"Life Cycle Reliability Engineering" has an interesting format that takes the reader through the initial product development stages, reliability program development, reliability definitions and allocation approaches, robust design through design of experiments, product testing methods, and warranty analysis. Accelerated life testing, degradation testing, and stress screening methodologies are emphasized in the book and represent a significant portion of the content. The reader is left with a comprehensive reliability analysis toolset that can be utilized throughout the entire product life cycle. The ability of the author to present real world industrial applications through examples is beneficial and useful for students and practitioners.

One of the best books in reliability engineering... It should be a nice textbook for reliability engineering courses at graduate level. In addition to those comprehensive theoretical materials, the book provides many real-world examples and case studies, many of which came from the author's years of experience in this area. With the help of these examples, practitioners should be able to understand the associated statistical techniques and utilize them in their own reliability practices.

Breathtaking, Imaginative, & Sensual.............

This is one of the most fascinating books of male nude photography that has ever been published. This photographer has quite an imagination and a talent in offering up a dream-like, very erotic display of male beauty. The shots in "Luxure" are primarily from the calendar series "Erotika" and "Alchemy", and includes images created for the Sydney 2000 Olympics. There are 80 pages of sepia-tone and color images of aggressively masculine nude men, in fantasy, mythology & fetish outfits, as well as the four season's images that will remind you of Pierre & Gilles style of photography.

Richard de Chazal is one of Australia's top haute-couture designers, and photographers. He has a style all his own, which is truly brilliant and unique in its conception and finality. This is a beautifully designed book, though not large, with a soft leather-like cover. This is one of my favorite books from a photographer who I hope publishes more of his beautiful images in the near future.

a mammalogist bible

without doubt Wilson and Reeder's book is THE source of information for people looking for mammals in museums and old scientific publications. the superb listing of synonyms, the listings of the scientist describing the clades, and the brief biogeographic notes makes this book invaluable for people having any taxonomic question. The main attitude seems to be one of splitters, giving a lot of specific names to various populations others consider a single species, the biogeography can be a little more detailed, but there is no other source with that thoroughness and completeness in mammalian taxonomy.
I'm anxiously waiting a new edition

Management and Information Systems In Human Services: Implications for the Distribution of Authority and Decision Making By Richard K. Caputo Ph.D.

Caputo's book, published in 1988 is an excellent resource for high level administrators. Although, it is an academic pursuit, Caputo, does a fine job of describing implications for decision making, authority and legitimacy in human service organizations. The application of information systems in organizations are not neutral; they affect the authority structure, decision load and power of the organization. In other words: How are decisions made and information used in your agency?

Caputo probes the nature of humans service organizations and discusses how they are different than profit & nonprofit. The differences have a direct bearing on the functions of management and the uses of information within them.

Caputo includes footnoted material and an excellen reference list for the dedicated leader in the information age.

MIS in organizations & affects: structure, decision, service

FIVE STAR ALL THE WAY

This is the best book I came across in three years of graduate school. This is a very comprehensive book with a foward vision for human service organizations that require the best in structure, efficiency, decision making and service delivery.

The implementation of MIS and their integration in an organization will directly affect the power base, authority structure and reporting relationships. This is critical to executives in service organizations and government who make decisions that will lead all of us into the future.

Caputo examines authority, decision load, and MIS that will enable the reader to think differently about efficiency. He also considers socio-culture and philosophical issues that reveal the global transformation of the way we think about problems and how we resolve them.

This book mainly shows how to manage the logistics system. It also includes other managerial functions related to drug supply as general management, financial, HR, MIS. It is very "friendly" for readers and will be so appreciated by high and middle level managers and other health professionals. The book becomes a tool for training people on health logistics management and the support system around. The main issues of theory and practical cases are founded on third world countries. It is an improved second edition and I strong recommend this book for managers, researchers and teachers in the field of health services management.

All history buffs have heard of Meyer Lansky, Al Capone, and Bugsy Siegel, but few have heard of Paul Volpe, the boss of the Toronto Mafia from the early-1960's up to his death in 1983. I picked up this book, intrigued by the fact that it was someone different and, especially, someone from another country. The book detailed the Canadian mob while weaving in the biography of Volpe - his bootlegging days as a young man, to his initiation into the Mob, his stints in jail, and then the details of his death. If you are a history buff who enjoys reading about the Mafia and are interested in learning more about Mafia bosses from other countries, then this is definitely a book you'll want to check out. The only problem is that it's rare and you might have a difficult time finding copies.

I have always been interested in the mob and, when I saw this book, I had to read it. Unfortunately, it was out of print, so I had to do a special order to get it and I got it. It was very good and Paul Volpe was a very interesting gangster to read about. It kinda sucks how his life ended the way it did; but, other than that, it was one of the most interesting biographies that I ever read.

This is a fabulous set! I use it in my classroom of 2nd graders. I normally have my students rest with the lights out for 10 minutes or so after lunch and we listen to classical music. This is the first time all year I have not had to remind anyone to stay silent. They are completely taken with these tapes! Several kids have asked me if they can please stay after school and finish listening to the story! This has launched an unexpected and wonderful teaching unit on the classical composers. To hear a group of seven year olds talking about how eccentric Beethoven was is a pretty exciting thing!

I bought this set for my children because it's been recommended by so many sources. We were NOT disappointed! My kids love this set so much that we're going to buy the Volume 2. The drama involves fictional characters that help to tell the true stories of the composers. The music of the composer in question provides the background music. A welcome replacement for Barney tapes;-)

banquet for thought

Review Date: 2005-06-16
As western music attempts to break out of the constrictions imposed on it by the traditions of our culture, not much has been offered verbally as a positive basis to work from. Edwin Prevost examines and explains what is generally considered invisible and inexplicable - the deeper implications (musical, cultural, and social) of improvising, of what it means to make music. Well-written and well-reasoned, this is the only book of its kind I have come across. In some future decade this may prove to be a turning point in how we think of music (equivalent in a way to 4'33", Pierrot Lunaire, and Free Jazz), a step taken when the "avant-garde" stopped seeing itself as a reactive entity and became a pro-active one instead.

although widely practiced improvisation is seldom discussed

Review Date: 1998-06-09
If you are curious about improvisation by white musicians it seems there is not much to read. The world of jazz usually absorbs all the discussion. Well maybe the reason is the music Mr.Prevost performs with AMM is not entirely marketable materials. AMM is a London based ensemble began in the late Sixties. What we find in "No Sound is Innocent" is the thoughts, reflections on the experience in dealing with sounds directly. This is where the "ethics" I beleive emanates from. Something Cornelius Cardew( a founding AMM member) certainly practiced. Prevost has such reverance for sound, how it is produced that we become engaged in his agenda . For instance he speaks about the twisting of a mouthpiece, turning a plectrum of a string instrument. And we also find historical data. Ancient Chinese armies would frighten their oncoming enemies by thunderous metal sounds, Many times averting a massacre. There is a complete history of AMM, an ensemble whose sound/timbre actually evolves over the years every bit as energized as the best jazz, but not quite as obvious, and as timbrally complex as the best we see/hear from Boulez's IRCAM in Paris. If you improvise music, piano or string or prepared guitar, and always wondered where a context resides it is here in this book. At first I thought Prevost would give us a glimpse at an AMM rehearsal, but dealing directly with sound in a live performance is the philosophy here, anathema to composition ( a profanity in this book ).This book is like a diary of sound and associations in creating it in the real live world, no abstractions no images, no bagatelles or nocturnes. And then this leaves us with a natural reverance to sound, like saving the torture of animals today from the monolith science/cosmetic conglomerates. Prevost and AMM are rescuing sound from the vagaries and concoctions of the marketplace. Mr Prevost with AMM has equally gifted accomplices in prepared guitarist, electronic/monger Keith Rowe, and the remarkable pianist John Tilbury who has ! been known to warm-up the mostly coldly abstract music the avant-garde has produced. We learn where AMM's source for their sounds/imagination inhabits from natural sounds, thunder storms, the breaking of huge ice sheets.(Vancouver).Prevost describes these situations and finds a fascinating context to make music. We never sense the history of music is around the corner, always a fresh untarnished approach to sounds and their creation. It's a rarity to find this much reverance for sound in an age of homogenized pablum serious musicians seemed magnitized toward these days. including the best of those who resemble the AMM agenda. But then this book is a source for collective reflection and a musical/ radical/ democracy., which I'd say is long in coming and Prevost's ultimate contribution toward creativity in today's new music scene.
