For the Twin Cities and surrounding area, this is the best map book of it's kind. It has sections describing many of the important sites, great downtown maps for Minneapolis and St. Paul plus a number of the smaller cites and towns near by. It has nice color detail, zip codes and easy to use directions for finding places of interest.

Yet another chestnut!

This small book is a must if you love Berry. The first tale describes a day of work in a tobacco patch for Berry's hard working farmer, Elton Penn. I like to imagine my great grandfather being like Elton, so full of grace and honesty.

Wheeler Catlett is the star of the second story, and you see this beautiful man driving in a way that nearly ignores the modern highway that is written so nastily across the farmlands. The story is funny and moving to its final sentence.

It is definitively a good book. It is easy to read for everyone trying to get some knowledge about Digital Television. Its 3D graphics are a very nice way to illustrate the concepts. It also includes a color plate with some of the illustrations found around the book.

It is not a highly technical book so everybody could read it. Its brief and concise explanations will take you along the way to understand the most difficult sections even if you are not familiar with the topic.

Most of the book is written from an European perspective but it is not hard to use the things you learn from the North American view. Sometimes, but not always, there are comparisons to the American standards and that helps a lot. The American appendix is quite short for my taste. It is only 20 pages long, of which 8 are full of drawings of areas of coverage of American satellites leaving us with just 12 pages to read.

The people in Europe looking for an easy and nice way to understand digital television should definitively get it.

For people in North America, you could buy it too, but my advice is not as strong as for the European. If you enjoy comparing things and learning from practices at other parts of the globe (which I find to be a more enriching experience), this is the book for you. But, if you are looking for something fast to learn only from your side, you should be thoughtful of your decision.

A must in any Statistician's personal library

This book was providencial during my Master in Statistics research. It is THE reference when it comes to discrete distributions, a topic in Stats which has bloomed in the last two decades. This new edition covers some state-of-the-art topics in the field, such as mixture distributions and new families of discrete random variables. It is well written, but never verbose: it cuts to the chase and will be of great help to a practitioner in dire need of an arcane test. And finally, believe it or not, discrete random variables are FUN. The more you know about them, the more you perceive they can be applied in almost any practical situation. And you don't need much more than the contents of this book to be an expert.

Clear discussion of some very pressing issues
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-15
For a great description of what this book is about, check the Book Description listed above.

As the book description says, the authors focus primarily on three issues where America can improve upon good economic times, rather than descend upon ravenous political infighting. Not only do the authors do a great job in presenting their arguments clearly, but they also take both economic and sociological factors into account in the proposals that they make. This sort of focus is rare throughout a lot of the sort of political discourse we hear today, and it serves to keep the book interesting from cover to cover.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is tired of hearing little more than political rhetoric in the whole discussion of some of the most pressing issues the U.S. faces today.

Utopia is the book I read when I need to remember how amazing and hopeful a mind, the world can be. Utopia is the funniest book in the universe, from the Utopian no copyright to the Utopian address book and astonishing index. Everyone should read this book. It is a TEXTBOOK of wonder. If everyone could write like Bernadette there would be no more wars and hunger.

curious, breaking the first protocol of a review--i can't be sure whether or not i know this book. i am a long-time entranced reader of barnes' work, including those that even the usual fan finds rather hermetic and intentionally obfuscationist. i recommend her work to everyone who i imagine might have the patience and love of language--and that historical milieu--to journey with djuna through her touching and labyrinthine prose. i thought it might be useful to someone rather familiar with her other works that a long-time reader can't presently recall this title and am excited to look again at a corner of ms. barnes' fascinating life and career that i've lost track of. every time i pass patchin place in the west village i silently salute her unique contribution to my life and letters.

Today, more and more business leaders are beginning to realize that it's not enough to just make a buck, but that their business legacy should be something more -- something that does lasting good for customers and communities. In their book, Values Sell, authors Nadine Thompson and Angela Soper provide numerous real-world examples of companies -- including Tom's of Maine, Seventh Generation, Honest Tea, and many others -- that are living their values, making a good profit, and transforming people all at the same time. If you're a business owner, executive, or manager wondering how to turn your purpose into profit, this is the book for you. And if you're an employee who hopes to influence your own company and move it in a more socially responsible direction, this too is the book for you. Highly recommended.
