun! My advice is to get 1 per child.

Lessons of the Game is truly an amazing book. Although a non-avid reader, I recently picked up this book and read it within two days. Derek's writing style is very easy to understand. His choice of words to describe things made me know exactly where he was coming from and what it was like at points in Derek's life. I found myself laughing out loud several times as he described scenes as well as almost shedding a tear. This book gives the reader an inside look into Derek's life and true test of character. I believe this book is for the young, old, athletes, non-athletes, or anyone who is ready for an excellent book to read! It is a must read and won't be put down until finished!!!

I just finished this book and found it very interesting being as how i just finished my first season as a high school quarterback, and i have many of the same aspirations to do what he dreamed of doing. I was wondering though how much of a sugarcoat was put on derek in this book. it played out looking like everyone else were the bad guys. I wondered if one of the so called bad guys were to write a book stating his side who would you belive. But anyhow it was an exelent book and i encourage every one to give this book a try!!!

I would highly recommend this book for all young athletes who aspire to compete at a higher level. It is an excellent example of how a young athlete can be convinced he is immune to the rules of the game. As a former high school athlete and coach it also serves as a warning for parents and coaches on how their own behavior can have devasting effects on a young athlete's career and life.

I became a fan of Derek Sparks after hearing him speak at the YMCA Apple Cup Rally Benefit Dinner. He was amazing! Today, a month later, I can still feel the power of the GAMETIME message. I am 33 years old and Derek helped me examine myself and my life . I have a renewed spirit and confidence in the days ahead. I applaud Derek for his work with youth and his courage to make a difference.

His life story is sad and heart wrenching, but at the same time refreshing to know that we all can survive the Lessons of Life and live to tell the good news.

The book, Lessons of the game by Derek Sparks tells about something that parents and many high school students do not even know about. Derek Sparks who wrote about his life growing up through high school; he lived a life far diverse than the average teenager. While other kids and students are working hard to keep good grades by staying in class and studying; nothing like that applied to Derek in high school. Everything was taken care of and it did not really matter who was doing all of this. While other normal families struggle with money, Derek had money shoved into his pocket, and if he desired food or any thing like that there was always someone who would go out and get it for him. He did not have an existent Dad as he walked out on him and he left his Mother who lives in Texas to play high school football in California. Derek did not go out to California by himself as his Uncle Jay brought him out there and tried to do what was best for him. As he could not live with his Uncle Jay, each high school had plenty to offer Derek including living in his own home or apartment near the school with all the expenses being taken care of.
You follow Derek on and off the field and learn how people would sell him out and not protect him from what he should not have to deal with as a young kid. Not only would people not do what was best for him but also they would do what ever they could to have him on their team or make money out of him because of being a "star" athlete and having the ability of becoming a professional. This is a great book and a must read for any one who is interested in sports. Even if you are not, I would recommend Lessons of the Game by Derek Sparks because once you start reading, you will not want to put it down.

When I first started this series, I was a little dissapointed. Not only was the dialogue boring and a little tedius to get through, but the characters weren't that likable from the start. BUT, as the book progressed, their were a few more things to keep it interesting. The end of the books was ok, a little abrubt. But, I can't say anything about it without giving away some of the story, so I will let the readers decide.

If 1)You are a fan of Dragonlance, 2) You are a fan of Mages in Dragonlance, then you should get this book. It takes place nearly 300 years after the Cataclysm, and really gives insight into the magical side of Krynn.

This is a great book, depicting the attempts of a young man, one Guerrand DiThon, who wishes to become a mage, despite the orders of his older brother, Cormac, and Cormac's influential wife.

But when a mysterious man wearing red robes named Belieze rolls into town and gives Guerrand a magical piece of glass that allows him to see to far places, he and his familiar, a seagull named Zagarus, both set out to the Tower of High Sorcery in Wayrenth to study the arts of magic and, perhaps, even take the Test and become a legend.

Studying under Justarius, Guerrand soon learns of a scheme that would undo the whole of Krynn. Belieze plans to enter the magical Citadel where all the knowledge of magic is stored!

Will Lyim, Guerrand's friend and Belieze's apprentice, fall victim to the evil mage's intentions? Or will Guerrand find himself in an inevitable struggle with the Master of the Red Robes? This awry tale will take you on a trip to Nuitari and back, so hold onto your hats and let Mary Kirchoff, the author of Wanderlust and Kendermore, sweep you away to a land known as Krynn.

I am in the process of reading this novel (half way done) and I came upon some ironic information. For any fan that read and enjoyed THE OATH AND THE MEASURE, I would strongly urgue you to buy NIGHT OF THE EYE. The two books both mention a 5 year period on which magic is at its peak. And while the plot of these books are different, it makes you kinda wonder about the timing of these novels. Both THE OATH AND THE MEASURE and NIGHT OF THE EYE are excellent novels to read at anytime.

I liked this book a lot, since I'm a mage fan and this book is completly about mages. The author developed the charactors well, like Rand's terrible, (but rather funny) family. The climax was very good, it had me on the edge of my seat. Read the other two books too!

I think of myself as a fairly avid fan of Dragonlance. And there are a couple of elements about the series that i like; like the fact that the some, 90+ books that have been written about the world of Krynn are, well, just that, about Krynn. What I mean is that the saga, once you're into it and familiar with the history, geography, etc, you can read a new story and things make sense. Another element that I like about the Dragonlance saga is the fantastic element (ie, dragons, chivalry of knights, and MAGIC). I like that fact that this book reassures me in both of those elements. The setting starts the book around the time slightly before the War of the Lance and the Companions, in a not-so-well known part of Krynn. And since the entire book is about magic and the study of it, it gives a very good look behind the every-day workings of magic, and insight into how and exactly what magic skills mean. Magic has always been such an elusive force in the Dragonlance world, where all they talk about is uttering of words and vague things like, "concentration" and "feeling of magic inside". This book really helps to change that.

This book was an excellent read for magic-lovers like myself, and had most of the elements that make a good Dragonlance book, like a good plot, a love interest, and and a well-developed, main character. If you like magic/Dragonlance/a good read, get this book. It may not be one of the VERY BEST DL books I've read, but it's still well worth the time, especially if you're a DL fan.

In fact, my only problem with this book was one aspect of the ending (if you haven't read the book, you may want to look away now...); Guerrand's sister is not addressed in the ending... She was perhaps my favorite character(i think it was because she seemed like such a helpless caged bird that tried so hard, and i'm really taken in for those "romantic"-type characters) in the book, and everything wraps up nicely except her... what happens to her? Why didn't she find out where Guerrand lived and ran away from home to Palanthas? Why didn't she just run away to begin with?? I know that the second book continues the story, so I'm hoping for the best....

I've been reading this to my one-year-old every night before bed, and she never tires of it. It is made of sturdy pages with big (also sturdy)flaps for little hands to lift. She loves playing peekaboo, so this book delights her, and she squeals everytime she sees her face at the end. I love this book so much, I intend to keep it in my "library" of books so that my grandchildren can enjoy it someday!

My son recieved this book for his 1st birthday and it was an instant hit. It was a fun enjoyable read for him, but the flaps are super flimsy and he had torn most of the book apart within 6 weeks. He's 15 months now and the book has been out of rotation for some time. :(

My boys loved this book. It actually lasted through one and passed on to the next extremely well! Each flap puts a smile on my little one's face. Its a great purchase.

We received this when my son was 15 months and he has loved it since. Initially, he just loved to lift the flaps, and it has handled his roughness. With the great pictures, we also use it to ask him to find an animal on a given page or within the whole book.

This is the sweetest book-after many many readings I am buying a new one since most of the flaps are gone and been "loved." This was my daughter's first book when she was 4 months old-she's loved it since the first time we read it. Hope your little one enjoys it too!

A very good book. Very comprehensive. Explanations, drawings are perfect. Perfect for training at home

I've read a number of books on the game of pool. I was very impressed with the authors grasp of the game as well as his very apparent love of the game. He has obviously studied the art form intensely for many years. I felt that his realistic, open minded approach and access to many of the current greats of the game make his advice quite invaluable to the commited student of the game. Buy this book if you're serious about improving.

Phil Chapelle's book "Play Your Best Pool" is a wealth of resources. It is quite thorough and would be good for someone seriously interested in pool. It's got a 60+ page section on 8-ball, an equally thorough section on 9 ball, and more on the fundamentals, shotmaking, position play,how to improve, practice techniques, and equipment. My games have significantly improved by reading and using Chapelle's book. Highly recommended. So much information that a novice might be overwhelmed, and it might not be so useful if you don't have a home table to go through it all (I wish I did)...but still, an indispensable book.

I got this book when i first became serious about playing pool, while reading it my game just kept going up and up and up, now i break and run several times a night. before it would be make a ball or 2 and that was it for my runs. it is a great book.

I have read eight books on pool. This is by far the best of the eight. The book is cramed with pool information. A no nonsense approach to playing the game. If you want to learn more about playing pool, this is the read.

I read this to our son, sadly, after he "out grew" these books, they were passed on. Happily, after searching all over I found these treasures on Amazon and now have a new collection for our beautiful grand daughter to enjoy.

I have loved this book since I had it read to me many years ago, and am excited to share it with my own child. A word of caution, however, regarding the "Little Golden Treasures" version -- it has been abridged from the original! A purist like myself will prefer a copy of the full version. I may still pick it up for our child sometime down the road. The story is a lovely one and the pictures are beautiful.

The book came very quick & in great shape. But I found the book at Walmart for less.

This is a very cute little story of an elephant becoming comfortable with who he is meant to be. The characters in this story help Sooki the elephant realize he is just fine the way he is. It's an easy read with a sweet ending. Nice illustrations as well.

After 60 years (this book was first published in 1947) this story still has a nice little message about being yourself, and expressing your talents.

I flipped through this book once and...nothing really hit me. Then I read it again, highlighting, circling, crossing things out -- and finally realized just how much this book is worth. It's pretty tiny as far as books go, but filled with lots of information that isn't for light snack reading. I'd advise you to keep it on your shelf and go back and read it when you're drawn to it- each time you read it, you can get something else out of it, depending on what stage in your life you're in and what information resonates with what you need to hear at the time. Some gems:

"There is no point dwelling on what holds fear or pain for you; if you do so you will only create the same kind of energy and multiply your ongoing frustration with life. The only natural way out of these difficult states is to follow the path of happy thought forms leading to your own direct experience of the joyfully and fully transcendent state of bliss."

If you don't enjoy what you're doing and the life you're living, do something to change it and the entire creation will necessarily conform, since you are both the foundation of the world and its creator. "The process by which you can accept new thoughts, release distrust and skepticism of them, and integrate them into your nature, is the same process by which you will transform your lower nature into something finer and greater."

I could go on and on...but go find your own pearls ;)! These are points that some of us already may be aware of, but reading them again can serve to cement them in your mind. The book also has a summary of all the points at the end, which might help you digest the information further.

I discovered my own truths while reading the Brotherhood's in WG. On Page 6 it reads, 'we will reconnect the dots' and WG definitely keeps it's promise. I know I am on a good path and it feels great! Judi T. is an amazing person and WG is a wonderful gift to us all. Enjoy, you will!

"Wisdom's Game" is a book that must be read with an open mind. Although is it a spiritual book, you don't have to be religious to benefit from reading it. This is a small book with a big message: pain and suffering can lead to growth, but only if you don't allow yourself to wallow in it. Disappointment, rejection, and other setbacks are a part of life, and of course it is normal to feel bad when things like this happen. However, if you change your perspective during these times, you can feel better sooner, rather than later. Each chapter includes quotes about a different subject in the book. I particularly like this one: "It is every human's task to face fear, examine its underbelly of resistance to experiencing pain and sorrow, and move ahead anyway."

I have known Judi Thomases for a long time, and long respected her as a healer, so it was my great joy to be able to read her book, Wisdom's Game.

Initially, I had trouble with the "game" analogy, but as I read along, I realized that I had the uncanny feeling that I was remembering something that I once knew and had forgotten... and the words rang true.

All my life, I have carried a memory- as an infant and a very young child, I remember feeling that some grasp that I had of something, some kind of consciousness was slipping away, almost the way one feels after waking up from a profound dream- and then having the memory of that dream slip away.

In a way, it was more the opposite- it was more like going to sleep... and I can truly say that I have spent my whole life slowly waking up.

Judi's book rings true to my sense of this very early memory, and helped me to "wake up" even more... and for that, I am very grateful.

This book is simply amazing. I read this book four times in a month before I even decided to write this review. It is only 105 pages, but it is a lot to digest, and it is a book that every time you read it you gain a new piece of knowledge. Judi Thomases, the author of "Wisdom's Game," has a background in astrology, tarot, psychic development and channeling. This book was channeled through her by The Brotherhood of Light Workers. Is that too "new agey" for you? Well don't let those things fool you; this book is DEEP regardless of your beliefs or religious background.
As I read this book, I remember it feeling like I was eating chicken soup on a cold rainy day, it was so comforting! The book talks about the game of life and how to turn suffering into joy. The book is separated into small chapters and before each chapter there is a preview and an inspirational quote. Each chapter is a gem within itself, explaining why we are here on this earth, and how to deal with pain in our lives. It offers new perspectives on life and anyone who reads this book can gain higher levels of consciousness just by reading the words of truth written within this book. "Wisdom's Game" exposes the bigger picture, the greater plan of life.
For example the first chapter's preview states: "Wisdom teaches that, while temporary pain is normal, continual suffering over its cause isn't necessary. We can instantly change our thoughts to take things more lightly." Another one of my favorite quotes in this book is from chapter five. "It is the impetus of suffering that always stimulates the greatest desire for change. Suffering, and nothing else, is the abrasion that produces wisdom." Oh my gosh! Of course it is! Aha! Light bulbs, everything went off inside of me! When I read that quote I felt a rush of understanding within myself. So many times, when I have gone through difficult times, I have asked the question why? Well within this book are the answers to the why of why we suffer, and how to deal with pain in a better way. I can really see myself re-reading this book, especially when I might be going through a difficult time.
This book is simply amazing and so needed for the human Light Workers in times like these. "Wisdom's Game" is truth and inspiration from cover to cover. I would say, if you have somehow stumbled across this book and this review, you HAVE to read it... no, you have been CALLED to read it. I would guarantee that anyone that picked up this book would gain something from it! Five stars plus!

This is one of the first crochet books I ever bought (about 10 years ago), and it is still one of my favorite books for making afghans. Even with so many other books in the market, I consider this one a staple. I just recently bought it again because my first one finally gave out on me. Highly recommended.

This is one of the books, that I've been looking for, everywhere, and when I found it at amazon, I didn't waste any time, in buying it.
The afghan patterns are all great, and worded so that we can understand them.

This crochet pattern book includes a wonderful variety of great patterns. Just purusing this book makes you want to crochet up every pattern inside...

This book has more beautiful patterns all in one book. Usually when you buy a book, it may have one or two patterns that spark interest, but I have never seen this quantity of unique patterns. I would recommend it to anyone who loves to create because these are truly creations.

This book is the best I have seen on enameling. Very informative on anything you need to know on the subject !! Cannot wait to purchase my suppies and get started !!!!

I've started enameling my Art Clay Silver pieces and needed an easy to follow guide, since my one enameling class gave me the basics but not enough to comfortably work on things in my studio without having a good reference book. "The Art of Enameling" has been great. It has sections on working with fine silver, which is a big help. The author writes well and the accompanying photos and tips are great. After reading through it, I feel a lot more comfortable and ready to tackle some projects.

This book is a comprehensive overview of most enameling techniques. It includes several projects with step-by-step instructions. This is a good resource book for beginning and intermediate enamelists.

I purchased this book for my daughter. She is an advanced metals major in college and was absolutely thrilled with this book. She was familiar with the work of the author and was very pleased to have detailed instruction as well as wonderful photographic examples of her work. If you are looking for great gift for an art major, you can't go wrong with this book.

I've owned this book since it was first published and learned much about the art from its pages. Last week I had the good fortune to take a week-long workshop with the author at the Revere Academy in San Francisco. We used the book as text and reference throughout a fantastic week of exploration. In person, Linda is every bit as informative and enthusiastic as her fine book would lead one to expect. For anyone who can't share the luck of those who have studied with her directly, this book is by far the most thorough, clearly written, beautifully illustrated enameling manual currently in print. If you want to learn The Art of Enameling, buy this book before any other!

This book has got to be one of the best and most comprehensive books out there on ribbonwork. It not only showcases the antique items where the colors have faded to perfect glory, but also incorporates the new and runs the gamut from embroidering with silk ribbon to forming flowers and bows of the ribbons.

This book is a wealth of inspiration and a source of continual referral for most any project using ribbon and will keep it's prominent place on my bookshelf!

This is the best book on ribbonwork. It incorporates many beautiful pictures of vintage and some contemporary work. The entire book is instructional (no silly projects to fill the pages!!!). The instructions are excellent and this is as close to a "beginners" introduction to the subject as I have been able to find. At first I was disappointed that there were very few photographs of instructions. Often the instructions use drawings and often drawings are the only examples of the completed piece. But, what I have come to love is the lack of pictures for instruction. This book achieves something many art/craft books fail to. It requires you to practice, to use a variety materials and to create your own color combinations. It makes the "copying" of another's work no concern, because basically, you cannot. The subject is so well covered you will have an understanding of it: from foliage, to flowers, to stabilizing your work for wear on clothing, hats, and pins, to stems and buds, to flat and dimensional, to texture and how to preserve your work, etc. I haven't found a better book and I do not expect to. I thank the author for covering subjects like the movement, or "dance," of the work and for challenging me with the drawings - to try it and then see how it looks. Last but not least, the author introduces a great way to figure how much ribbon you will need to make any project using any ribbon width! So you can make ANY size flower you want. Ms. Kling makes your journey an unexpectedly easy fall - into a creative medium more satisfying than anything I've dabbled in besides beads - which one can incorporate too, of course.

This book is right up there in the embroidery range of books. As a teacher of embroidery I find the ideas and the instructions are the best.
Have been using The Artful Ribbon since it was first available in Australia and this copy (second hand) was for one of my students. The quality, price and speed of delivery was excellent. Thank you.

I've seen most of the ribbon flower books that there are--and this is pretty much the best. It has instructions that are clear and very easy to follow and there are so many different ideas for you to use. Not just a couple of projects--so many for you to combine. I have taken this book out of the library so many times that I wanted to keep it. Then I remembered I could buy it online!!!

In comparison to the other books available, it has more projects and I think the directions are easier.

If you love ribbon flowers (I make them as accessories in a business partnership) you will absolutely love this book!

This book makes you want to try ribbon embroidery! The varieties of applications are well illustrated. Loved just looking at this book! Really improved my roses...
