Dinosaur Atlas is a fascinating and informative survey of dinosaurs which will appeal to any young reader interested in an easy atlas with over 25 full-color maps concentrating on the range and distribution of dinosaurs and their environments. John Bindon's illustrations are realistic, fun accompaniments to the geographic foundations of this appealing atlas.

"The Dinosaur Atlas" written by Don Lessem and illlustrated by John Bindon is a very good book for the novice and young readers (ages 8 to 12) just starting to read about dinosaurs. As this book takes the reader on an adventure through the Late Triassic through the Cretaceous Period.
I found that "The Dinosaur Atlas" to be well-appointed with 25 charts as to where the dinosaurs that are being excavated today are found. I hope that you'll find this book as interesting as I did as there are illustrations as to the relative size some of the dinosaur comparitive to humans.
"The Dinosaur Atlas" comes repleat with a world of information about dinosaurs, from books and videos to museums and dig programs in the back of the book that you can participate in. These are very helpful to keep a young mind interested in where to find dinosaurs. So, check out the cool books, videos, dig sites and museums. There is a glossary in the back of the book to help the young reader, as scientists often describe the world of dinosaurs by using hard to understand and pronounce terms this book helps in the definitions of these terms. And, of course, there is a very good index to this book to help the young reading in locating the dinosaur for the reader.
"The Dinosaur Atlas" is a solid 5 star book for the young reader and will pique their interest in dinosaurs and hold their interest throughout the book. This is a very good book for ages 8 through 12.

The seventh volume of the acclaimed "Selected Works of Gordon Tullock" series from Liberty Fund, The Economics And Politics Of Wealth Redistribution begins with an examination of the primary arguments advanced in favor of wealth redistribution. Gordon Tullock (currently a professor of law and economics, and a Distinguished Research Fellow in the Center for Study of Public Choice at George Mason University) then goes on to explore the real-world mechanisms and politics of redistribution in democratic countries, finding that redistribution primarily benefits the middle class and the politically savvy, while neglecting the deserving poor. This seventh volume drawn from the lifetime writings and lectures of one of America's most respected economists, concludes by proposing radical reforms to the modern welfare state.

A thoughtful and thought-provoking analysis of pathology in American culture

Review Date: 2005-08-11
In Economics As A Symptom Of Sadism, licensed clinical psychologist and academician Harold Kassel presents a thoughtful and thought-provoking analysis of pathology in American culture and education with special attention to the questionable endorsements economists make to advocate and justify inequalities with respect to income. Economics As A Symptom Of Sadism forcefully questions why American culture celebrates achievements in sports or celebrity - which are ultimately nothing more than putting a ball through a hoop or a hole, looking and behaving good for a camera, or being able to sing - while devaluing the real building-block professions, such as educating young people. Why do some individuals make salaries in the multiples of millions, especially if their work does little to protect human lives or prepare human lives for future challenges? Why do economists imply that people "choose" pitiable wages when they go into a low-benefit career path such as teaching? A teacher has only "chosen" to be a teacher - not to live barely above subsistence level. Economics As A Symptom Of Sadism rages at the excesses of capitalism that trample over those who cannot meet constantly shifting demands, but neither is it a pro-communism or pro-socialism book; instead, the author lays out his own prospective remedies to the severe and seemingly unjust imbalances, such as capping maximum salaries at a very comfortable level, and giving professors at universities less than their current level of absolute power over students - power that ensures those pursuing higher education are much less likely to buck the status quo, for fear of being shot down from their dreams by an irate teacher. A provocative book, brimming with passion for those who suffer the worst shortfalls of an increasingly globalized world; definitely worth reading, even if not all of its solutions are fully viable (for example, capping salaries would just prompt those so capped to emigrate to a nation that doesn't cap salaries...)

I found an autographed copy of this in my library's discard box, and it totally changed my life! After reading it, I feel that I know Harold Kassel. It's not just his dry sense of humor that won my heart ("Princess Dye," indeed!). It's the sage observations, dozens on every page, about a vital yet largely unknown topic. Economics, sadism, culture? No, something much more important! Let me quote just a few of my favorites:
"I have taken courses in several universities."
"I often eat breakfast out in the morning."
"I like teaching and speaking my own words. And I don't have an uncle in Hollywood."
"I always like to refer to the Serengeti."
"Suppose I were a vegetarian. Maybe I am."
Alas, as that last quote suggests, the book does leave a few loose ends. Let's hope for a sequel, and soon!

If you are mystified by "Hollywood accounting," this legal expose outlines over 80 clauses commonly found in feature film distribution contracts that might be considered unconscionable or immoral, revealing the formidible odds facing the "talent" side of the industry. A thorough explanation of why there's no "net" profit, and a sobering dose of reality for any creative person who believes they should be paid for making a good product. The introduction lists the LA DA's Office among those who should read it.

Though a little dated (not much has changed in the film industry), The Feature Film Distribution Deal is a must-read for every producer and every newly minted entertainment lawyer.
The author, a practising entertainment lawyer) covers typical/standard/boilerplate film industry deal contracts as issued by the big studios/distributors, and explains practically every line/item in them, and the definitions of the many contract terms.
BTW, ALL the terms of these contracts are rigged to screw independent producers out of net profit participaiton profits.
Then the author offers 'counter' negotiating points and the reasoning/arguments behind them.
He does state that success in using these counterproposals/arguments is limited due to the 'balance of power' between big studios and independent producers is tilted heavily in favour of the big studios.
The appendices are four distribution deal contracts. They're well worth the read, too, if only to familiarise oneself with them.
It is NOT a book to read quickly, but one to be read thoughtfully, to absorb and to learn the legal and business concepts in the contracts. The structure of each chapter makes this easy to do.

This excellent, strange, ultra-realistic novel shows that once firmly inside the head of Elliot, the main character, who is perfectly unjudged by his creator, the novelist, you can do almost anything, see everything, unflinching, unblinking. It's almost tragic perfection.

THE FIREBRAT is an amazing novel: addictive, endearing, and startlingly fresh. I don't know of any other book like it. Because of McConnell's remarkable insight into the furnace of the psyche, Elliot, his protagonist and narrator, exists -- from the first paragraph -- as a convincingly odd, unique individual. To read THE FIREBRAT is to live inside Elliot's head for a while; what happens to him happens to the reader. As a result, the climax is as devastating as it is entertaining. I highly recommend this novel.

I have gone thru this cook book more than any other cook book. I think this is absolutely stunning in many ways. It gives you dishes with pretty much classic taste combinations but then adds flavours in different unusual places ex. crab risotto with avocado sorbet.
Althought this shows very clearly how dishes are put together I think a professional chef is the one who still gets most out of this book. He also has special section about food chemistry.
This book ROCKS BIG TIME.
Happily waiting for the next book to come out...

I've tried all the recipes in this book and...WOW what a food paradise the author creates in your home. Almost every recipe is great (I just had a neutral feeling about a few of them) and they often make use of unconventional methods of cooking or combining ingredients (e.g. onion ice cream). However, how strange that may sound, the combinations are actually really nice and innovative. The only thing you need to remember is that you'll have to spend much more time with these recipes than with the traditional "scrambled eggs recipes". But the sensation to your palate will be heavenly!
