It's a decent book for one of the many CD/DVD media software programs, however the help panels are just as informative.

Now if they only wrote a book using Nero 6 Ultra Edition, the field would be widend.

This book starts with three basic assumptions:

First it presumes that you have or can acquire some sort of digital media which may be audio, photos, or video.

Second, it presumes that you have some kind of computer running Windows 2000 or XP, and the capability to record on CD's or better yet DVD's.

Third, there is the presumption that you want to take the digital media you have, alter it, modify it, combine it with other data, and produce some kind of media.

Most of the book is of tutorial format, that is, it leads you through various projects using a step-by-step approach. All of the major components of the Creator package are discussed. And then in the standard Part of Tens section that is common to most For Dummies books, this is turned around just a bit by looking at each of the ten components that make up the package to give you a better starting point when you have a project in mind.

There are very few resources that seriously recognize and tap the latent potential in kids, especially in this age bracket. As America's only leadership development program for 10-13 year olds, KidLead (www.kidlead.com) applauds these authors and recommends this book as a resource to KidLead parents. Thanks!

I'd recommend this to any parent who wants to help their 10 - 14 old year old kids focus on their strengths. The package has a couple of useful workbooks (one for parents and one for kids) and one access code to the so called online StrengthsExplorer test . The test is like the adult version (StrengthsFinder) except it's shorter and it is apparently based on research with kids . Looks like both SF and SE test are by the same company, Gallup. Btw, one of the reviewers made it sound like it's a bad thing that the kid version of the test is shorter than the adult version. Somehow I can't imagine a 10-year old focusing for about 30 minutes (that's how long it took me to do adult StrengthsFinder) answering a bunch of somewhat abstract questions on line. So, to me, the fact that the kid version of the test is shorter, just makes sense. Another difference between SF and SE is that the SE report consist of Top 3 strengths as opposed to Top 5 in StrengthsFinder for adults.
Overall, especially if you thought StrengthsFinder was insightful, this is worth doing with kids.

I had high hopes for this given my opinion of the Strengths Finder for adults. It's twice as expensive as the Strengths Finder and gives about half the value. The actual instrument (test) is very short, and the level of description about the strengths is too skimpy.

Not bad, but not worth it. Maybe Gallup's foray into this age bracket research will yield better results down the road.

Excellent resource for parents and small group leaders

As a parent of a teen boy, it was a wonderful resource to understand how he works and especially, how different his strengths are from mine. By naming his strengths, we could better use them to his advantage and frankly, ours too. We could appeal to his strengths in meeting homework deadlines, chores, etc.

Also, as a small group confirmation leader, I found the exercises to be useful for the boys as they faced awkward preteen years. They could go into situations knowing and naming their strengths and pull confidence from them even if they all handled similar situations differently. As with any inventory, the discussion that follows can be the most important and the prompts for parents or significant adults was helpful. The ability to see others as different and valued is so important at this or any age.

I picked up a signed copy of this book straight from the horses mouth... uh, hoof... well he handed it to me at the convention. I'm a big fan of Carl Macek's previous works including Robotech, and when I found out that he had writen a book I jumped at the chance to check it out.

I promised him that that once I had finished the novel I would post a review on amazon, so here I am, I hope you are reading this Mr. Macek!

War Eagles was originally concieved as a follow up by M.C. Cooper after his famous King Kong hit the screens. As I understand it, Carl was approached to write a screen play for the concept and was later given the chance to also write the novelisation as well. According to him, War Eagles was actually his first novel, and after having read through it and looking back at my own experiences working towards my comm/creative writing degree I'm happy to say that his first novel has turned out a lot better then most first attempts I've seen.

War Eagles is a nice smoothe read, great for those who are looking for somthing quick and fun, and what could be more fun then a story about giant birds of prey ripping the Third Reich a new one?!?

The novel is fast paced, too fast in some parts, my only real complaint is that some of the character relationships seemed to develop a little too quickly, but that's my personal taste. The characters are rounded if a bit static, and the setting and back stories make sense. I like how Mr Macek went the extra mile and made the supporting cast feel authentic. The style is very visual, with out being overly detailed, I had no trouble imagining the great birds in their natural habitat or doing battle in the skies above New York.

All in all War Eagles was a quick emjoyable read that managed to preserve the big screen feeling of the original M.C. Cooper films. Check it out!!!

"War Eagles" an amazing blast from the past!!!

I loved WAR EAGLES. It is right up my alley. An forgotten adventure story by the creator of KING KONG brought back to life by two dedicated writers.

The cover of the book states: "A Novel inspired by an original concept by Merian C. Cooper". That is enough right there to get any film buff's heart racing. I mean, you have a wonderful (and basically unknown) original story by the great Merian C. Cooper (KING KONG) and modern authors Carl Macek and Debbie Bishop bring it to life, raising it from the dead, so to speak. In addition to that, there is a wonderful forward by stop-animation legend Ray Harryhausen.

For me, it was a real page turner. If you love adventure stories set in the distant past and have a soft spot in your heart for great beasts like KING KONG, this is for you!

If you have children, check out Debbie Bishop's "The Faries Of Bladderwhack Pond" and the just published "Shadow Boys". Two really wonderful books.

While I enjoy science fiction and historical novels, the premise of this story seemed too far fetched for me to enjoy but surprisingly I found it well written and quite enjoyable. The story moved well and it kept my interest in the plot and characters so I was able to complete it in just two nights.

If anyone is looking for a great summer read, whether you're in to sci fi, historical novels or just reading about a good old fashioned patriotic hero, you won't be disappointed and, if you feel the concept is just a little too far out to be believable, you'll be in for a very pleasant surprise.

The book has a great help in understanding how other artists go about creating their work. I have always been very interested to know how artists have their setup in the studio, and he book has provided beautiful pictures of artist's desk and studio space. Besides, I thoroughly enjoyed samples of artwork that include concept drawings to finished art.

The entries were edited by Anita Silvey, distinguished editor at the Horn Book. The amount of information in this book is remarkable. In addition to the wealth of biographical information concerning authors and artists, there are sections of color plates of illustrations from notable children's books and a comprehensive index as well as autobiographical entries by notable figures in the field (such as Beverly Cleary) and topic-related lists of recommended titles. This book will be useful for parents, teachers, librarians, and anyone interested in the art of creating books for children. Take it home, flip to random pages, and start making a list of all the great books you're going to read! From classics to pop-up books, this reference covers them all.

Belina Stood at the Edge of a Precipice...
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-21
For 1000 years, the people of Rheudauhism lived in a state of peaceful fragility. They tried to live in a world without magic and without the guidance of the Creator. The citizens of Rheudaushim are afraid to embrace the awesome omnipotence of the Creator. They believe that if they open links to the Creator, they will unleash the Destroyer. And, as a result, their world will plunge into darkness once again.

Belina wanted to have a life filled with children and grandchildren and to live in blissful anonymity. But this was far from the life that the Creator had chosen for her. Belina's destiny was much more momentous and dangerous than she would ever have expected.

From a young age, Belina had prophetic dreams. She could manipulate the elements and harness the power of the Creator. However, Belina must keep her abilities a secret from everyone, apart from her mother. This is because she knows that if anyone finds out what she can do, she will be put on trial for her life. But fate, as well as the malevolent hordes that surround her, force Belina to act. She must face the Destroyer and save those whom she loves. She must battle forces that are all-powerful and all-consuming. If she fails, the world will be filled with torment and suffering once more. And no one will escape the wrath of the Destroyer...

Most fantasy fiction writers these days are Tolkien "wannabes." They fill their novels with labyrinthine plots and a muddle of complicated gimmicks. All I can say to these writers is that there is only one Tolkien! Don't try and copy him, as more often than not, you will fail. This is what is so refreshing about Creator Born. Shirley Hiter has written a fantasy tale that is both original and zestful. The world that Hiter creates is one filled with rip-roaring adventure and intriguing mysticism. Her characters are well rounded and passionate. And, her story is heart-warming, humourous, and simply stated.

If I had one tiny criticism, it would be that the book ends too abruptly. But I cannot get too upset about that. It is trick that most authors use, to get the reader excited about the next book. If the first book in this series is anything to go by, Book Two promises to be one filled with apocalyptic battles and glimpses of Machiavellian intrigue.

In short, Creator Born is an exuberant piece of fiction that will keep you turning the pages until the very end.

As the battle between good and evil rages, only Belina can stop the dark forces of the Destroyer. However, the Destroyer is not all she has to fear. Ignorant superstition and those closest to her may hinder Belina in her task. Will Belina succeed against all odds, or will she fall at the final hurdle? Buy the book and find out!
