It's got some information, but nothing I really didn't know. It's full of pictures, and not necessarily help for creating characters. I think I was looking for something that wasn't intended to be in here, as it is clearly a book on Anime and Manga mechanics.

Hay this book has a lot of info. But if you just watch the show at 8/7 central than you dont need this book. Its pretty easy to get this info. then again there isnt a lot of stuff about this show that I dont know. . . I would give this book a 2 out of five. Some info is very handy if you are young and cant figure it out on the show or in the manga books. There is a novel on this but they havnt gotten to it yet. Its also fun to read if you never care to watch or read the other stuff about it because its got a fanticy going on.

Metamorpho, you deserved better

Was there a reason for making this? That question unfortunately is asked quite often when another Year One story is released, considering their inconsistent and unfulfilled track record. Most just rehash old facts and figures or possibly tweak minor or irrelevant aspects just for the sake of change without accomplishing their purported goal, illustrating and highlighting the character's original intrinsic appeal or improving or enhancing on it. The main rationale for Y1s is to spotlight a lesser known character for a new generation of fans, and in the process, increase their chances of playing a more significant role in their comic's universe. For many, this may be their one and only or more importantly last shot, so the pressure is on. What is required is an interesting story that would be better served by focusing on one strong and gripping premise instead of the usual trite approach of a whirlwind "This is your life" journey that ends up reading more like a diary than a complete, cohesive, and compelling adventure. Unfortunately it is the latter and not the former that is the regrettable result here, and a possible last opportunity to let this unique and intriguing character shine is lost. Although a long shot to begin with, if written well, Metamorpho could be the focal point for his own tales, but there's the rub. Regarding the writing, this is a prime example of the axiom of having creators stick with their strengths, and in the case of Dan Jurgens, it is his artwork. The writing contained here is plainly and painfully lacking, replete with stereotypical villains too ridiculous for a bad B movie accompanied by simplistic and clichéd dialogue. The final result makes one question the importance placed on this project considering the apparent minimal level of creative effort put into it. Metamorpho, you deserved better, and for now, we will just have to enjoy him in Batman and the Outsiders. Dan, with all due respects, please go back to the drawing board, literally.

Not really worth the cost if you've seen the anime. The book is full color, but the screencaptures used seem to be of a poor quality, occasionally being grainy or fuzzy, and really take away from the reading experience. Goes through the first six anime episodes. A very limited use of any sound effect descriptors, and a lot of poor choices for images when used with the speech bubbles; which incidentally seem to pop out of the page and make it harder to read. Anyone who was new to this particular series would probably have a hard time following the plot simply from the book itself.

Boo! Just screen captures of the Anime series!

Beware!

As I said above this is just screen captures of the anime series! Not the original manga by ABe (which is only a few pages long believe it or not.)

The anime series, 5 stars all the way! Darkhorse and Geneon 1 star just to be polite!!!

Skip this if you have seen or own the anime, you WILL be upset to say the least .....

A disaster of post-modern mumbo-jumbo

There is barely an intelligible sentence in this book. The author has little knowlege of the tropes or history of Japanese animation, and knowing this, abuses most of the five syllable words in the OED in a feeble attempt to snow the reader with false erudition.

It is impossible to imagine that this book passed even the most rudimentary editorial reviewing process.

The small number of illustrations presented in the book are of uniformly poor quality. The names of characters are fluffed in a number of places.

There is simply no excuse for the existence of this book.

This comic book was not all that I expected, therefore; I ended up giving it to a close friend of mines. However; I'm not sure if he enjoyed it, I don't think he did because he hasn't said a word and we talk about everything, just about.

On the Kindle, this is unreadable

I'm reviewing the Kindle edition of this work.

If a sample had been available, I could have saved myself the cost of the book.

I got this book for the Kindle. I was interested in how a graphic novel would adapt to the Kindle. I could easily imagine someone producing a graphic novel which would work well on the Kindle. Strong lines, limited use of shading, large text, perhaps even a repeat of the text on the pages between the images in standard text so that it could be read - or searched, or even clipped.

This graphic novel has none of those things.

What it has is tiny text (I think it is text, I can't see it, sort of vaguely looks like tezt) and I can't judge whether or not it is relevant to the story, because I can't read it.

This is a classic misuse of the Kindle. There should be some quality control, not for content, but for whether stuff like this is even appropriate for the media, because the Kindle will get a bad name when content that is inappropriate (impossible to see) to the device is sold by Amazon.
