This book opened my eyes to the prison system in relation to African-Americans. Being a white person, there are things I read that never occurred to me. A must read!

A Brilliant Compilation!

Doris Platt has done her homework. She has managed to compile an amazing collection of inspiring stories that invoke all types of emotions. Mrs. Platt has taken stories from the rich and famous to the average everyday guy and linked them together in such a way that you have to smile in assurance that all is not lost in this world filled with so much gloom and desperation. Regardless of who we are, and what we do, we are still our only reflection of our own humanity. I enjoyed this book as I am sure you will too. It would make a wonderful gift to anybody that can appreciate the simple, beautiful things that make our lives worth living. Truely inspirational as we never know who these Sentinels are as we travel along the way.

More Than A Book -- An Invitation To Be Great & Grateful

Review Date: 2005-03-19
In a world seemingly obsessed with material success and pop "icons," author-compiler-extraordinaire, Doris S. Platt, lays down her glove with this dazzling, inspirational book that gently (but-ever-so-profoundly) invites us into a realm occupied by the greatest of them all -- our Sentinels Along The Way. These are the huge souls and guides all readers will recognize in their own lives: the ones who made the difference often between their very survival or not; ability to cope or not; to have faith or not; to fight the good fight or not; to brave the unthinkable or not; and to dream the impossible or not.

And with a courageous strength of conviction, this brilliant author-compiler has made her case complete by achieving this feat through an astounding array of true stories (written by a most impressive group of contributing writers, and a few celebrities drawn from a refreshingly crystalline well of many cultures and countries).

You must buy this book! You deserve to feel great for the good you have done in this difficult life that we all share as part of humanity. You also deserve to remember, with gratitude (like the stories in Sentinels Along The Way) those who helped you get there. Oh, and the book itself is a work of art in design and composition -- a feast not only for the heart, but for the eyes as well.

Speed to Market: How to Cut Lead Time & Increase Profits in Job Shops & Custom Manufacturing Environments

Speed to Market is a must-read, easy read.

Review Date: 2000-10-26
It's a pleasure reading a book that uses everyday language and minimizes the use of trendy buzz-words. The seven chapters are divided logically and go from the general to the specific. This allows the reader to capture the essence of the message without reading long passages before getting to a point. The reader can visualize his own job shop and pick and choose which solutions are pertinent.

Mr. Bozzone's experience and knowledge are evident throughout the book. His viewpoint brings a dimension and a dynamic quality which allows the reader to benefit from the many "real-life" examples peppered throughout the pages. The many models and illustrations help the reader understand the concepts and operational strategies that improve job shop performance.

From a training perspective, Speed to Market provides a sound basis for developing programs that would help people at all levels to understand the intricacies of managing a job shop. The book is an excellent tool for constructing a curriculum that would benefit experienced managers who need to re-think their current situation, as well as people who are new to the job shop environment.

It is clear that owner-operators and managers of job shops would be well served by having their people understand and use the concepts and information presented in this book.

Speed to Market is a "must-read". Speed to Market is an "easy read". Speed to Market should be on your bookshelf! Speed to Market should be on your bookshelf!

A gem...dubfounding in it's Practicality

Speed to Market by Vincent Bozzone is one of those books that is dumbfounding in its practicality. It makes you wonder why more how-to books aren't written this way.

Speed to Market is a refreshing and unique book on "how to cut lead time and increase profits in job shops and custom manufacturing environments." Not only is this one of the few books available on this heretofore ignored topic, it is written as a step-by-step manual for designing and running a profitable job shop, incorporating detailed structure and process elements as they relate to the bottom-line. Actual client studies help make this book even more pragmatic.

Once you read this book, you realize that Vince Bozzone really is a rare expert in job shops and process improvement design.

Yes, a lot of pages in this book and plenty of tables.
As title says--The state of working America-- and I am part of it I expect to see reflections of real life and this part is missing.
All the authors talk is wages, wages and more wages.
What is real life? Real life is prices, what is available, crime considerations, where to live etc.
Authors take family as main entity which is far from reality; reality is 51% of american households are single not family and this is the trend.
Mobility is second consideration as working people have to move to survive. Yes, my income define where I live and how crime affect my decisions and my income define what I eat and where and my income define why I am single. And, yes, we have 47 millions americans without health insurance and about 5 millions homeless which are part of working America. But this is not reflected in book.
The main question of this type of book should be--why nothing changes and how to change.

This book is exactly what I wanted. I'm a part-time journalist writing for a small town newspaper and I like numbers. Nothing is better than a percentage or a statistic to support your story. This book has them all and an explanation to support their accuracy or inaccuracy. It is a great tool. It is a must for anyone who wants to know "The State of Working America" - which I do.

Change Is Needed Now and Here's Why

If you can wade your way through the statistics, this book is enlightening and edifying, often sad. The commentary and interpretation help clarify the wealth of information. It graphically illustrates that nothing has changed after all these years of hope and promises for change: the rich keep getting richer, the poor keep getting poorer, poverty is endemic to our tired, unimaginative economic system, etc., etc., etc.

This book caused me to re-read Kevin Phillips' book "The Politics of Rich and Poor," published in 1990. It provides statistical and anecdotal evidence of the negative effects of Reagan-omics on our social system, much as Bush-enomics has. I even went farther back and re-read Michael Harrington's "The Other America," the seminal, monumental book of its time in 1962 about poverty in America.

These books along with so many others make you ask, as we've asked so many times, "When will it ever change?" I guess making people aware of the problem, although it's readily apparent in everyday life, is the place to start. These books, representing 45 years of rhetoric, make you agonizingly aware that things have gone nowhere but down. So, read all of them.

This book is something that I will refer to time and time again. It is not only for people in their 30's, it is especially useful for people in their 50's and 60's. Ms. Myers writes like she is talking to a friend, which makes understanding her ideas easier.

I found this book so hilarious that I bought 3 of them and will give them to friends as presents. Judy motivates without trying to and you find yourself in a position to ease into a workable workout without losing sleep over it. The good humor throughout - it really does not stop - is a refreshing new leaf in the broad spectrum of fitness books available. Judy never makes you feel that you have to be built like an athlete already and then it is simply a question of making an already perfect body into an even more perfect body. I recommend this book to everyone, including those who already have an abundance of fitness books...

With the passing of Lew the industry has lost a great giant. Fortunately his great knowledge has been captured and preserved in this book. After explaining in great detail the system of symmetrical components, the book explains through practical examples how to use symmetrical components to solve problems. The book is an excellent text and reference book. Items covered include line impedances, machines, and transformers. Underground and overhead line impedances and mutuals are covered extensibly.

Well-researched, easy to use. Written for the classroom teacher but equally useful for the private teacher. You can either follow the book page by page, or choose and pick the amount and kind of information you want to use.
I also own the Teacher's Notes for "Mozart's Magic Fantasy" as well as "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" and "Song of the Unicorn". The amount of reasearch that went into these Notes is quite impressive. They are all wonderful resources and, in my opinion as a private teacher, worth twice the money!

This 45 minute tape tells the story of Tchaikovsky's visit to America in 1891, and how he befriends two children. It's part of the excellent Classical Kids series of tapes that introduce children to classical composers. See the Great Tapes for Kids Web site (http://www.greattapes.com) for more information about this and other kids tapes.

Written by Marie Seuffert specifically for beginning readers age 3-6, Tiny Red's Trip To Earth is a gentle story about a young angel who, mostly by accident, comes down to earth - but only for a little while. Enhanced with the artwork of Frances Palmer, Tiny Red's Trip To Earth is a very comforting book meant for young people who have lost a friend too soon and cannot understand why, Tiny Red's Trip To Earth is a story of hope, comfort, and faith in God.
