As a 4-H entomology leader it was pretty frustrating not being able to help my kids find what kind of tiger beetle they found. Unless we got lucky, species IDs were almost impossible without a trip to the University of Michigan libraries. With Pearson's work, I no longer have those problems. Although scientific in its presentation, it's still accessible enough for my 10-year-olds to figure and use. Beautiful scale photos and illustrations. Thanks !

As an entomologist, I have seen and used many a field guide. This guide is one of the best. Color plates are not cluttered, and each has a scale bar. Distribution maps are crisp and easy to understand. Keys are excellent, with plenty of illustrations. Checklist is included, and the sections on ecology/behavior and conservation are well done. This is a must-buy for any Cicindelid enthusiast!

I bought this book when I was a college student. I love it! I found my husband because of this book's help! The funny thing is...Right before I got married, my mom worried about me so much. She bought this book and sent it over to me. :) ....Moms always worry about you, no matter how old you are. They think you are only 3 months old...

I am happily married for 7 years with twins now. :)

This book helped me get "ready" to meet my now fiance. I cannot praise it enough, and I credit this single book with helping me make the breakthrough away from micromanaging every person I dated, to letting it all flow so I could find the person who I felt like myself around (and her too!). And don't forget the sections on not wasting a single second on someone who is unavailable to you. How many of us have pursued such time waisters?

In 1990 I read this book and was fascinated with the insights. But I was about to start graduate school in a different state, so I wasn't ready to begin looking. Shortly before I graduated, I told my co-worker that I planned to be married within a year, much to his skepticism. Nine months later, I was married, and I'm still happily married more than ten years later.

The hidden beauty of this book is how it gave me life skills to recognize the value of the person that is my wife, through very difficult times.

Only Three Exclusions for Incompatibility

Review Date: 2007-08-05
As the title makes clear, this book is a repudiation of the notion of a perfect mate. Sills, the author, allows the person to make an "I wouldn't consider as a candidate for a mate anyone who..." list, but with only three entries. And one has to be specific, and this can be very difficult. The 3-limit list owes to practical reasons, if nothing else: "No one I've every met has been such an exquisite package themselves that he or she was entitled to enjoy contempt for more than three characteristics of other human beings. It's not only self-inflating, it's self-defeating."

Sills allows for some relationships to begin with fireworks, and others to develop gradually. She also believes that no one in a relationship should feel entitled. After all, many men come home to fix their own dinners, and many women have to care for their home and children as well as earning an income.

So how do you know if you've found the right person? Sills comments: "Does your prospective mate's view of you increase your self-respect? Does his or her attraction to you help you feel attractive? Does that person bring out or enhance the things you consider your strengths? Does he or she soften your failures and shore up your weaknesses? Are you a better version of yourself as you experience it because of your connection?"

A brilliant humanist takes on the big questions

For most of us, life's big questions aren't about meaning and immortality. They're about the challenge and the difficulty of finding love in a world that extols love as the highest good. For all the enthusiastic praise of love, there's precious little in the way of instruction books about how to find it.

Sills' book is a serious book about a desperately important question. It's written with a wry, light-hearted touch that makes the advice so much easier to follow. You're almost left with the impression that you thought of these ideas yourself and that you're a better person for it. The author's ouvre continued with A Fine Romance,Fine Romance which is a natural history of courtship and the extremely wise Excess BaggageExcess Baggage: Getting Out of Your Own Way-a book that is at once clever and good and supremely useful.

How to Stop Looking should be the first book you buy for any newly-single friend or for yourself if you're wondering where all the love has gone.

He grew up in Washington DC and at the age of eighteen he left the USA, and lived in numerous different countries over the following seventeen years. Kristen started his career as a Falcon [Studios] model in 1981, and within two years later he became one of the foremost photographers of the male nude for several international publications. In 1989, Kristen released his first gay erotic video CARNIVAL IN RIO, which was filmed at his home base in Brazil. I innitially had difficulty to get this desirable item from Amazon through the custom (not to mention that they also lawlessly retained my TITAN MEN and KARL LAGERFELD BODYDANCE & WATERWAVE) but then... thanks to BOOKAZINE store chains in Bangkok and Pattaya! Fans of Bruno Gmunder Verlag books from Malaysia and Singapore can now enjoy a "delicious" selection in wide open display.

MEN OF KRISTEN BJORN is a satisfactory male photography collection to any worshipper of those dark, brooding looking GODs on earth. Every single precious page is lusciously printed and an upclose revealing to some of Bjorn's famous video stars. Seductive eyes. Deep, ethnic coloured hair and polished-like skin. Voluptuous arms and forechest. Thick, veiny and uncircumsized (plus a horse sized model) that is enough to leave you mouth wet.

Unpretentiously erotic, don't miss this noteworthy collectible print of goodness. (Also look up to the new, equally fascinating TASTE OF ITALY.)

Some of you may think that this book is a bit pricey.Well, let me dispel this notion for you.It is an excellent hardcover edition:120 full-color pages of thick,superb-quality paper, that is almost impossible to stain. My guess is that the paper could withstand several sloppy kisses without even the slightest damage. And there is no doubt in my mind that you WILL get the urge to kiss the pictures! If you are familiar with Kristen Bjorn's spectacular work and already love his choice of men,you will simply go crazy about this book! But even if you've never heard Kristen's name before (highly unlikely) or you are not very fond of latin men,the book will still leave you mesmerized. The men featured in this collection are all creatures of unparalleled beauty and masculinity. They are mainly South Americans with mixed ethnical origin (there is even an African American with blue eyes!),something that gives them a unique charm.(There are of course some of Kristen's Eastern European models as well.)But no matter their ancestry, the majority of them is tanned by the tropical sun in the most pleasing manner. And their exquisite bodies are the epitome of fitness and virility. From their big watery eyes and fleshy lips to their large pectorals and enticing nipples and down to their...sizeable genitals (mmm!),only one word can describe them:perfection! The overall atmosphere is enhanced by the spectacular tropical scenery in exterior shots or by the luxurious and aristocratic decor in indoor photos. One could think that the images are a bit "tame" compared to Bjorn's overwhelmingly arousing movies. But the photos in this book are not just stills from a movie. They stand as separate works and are very exciting on their own. So,if you like real men depicted in all their splendor and don't mind spending money for your passions, you should,by no means, miss this book!

In the depths of a dark, dank winter evening, these photographs of beautiful, swarthy men will bring you summer sunshine. When I see Kristen Bjorn models, I always wonder where he found them. Neither I nor anyone I have ever known has ever had a sighting of one of these gods in the flesh. If they were paintings instead of photographs, I'd swear they came from the artist's imagination.

For those familiar with Bjorn's books and erotic videos, this is just much more of a very good thing. Even if you prefer blonds-- and gentlemen do-- you'll change your mind after a run-through of these models ready for action. There's only one man here who could be classified as a blond. But there are lots of Latinos and black men-- and a few with that unique combination of black hair and blue eyes.

The models are posed at the beach, on mountains, on leather sofas, in the jungle, and the hooty cover shot with purple irises. My favorite photo is of two nude men with a view of Rio I believe in the background. All the photos are flawlessly composed and in glowing color. Several of the shots have 3 or 4 or 5 buffed men in them, all the same height, in keeping with Bjorn's vision of perfection.

A Falcon model, himself, before he went to the other side of the camera, Bjorn reminds of that and includes a color photo of himself, along with a short bio at the end of the book. He's every bit as handsome as the men he photographs.

I recommend this book to all dog owners, regardless of breed. For those Labradorially inclined, the breed-specific information is invaluable, honest, and detailed. For Labradorians and all other dog owners, the behavior and training sections are some of the best I've read. This book is comprehensible and comprehensive.

The layout and writing style make the information extremely accessible. The information itself is extremely detailed and important to all dog owners. Joel and Eve have succeeded in explaining the secrets of making a good dog into a great dog, through management and training.

It's no surprise this book is so popular. Not only is it about one of the most wonderful and popular breeds of dog today, but it is chock full of information vital to dog owners of any breed.

In my capacity as a professional dog trainer, I have had occasion to work with puppy owners who have read this book, and I have to say "What a difference a book makes"--this book! Owners who have read this book understand how their dogs' minds work, and grasp what I have to teach them about training and problem solving that much easier. Thank you, Joel and Eve, for helping me do my job better!

My first cookbook!

Review Date: 2007-09-24
This was the first "real" cookbook (as opposed to kids' cookbook) that I ever owned myself. I bought it when I went abroad to Ireland for a year, since there was a kitchen in my student apartment and no meal plan at the college there. This cookbook taught me a lot of simple techniques for quick meals. The recipes I've made to the letter are very tasty, and even better, they're a great jumping-off point. Once you know how to make their chili, for example, you can get creative and use different meats, add interesting seasonings, etc. Once you know how to pan-saute thin pork chops, you can do so with a whole variety of sauces or spices. I recommend this to anyone just learning how to cook, especially busy people and college students. It makes cooking seem like less of a daunting task and helps you get tasty stuff on the table in a short amount of time. It also has the invaluable sections on how to keep a kitchen that will make cooking less work: how to stock your pantry, how to organize your cabinets, how to stock your fridge, etc. It also has several great party menus in the back that make entertaining very simple. The tips for making things even faster and easier, or for getting more creative, are excellent as well.

This book is a rare example on how it is easy to teach the concepts, show practical examples, and summarize everything in 250 pages without relying on unnecessary phrases and words that just repeat the same idea again and again and increase the size of the book to 1000 pages. The author provides detailed explanations on the structure and functioning of distribution channels and depicts a way to effectively build a succesful channel from scratch. He goes beyond the basic concepts to show additional and important information on antitrust laws and international distribution and competition.

I would recommend reading this book and keeping it as one of your reference books to consult whenever you're up to consider changes in the distribution system that arise because of competitive pressures, changes in customer behavior, or new product launches.

Brad Stine has written a real funny book with a lot of spiritual truths. It is a good read for Christians as well as people who question God's existence. He does a good job talking about things non-Christians see "us" do which turns them off to God. He also has a great chapter about agnostic/atheists beliefs and why what they say contradicts themselves. HIGHLY recommend reading it and giving it to a friend who is questioning God. This book has the potential to lead people to Christ. I am giving it to a friend to read who is questioning God. The great thing is that it is a humorous read. Easy to follow, with compelling arguments.

I saw a story online about a group called Godmen and heard about a Brad Stine mentioned. Hopped over to Amazon, read about this book, bought it and read it cover to cover in one sitting. Trust me, I don't do this. I've been working on Anna Karenina for more than a year, but I digress...

This book has so much common sense and just shatters the silliness we Christians find ourselves part of. I laughed out loud several times (gotta love the word 'nipple')and even got a bit teary a time or two...there's much to ponder, quite a bit of poignancy and there's a bit of a two-by-four upside the head action, too. Just what is needed.

Okay, so masterpiece is a bit strong of a word for his writing. In Brad's first book, he is willing to take on the Christians who have a very narrow view of the Bible and Christ. He covers such interesting topics as a minister witnessing in a strip club as well as other "assumed truths" that make Christians look bad. Brad has a way with words that can make us all look at ourselves and wonder, "why am I taking this all so seriously?" Perfect read for someone who considers themselves better Christians than everyone else......if they are willing to learn from it.

I had heard Brad Stine's comedy before and even had one of his CDs. Then, I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert last week.

His performance was fabulous. He is not only hilarious; he is extremely bright and relevant.

After his show, I bought some of his material. One of the things I got was, `Being A Christian Without Being An Idiot'. The title is certainly provocative. The material inside is relevant and thought provoking.

The main purpose of this book is to get Christians to think about many things that they consider to be Christian `truths', but which are oftentimes more about cultural and denominational traditions. He makes the point that, `Christians are different from each other in our theology, denominations, and social interaction,' and goes on to contend, `That's AS IT SHOULD BE!'

Some of the `assumed truths' that Stine dissects include the following: Satan causes most of the problems for Christians, drinking and smoking are sins, all `true' Christians will be offended by the same things, and sinners are worse people than I am. There are also several others.

Regarding smoking, he makes several points: 1) the Bible doesn't say anything about smoking, 2) `It does bring up gluttony, though, and our country by far has more health issues with overeating than they do with smoking, 3) many Christians don't drink or smoke, but have serious weight problems. He says, `Some temples have some extra rooms added on that weren't in the original architecture'. He goes on to point out that he is not judging, nor is he trivializing smoking. He uses this example to show that our culture does not take gluttony as seriously as smoking.

He points out such inconsistencies as the intense focus that many Christians have on the gay marriage issue while virtually ignoring the sky high divorce rate for heterosexuals including Christians.

Mr. Stine manages to get his humor in even while making serious points. While discussing the reaction of some Christians to the Harry Potter books, he talks about some book burnings that have occurred. He makes the point that Christians should be working to `draw people to the cross, not send them fleeing in horror.' He says, `I think a good rule of thumb is, if HITLER tried it, you may want to go another direction!'

This is really a terrific book. It is one that will make Christians think about important issues while having fun reading it. I highly recommend it. I also recommend that if you ever have a chance to see Brad Stine in concert, you take advantage of it.

This book is so fun to read! My 9 month old baby boy loves to touch the caterpillars and turn the pages himself. The butterflys at the end of the book are a great surprise for him. Highly recommended!

My 2-year old son loves this book! He loves touching the caterpillars and then always says "OOOH!" at the end when he sees the pop-up butterflies. He never gets tired of it. Edit: he ripped out all the butterflies. They are too flimsy. But he still likes to look at the bugs on each page and touch the catepillars.

This is by far my daughter's favorite book. She immediately took a liking to it at 4-5 months, because the book has bright colors and the popup at the end excited her. She is 11 months now and gets so excited when she even sees the book. She can't wait to get to the end to see the popup butterflies. She has torn them when she tries to grab them, so I'm buying a replacement, but no other books that we have gets such a positive reaction. Whenever my daughter needs a distraction, all I have to do is pull this book out.

We read this book every night !

My son loves all these kind of books. Ladybugs, butterflies, monkeys, the stars one too. We keep searching for more like these since he loves them so much. All them are to be read each night without fail. He has started to count with me as I turn the page and he is not even 2 yet !

Very popular at our house.

This book is positively awesome. The colors pop, there are lots of fun pictures to look at, and the caterpillars are fun to touch. My son, who is not yet 1 1/2, loves it. The only problem I have is the final spread, which is a pop-up page featuring butterflies. My son adores the butterflies and wants to see the final page as much as possible. He does make a special effort to be gentle with the butterflies, but they're pretty fragile. One has a bent wing now, and the wing sometimes catches on the other butterflies when we try to close the book. Other than that, though, I have no complaints. These wriggly, wiggly caterpillars are definitely welcome in our home!
