This book was pretty good, with the story advancing along well.

Basically, Ichigo has to find a way to hide her secret from Masaya, but he keeps showing up in places that she needs to transform! The girls all go on a cruise where more aliens show up and send out 'kirema animas' but they stop them. Ichigo turns into a cat when Masaya is around, and he takes her home. But the cliffhanger endings make me sad!! :(

The artwork was cute, just like before! If you have read the series so far, I recommend continuing. However, a warning to newcomers. The storyline is very confusing for people who haven't read the first 2 books, so I recommend reading them first.

This is about five girls. They are: Ichigo Momomiya (part cat), Mint Aizawa (part bird), Lettuce Midoriwawa (part porpoise), Pudding Fong (part monkey), and Zakuro Fujiwara (part wolf).
I noticed a big mistake on the page that introduces all the characters. Pudding and Zakuro's pictures are mixed up. It says Zakuro Fujiwara under Pudding's picture and Pudding Fong under Zakuro's picture. So it also says Pudding's name is Zakuro and she is "a cool and beautiful model." That is, obviously, not right. Pudding is not a model and she isn't really that pretty. In this book Lettuce gets a mermaid-like tail with the Mew Aqua when she jumps in the ocean to save a baby.

I loved this book! It was another cliffhanger though:( Ichigo turns into a little cat and gets taken home by Masaya! She runs out of his house while he sleeps and some fat alley cat tries to kiss her but she gets saved by another cat, Alto, but then he kisses her! But he did it to turn her human again. A lot more happens in this story but to find out what or how Alto knows Ichigo's secret you have to read this book!!!!

Best volume yet! I have only read up to three though! It is so cute when ichigo turnss into a cat. At the end something shocking happens (not gonna tell!) and there is some rivalry over the love of ichigo. two more aliens get introduced. A little confusing at the beginning though. What do you think is cuter, masaya and ichigo or ryou and ichigo? (...)

It was in very good condition, came in a quick amount of time and Was very cheap about half off the retail price, while in the same condition you would find it, in any book store. I was very pleased with the order and if the seller has anything else in future, I would buy from him and suggest to others to buy from this seller.

BESM (Besm): How do I put this? This book is anything every GM, DM, Storyteller, or player could hope for. This book makes any storyline possible, any ability ever imagined can be done, this book is as limitless as the genre its about. Keep in mind this comes at a minor price. This is really not a beginners book into role-playing. Although it does give you a grasp of role playing if you are not used to complicated rolling procedures it shouldnt be used as a game book. If that is the case, it still makes a great resource book for comming up with stories. If you wish to put the time into it to make it your primary book it can be most worth it.

Big Eyes Small Mouth has gotten even better.

For those who enjoyed the tweaks made to the 2nd edition, these words may be hard to believe, but trust me, it's true. With the newest edition of their anime-inspired role-playing game system, Mark C. MacKinnon and David Pulver have created what is at once both an incredibly streamlined, simple, and fun game, and also a deeply complex, customizable, and rich gaming experience.

First, the TriStat system, what the original BESM was built on (using the three stats of Body, Mind, and Soul to build a character and make rolls) has been changed to a roll-high rather than roll-low system. Instead of trying to roll under a number, you're now trying roll above it, making the game more intuitive and accessable for afficionados of other games like D&D and GURPS. Most everything else will be similar however. You still get a set number of points with which to buy your stats, collect Attributes and Skills (which have now been more integrated, nixing the need to load up on 6 levels of Highly Skilled in order to have a competent character), and get bonus points with Defects.

The changes made to these standbys are mostly "more of everything." You start out with more points than ever before, so most things cost more. However, you also have a broader spectrum of powerful attributes from which to choose, with effects that you can either customize (creating anything from a powerful magic artifact to a highly-evolved AI in your spy gear) or can leave completely alone if you don't want to fuss with the rules. Constant notes (titled "Keep it Simple") are made throughout the book of ways to streamline the experience to make it less complicated, even allowing for near-diceless playing (by "taking 6" instead of actually rolling).

Combat has been expanded as well, with more Armour options (including expanded Shield mechanics for defense), more information on performing wild stunts (in or out of vehicles), and several tactical options like going all defensive (to gain a bonus by not attacking) or holding your action until triggered by your enemy (allowing you break their stride during an attack). Many elements that used to be seperated are now combined to allow for less confusion (Kensei and Gun Bunny are now all "Combat Techniques," so you Munchkins don't have to spend twice the points to be able to wield both two swords AND two guns), and features like "Targeted" abilities allow you to gain bonuses when facing certain foes with certain weapons.

Magic has also recived an overhaul, with powers being divided into Dynamic Powers or bought individually as abilites (Flight, Mind Control, etc.), or even created using customizable attributes with enhancements, defects, and even some spell and spellcaster templates (Want a targeted beam of holy destruction to smite your enemies? You got it, and if you don't like the example in the book, make up your own).

Additionally, there are more options than ever for items, character classes and races (more than 40 templates are provided for classes and races in 3rd Edition like Half-Orcs, cat-girl Nekojin, Mercenaries, Students, and Demon Hunters), and, most importantly, setting.

Skills now have even more genre options (new examples include Historical: Steampunk, Modern Day: Superhero, and Historical: Ancient Greece/Rome) leading to even more options for customizing the setting of your game. In addition, BESM now has an official setting - the Anime Multiverse, seven interconnected worlds linked by the Cosmic Web and joined by World Gates. Earth is joined by the demon world Bazaroth, the high-fantasy Ikaris, the space-operatic Cathedral, and several others. You could start as a highschool studen on earth and end up as a space pirate rebelling against the Galatic Trade Authority in the Interstellar Diaspora.

Game Masters and players can either absorb all of this information for vast and almost-endlessly complex world-hopping adventures using loosely-canonized plot elements, or can just roll up a few basic characters for a simple game, or literally anything in-between. With BESM 3e, the creators have literally placed all of the power to create as complex or as simple a game in your hands, all using the same intuitive and easy-to learn mechanics and loveable style that made BESM a hit years ago.

So what are you waiting for? There's whole worlds out there to discover.

Positively Love it!

What can I say Big Eyes, Small mouth was like a gift from the gods. I was over at my brothers place for a weekend and he told me about this game. At that moment I made it my quest to get this book. You see I am a huge Otaku (Anime Fan). Well a roleplaying game that you get to roleplay an anime character well how could I not want to get it. I am also a very big person in RPGs as well I have been role playing for 12 years. Played Vampire, D&D 2ed & 3rd, Kindred of the east, Chtulhu, and others not going to name them all. But this RPG I now love more then all the others. The types of Genres and settings are limitless and the only limit you have is your own imagination. You can play anything from Big giant Mecha battles like you see in Robotech, Macross, and VOLTRON!! All the way to your supernatural horrors to even your fantasy worlds like D&D you could even have a game like Vampire. The Characters aren't limited to Races or classes like most games are. Its a very wonderful game. I recommend anyone who is creative and who loves anime to purchase this book. I even have people who hate anime interested in this game and they enjoy playing it. So buy a copy of this book you won't be disappointed.

When I first saw the cover of Genshiken, I didn't know what to expect. I assumed that it would be another male-oriented manga where the main male character would fall for a girl who fit neatly into one of the manga stereotypes while everything revolves around fanservice & typical cliches. Boy was I wrong!

Genshiken surrounds a whole cast of characters, most specifically that of Sasuke, a freshman in a local college. He decides that he's finally going to join a group devoted to anime, manga, or both. He almost loses his nerve until he discovers Genshiken and becomes immersed in everything otaku. Along for the ride are a lovable cast of characters that are all distinct and never cliche. Everyone has a set personality that the reader can relate to, and the storylines are actually true to life. There's no magic moves, no love triangles (not really, anyway), and no transforming... even though the characters would probably love it if it actually happened. For the most part everyone's a realtively well adjusted person.

Would I recommend this series? Yes, but some may not get all of the jokes. Luckily Del Ray is faithful about putting explanations in the back of the manga. Fledglings will need them, but die-hard otaku probably won't. ^.^'

There are no flying robots, fiery dragons, or space aliens in this one, rather Genshiken is about a select group of boring people with boring stories to tell. So why five stars? It is only that these boring stories are brought to us in the most kind and personable way, like a meal of white bread, served on a silver platter by the quirkiest waitress you ever did see. In the end, it was a fabulous dinner. Genshiken uses slight humor, slight romance, and a lot of good art. Highly recommended!

This is the funniest thing I think I've ever read!
There's no cheesy sci-fi/fantasy stuff or day dreaming girls trying to get married. The situations are realistic, which makes them even funnier. If you've every dated a super dorky guy or find that you're spending your free time watching anime (almost exclusively), you'll really enjoy this manga.

I seriously don't understand why more of you haven't read this book. It features one of the best and most memorable cast of characters in a manga that I have ever read. If you yourself are an otaku, this manga has at least one character you will find yourself saying,"Hey! Thats me!"

We start with a student, Kanji Sasahara, who is a shy young otaku, off at college. While searching through potential clubs to join, he finds the Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture, aka, Genshiken. It takes some prodding from a member of the club, but he eventually joins this club after feeling a sort of bond with the other members.

Through out this manga, we are introduced to several different characters, Tanaka, a cosplayer. Madarame, a military sort of otaku, Kousaka, definately doesn't fit the traditional "look," of an otaku, but his interests are in the right place. Finally, his girlfriend, Saki, who absolutely hates his okatu-ism, but you see her becoming more and more sympathetic towards it as time goes by.

All in all, I would have to say this is one of the best purchases I have made, and I eagerly antcipate the fourth volume.

Genshiken is a little piece of everything.

Kanji Sasahara decides to join Genshiken, which is a club that deals with anima, manga, cosplay and video games. It happens to be his long standing dream to join a otaku club.
Saki Kasukabe's long standing dream is to get her boyfriend to act normal. But he joins the same club also.
Saki now has to chase Makoto around, from various activities to comic conventions, from video gaming to collecting figures.
I have volumes one to three and plan to collect any more that come out. There is tons of humor, but also lots of serious themes about art, relationships, S&M, porn, and what a otaku really is. Very much only for adults. Frankly, Age 16 seems too low a rating to me. Bonus material in each book.

I've never been fond of Chris Hart's books. The illustrations tend to be overtly generic with very little detail in my eyes, so I tend to push them to the side when I'm scanning the local bookstores for new art books and How to Draw tutorials. However, when this one came out, the cover caught me by surprise. THIS was Hart's work?

Well, in truth, it wasn't. Hart only did maybe five to six pages of drawings while the rest were done by a legion of other artists. Artists who I believe have a much stronger grasp of composition and balance than Hart does. (If I remember correctly, it was Nao Yazawa who created the most breath-taking images.) For those who grew up watching Sailor Moon as a kid, the nostalgia will hit you like a train, but in a good way. Everything about this book was pure classic.

The instruction is mostly visual, as in while there is text I certainly didn't need to read it. It's easy to pick up and easy to practice the techniques the artists are trying to teach. I highly recommend this book, as it is one of the few non-Japanese books where the drawings truly feel authentic.

I am a big fan of Christopher Hart and his work. His books are the best manga tutorial books I have come across.
This one is no exception. The drawing are gorgeous, the instruction is easy to understand for beginners and is still useful for advanced manga artists who want to learn new techniques.
It has everything from cute chibis to the transformation of a regular girl to a magical girl. (step by step instruction)
My favorite is the cute little mascots which are also transformed into magical mascots.
This is worth every penny!

Hm... I happen to LOVE this book. I own it. Bought it at a different website (animenation.com) with a different cover, but it's the same pictures... And the pictures are great! There were quite a few I hadn't seen before (example 1: the one of Treize and Une's head from the side. example 2: one with both Milliardo and Zechs (Milliardo with his mask on) from the side and a full shot of Noin from the front). The whole thing is layed out very nicely. I give it... *drumroll* Ten out of ten thumbs up! Eh... Right. Anyway...

For all those die-hard Gundam fans who were disappointed with the three-volume manga, this will more than make up for it.

Like the title says, this book displays a collection of pictures -- original ones or screenshots from the anime -- that is, simply, the art of "Gundam Wing." The book does a good job of fairly balancing the pictures of the five pilots as well as other important characters. For those who surf the web a great deal, many of these pictures will be recognized immediately. And many people might also notice that the pictures are a lot crisper, clearer, and cleaner than some found on fansites, which is alone worth the price of the book.

However, there is also a good deal of pictures that have most likely not been found on the internet (although they probably will be soon because of people with scanners and a lot of free time). These pictures heighten the worth of the book, and the fact that they were drawn by the artists who worked on the anime makes it all the more satisfying. After all, where do the original artists take the time to add more of their talent to a collection of already-beautiful artwork?

All in all, there was only once complaint I had, and that was that the book was a little short. The book is only about 96 pages of art, with a brief interview with the artists. Despite this setback, the book is definately a must-have for anyone who's ever enjoyed the artwork and wants to gloss over it for days on end. Try and say something like that about "Pokemon"!

Very helpful and useful it should have ten stars. Cool as it gets the person who made this book worked for Studio Ghibli!

I must say, I really enjoyed this book. I love how the book displays the body in different views and in different positions. This is especially useful when you can't draw a character from a certain sitting position. For those who are a little concerned about nudity, don't worry. There is some nudity, but it's mostly the guys. I really wouldn't call it nudity though, since they do not draw the nipples on the females at all. It's merely a silhouette of the naked form. Other than that, this book is a must have. It really shows daily activities (like the book suggests)it also has some activities like karaoke. I wouldn't call that a daily activity, but that pose can come in handy if one wishes to draw a karaoke scene in their manga.

The third book in the series picks up right after the last with perspective. The first chapter is dedicated to it, and provides many great tips. It then moves on to basic character movements such as walking, running, sitting, sleeping, and much more. From there it even goes into greater detail by showing you variations of the previously mentioned movements, and a lot of them. After all, no two people are made the same. This is a great book for any artist period who wants to learn the different poses of the body.

Ozawa does a wonderful job again! He inititally starts the book on drawing your character using perspective giving a numerous amount of pointers and examples. Then giving basic action poses (walking, running, sitting, standing, laying down, etc) and going into variations of those actions by using multiple examples of characters. A typical example page consists of a stick figure in a particular pose, a block figure, and the actual finished character in the same pose. Front and back, or other view of the pose is common and he even gives pointers and tips of details to look out for.

Besides teaching you how to draw real believable characters, this book is an excellent edition that you may later use as a reference book for poses. Like his earlier books, Ozawa covers nudity tastefully and this book can be used by young artists without fear. A book well worth the money, imo.

Which first volume of the manga should I get? I see this one, "Oh My Goddess: Wrong Number", but I also see "Oh My Goddess tome 1", and "Oh My Goddess Volume 1". Is there a difference between them all? And if there is, which is the best one to get?

I'd heard of this before, but I didn't know any details. Keiichi Morisato dials a wrong number and ends up magically bound to the goddess Belldandy. The art in this book is lovely, and many of the stories are hilarious. Belldandy is probably the nicest person/celestial being I've ever seen in a comic, and the way people reacted to her was really funny. I can't wait to get my hands on more "Oh My Goddess" books.

A Great visual novel. Belldandy is a delight!

Reading this visual novel by Kosuke Fujishima was a treat, indeed! Consider its beginning: Keiichi Morisato, a loser student phones for a pizza, but gets the goddess help line instead and is offered a single wish. His choice: for a goddess to stay with him always! He thus is paired with the goddess Belldandy, and experiences a series of hilarious misadventures beginning with their being kicked out of his dorm room. However, this allowed him to leave the company of his loutish housemates in preference for the company of a real goddess.

Belldandy and Keiichi encounter some surprising characters: an otaku (obsessive anime fan), a priest with an unusual mastery, a feckless, forlorn lover, a queen bee of a university scene, and the manipulative little sister! These episodes set the stage for explaining circumstances that were unclear in previously-published works. We find out more about our two main characters, including the abilities of Belldandy.

The motif of a girl or woman with preternatural or magical capacities is found in other Japanese manga works, notably the equally delightful Lum Urusei Yatsura. But Belldandy is unfailingly pleasant and serene: a true goddess in her patience with Keiichi and with the sometimes difficult ways of humans. This provides an effective device for critiquing the ways of humanity and for exploring philosophical questions.

While Fujishima did change his style in later episodes, I found that his style in these early stories was also engaging. Belldandy is beautiful, and sweet. The artwork is interesting and dynamic: worth the price of the book in itself. I recommend this book 100% and suspect that it might serve to lift up the spirits of someone who is having a bad day. It does for me!

If you have seen the 5 episode OAV series, then you will love this. As it starts of, Keichi Morisato is a college student who doesn't really have any luck with women, until one day he calls a beautiful goddess of the name Belldandy. She says she can grant him anything he desires and Keichi of course, thinks this is a joke by his mates wishes that a girl like her would be with him forever. Their life from then on continues through the series.

As you know, this is contains previous material from 1-555-GODDESS but also contains the lost stories which will answer many a question you might have.If you see this book for the first time and see it isn't as great as it looks on the OAV series, Dont Worry! Because at this time, Fujishima was just getting use to drawing the characters and throughout the series gets to look better and better.

If you are wondering if you should get this or not, the answer is obviously yes! The humour in this book is funny as but if you already own 1-555-GODDESS and are a bit worried if you should waste your money on this, you're not. Because 7 of the 8 chapters are lost and new.

1st Chapter: Wrong number
2nd Chapter: Into the lair of the Anime Otaki
3rd Chapter: A man's home is his....temple?
4th Chapter: College exchange Goddess
5th Chapter: Those whom goddess has jointed together, let not woman put asunder
6th Chapter: SLP Camera- Mission Accomplished!
7th Chapter: The lullaby of love
8th Chapter: The Megumi Problem

I Recommend this book for manga collectors, OMG! Fans and all newbies!

I saw the 5-part OAV (original animation video) "Oh My Goddess" DVD's and was very impressed. However, because the series was so short, I went online to see if there was a manga (Japanese comic book) series since most anime is from manga.

Enter "Wrong Number" done by Dark Horse Comics. This should replace the "555-Goddess" book previously done since this contains the chapters that were not included in that original book 1. People who've watched the OAV's will see the major elements from the first and second videos done in this book. However, there are notable differences such as a monk that lived in the temple that Belldandy and Keiichi end up living in. We are introduced to the following characters:

Keiichi (the guy with the wish), Belldandy (the goddess), Tamiya (large classmate), Aoyama (cool classmate), Sayoko (the girl jealous of Belldandy), and Megumi (Keiichi's sister).

One thing people who've seen the OAV will be surprised at is the art. Belldandy doesn't look like she does in the OAV. Much like many other comic strips or comic books, Fujuishima-san had not yet refined the artwork. Don't worry, the artwork gets better with each volume.

Story-wise, this volume mainly focuses on Keiichi and Belldandy getting to know each other and their life at college.

Bottom line: If you loved the "Oh My Goddess" DVD set, you will REALLY enjoy this manga and all of the manga's in this series. If you've never seen the OAV's but want wholesome, light reading material, get this book!

The thing is, the regular Tenchi Muyo manga continues from the origonal O.A.V. series. The movies continue from the T.V. series
"Tenchi Universe". The T.V. series and the O.A.V. series tell two different versions of the Tenchi Muyo story, as certain story aspects contradict each other. You'll notice that in the movie story "Tenchi In Love", Kiyone lives on Earth with the rest. She never came down to Earth in the origonal series, which is why she doesn't appear in the other manga stories, so you have to keep in mind "Tenchi In Love" does NOT take place in the same continueity as the rest of the manga.

Otherwise, this is another great addition to the Tenchi Muyo saga. We get some funny stories about the alien girls learning how to deal with tellemarketers, a newscrew coming to film at the Masaki residence, and a Galaxy Police inspector coming down to check on Mihoshi's progress. (Guess how THAT goes.) The movie is a great read also, just keep in mind that again, it has to be divorced from the rest of the stories.

Tenchi fans need this book.

Even if you have seen the first Tenchi movie a billion times, do not pass up this manga. The plot of the movie story is different enough to interest even those like me who basically memorized the first movie. And the other stories are cute! I love when Ayeka and Ryoko cause an accident. "Stop waving his arm around!"
*grins* Tenchi takes the girls back to school--specifically, phone school. Then, we have to watch Mihoshi suffer through an inspection by another Galaxy Police officer. And when a tv crew comes to explore the Masaki house, they get a whole lot more than they bargained for!

The first Tenchi movie meets manga!

I adored the Tenchi Muyo In Love movie, and this is the official adaptation of it. But it is not exactly like the film, so don't turn your nose up at this just because you're seen the movie. And the other stories are wonderful too. Phone school, Tenchi's love connection, Mihoshi's Galaxy Police examination, a story about the Masaki house--it's all here! Go on, take a look--you know you want to!

A Quality Tenchi Item!

If your any type of Tenchi fan, from a small one to an all out fanatic, make sure to get this! While the big draw of this is the Tenchi in Love movie on print (which has been faithfully transported, its almost like watching the movie!), there are also a few other extra stories to read! You should buy the book just for the movie, the extra stories are icing on the cake. The only way I could see you not buying the book is if you don't want to ruin the movie. But otherwise, you must buy this! You will not be disappointed.

No need for laughs!

This book reaches the standard attained by all the other books by Hitoshi Okuda. It contains the official adaptation of the Tenchi in Love movie and 4 other original stories. In one, an odd headband designed by Washu makes Tenchi more amorous than usual. Another story has Tenchi teaching all the girls in the Masaki household proper phone etiquette when dealing with prank phone calls, solicitors, and wrong numbers. In the third story, a camera crew videotapes the Masaki household for a TV show about houses, but then finds a whole lot more than a beautiful house. The fourth story is about Mihoshi's adventures when her old instructor from the Galactic Police tries to bring her back to GP headquarters. Finally, the book ends with the story of Tenchi and company having to travel back in time to prevent the evil KAIN from eradicating Tenchi's mother, Achika. Truly a book worth owning

Naraku has tricked the demon killer Sango into thinking that Inuyasha slaughtered her whole village and has even given her a Shikon shard to keep her battered and dying body alive long enough to satiate her revenge! Inuyasha and pals ARE at the demon hunter village, but not for the reason Naraku lied about. They have come seeking out the origin of the Sacred Jewel. They will find out the true story of its creation IF they can convince Sango that they're the good guys and girl of this story, and that Naraku is her family's and village's true killer!

What can I say about Inuyasha that I haven't said already? Tons! I came to the manga after watching all the anime episodes of Inuyasha up to its current releases, so going back to the beginning of the story is like rereading old history, but it's cool. It still galls me the extent to which Naraku has ruined so many people's lives, and really in the end, he's doing this all out of love for Kikyo! Spurned or impossible love makes for dangerous motivations. I think that's a stroke of Takahashi's genius, that one of the most evil villains in manga operates out of love. Another thing I think about after reading Volume 10 are the great characters. Takahashi has made them all likeable and complex with their own motivations and goals. If just one of these main characters was annoying or difficult to like, it would've ruined the whole series. With Sango, we've finally completed the assemblage of heroes that has killing Naraku as their main goal. Let the hunt begin!

...she also has a major grudge. Naraku has tricked her into believing that it was Inu Yasha that murdered her village, and she is out for revenge. Using her incredibly big boomerang (it's taller than she is!), she attempts to slay the innocent dog demon. But when wounded, she is cared for by her prey. Of course, when she finds out Naraku's plans, she is none too happy. After telling the group a story, she joins up with them.

Things will definitely get more interesting from here on out...

KONICHI WA ANIME FANS! And those of you who aren't, Konichi Wa anyways! I LOVE this book (I love almost any anime...but that's besides the point). This book is probably the 2nd best in the Inu Yasha books that have come out. It's great because Lord Inu Yasha and the gang are joined by Sango. Miroku's thrilled about that, as well...BUT let's not get into that, hm? ANYways, Kagome rocks (as always) and Sango is soooo cute! There's a lot of action in this one (not half as much as some of them...but oh well). I suggest you read this because it's a mix of adventure, comedy, and a lil romance (none for Miroku, unfortunately for him, but let's not get into that...ANYways...) So, it starts off where they left off. Sango going to get her revenge on Inu Yasha. Afterwards, They meet up w/ the Water God, who's a big meanie in my opinion. SAYONARA! P.S. Read other books by Rumiko Takahashi!

While I may be older than the target audience for this series, I honestly enjoyed the book just as I did the first. A quick, entertaining and engaging read. If you like anime, if you like fantasy worlds, then this series of novels from Fuyumi Ono could probably be for you.

Being a fan of the anime also called the twelve kingdoms I wanted to know more about this world. I have found the first two books to be a great read. Sea of the Wind follows Taiki, the black kirin. This book is close to the anime. Or should I say that the anime has closely followed the book in this volume. This book has deepend my understanding of what occured at this point in the story. If your a fan of the twelve kingdoms, or in ulternate worlds with fantasy origins than this book is for you.

So enjoyable

After waiting for a year, finally I have this novel.
Such a cute story. It is much more relax than the first book about our empress of Kei, Youko. May be it is because of the innocent of Taiki.
The translation are really good, but I do not like the translation for some specific terms of Twelve kingdoms cause they do not give the original meaning.
There are few funny scenes that its anime cannot make it look funny, and of course, the novel is different to its anime. However, this difference does not make it bad at all. We do not need to have Youka telling us Taiki's feeling, we still can understand them very clearly through the story.
For 12 kingdoms fan, it is a must.

When's the next volume coming out??? I want it already!!!

This is the second volume of the Twelve Kingdoms novel and a lot more action is going on than in the first book. I whole-heartedly agree with the Publisher's Weekly quote on the back of the book : "For those who enjoy getting lost in multi-layered adventures, this epic offers dense and challenging escapism." The summary on the back of the book gives you the gist of the story: "the second volume in this seven-volume fantasy epic, explores what it means to truly know yourself in the face of a destiny outside of your control."

To start off, I highly recommend watching the anime (Japanese animation) first. Perhaps that's because I watched the anime first myself, but I feel that it gives a better understanding of the background of the story. I think that because I believe that all the unique terms the author uses in this book can become quite confusing and/or frustrating, and being familiar with the anime already makes it easier to follow the book.

For those who haven't watched the anime, this is about a boy who has a dishearterning home life, where he can't do anything right. His grandmother criticizes him constantly, his brother uses him to blame things on, his mother is always crying after defending him from grandma, and his dad always shows disappointment in him. One day, out of the blue, he gets whisked away to another world, where things are totally different. He is revered and loved, but trusted with amazing responsibilities. He slowly learns that he needs to trust his instincts and not worry so much about disappointing others. There is a lot of fantasy incorporated into this book, and it's just fascinating to read about the different rituals, traditions, beliefs, animals - just a completely different reality - that the boy comes across. The author has a background in Buddhist studies, by the way. I found myself very absorbed in this book while reading it. People would talk to me while I was reading and I wouldn't hear them! I think that's the sign of a good book, don't you?

For those who have watched the anime, this book goes into much detail about how Taiki is lost and found by Sansi and his life after he returns to the world of the Twelve Kingdoms. It also goes into greater detail about how he chose his king, which I definitely appreciated, as it was cut short in the anime and I was confused as to what was really going on. This cleared it up for me. The only problem is that the story stops very soon after the new king of Tai ascends to the throne. I can't wait to read more! And this volume was much shorter than the first. It was disappointing to finish it so quickly.

Another great installment of the fantasy series!

I became a huge fan of Twelve Kingdoms through the anime first. When I discovered that Tokyopop was translating the novels, I was elated because the anime covered less than half of the storyline from the novels. My only regret about this book is that I had to wait a year for it to be released since the release of the first novel.

Sea of Wind follows Taiki's story which was the second arc of the anime. The anime followed it very very closely with only minor changes and omissions. While the novel does not require the reader to have seen the anime, I think seeing the anime should encourage the viewer to get a more indepth look at the Twelve Kingdoms universe and read the novels.

What you do get in this novel is a better understanding of Taiki's thoughts as well as what makes him a unique kirin. Also, you get the perspective of other characters such as Sansi. Also the system and ways of the world of the twelve kingdoms are even further fleshed out. Taiki's time with Keiki is also further explored. The only people you will miss in this version of Taiki's story are Yoko and Kenro Shinkun, who really only served as bystanders in the anime anyhow.

The novel is quite vividly written and I daresay flows better than the first novel. Twelve Kingdoms is a great series to read for people interested in politics, fantasy, and just really good characterization. I cannot recommend it enough.
